Abstract: A method of transmission over a packet based network including providing data packets to be transmitted on the packet based network during a predetermined time interval and arranging the provided data packets in a transmission block according to desired transmission times of the data packets, such that one or more gaps remain between at least some of the data packets. The method further includes adding padding bytes to the transmission block in a manner which substantially fills the one or more gaps and providing the block for transmission on the packet based network.
Abstract: A method for inducing motion in solid particulates in a solid/liquid mixture located in proximity to the periphery of a wellbore or in the formation zone adjacent to a wellbore in an oil or gas formation. The method includes introducing a gas impulse device into the wellbore. It then requires firing the gas impulse device so as to generate impulses of high pressure compressed gas, thereby to produce pressure waves within the wellbore and its surrounding formation. This causes motion of the solid particulates which permits settling and/or redistribution of the solid particulates. In some cases it even causes particulate flow, as in cold heavy oil production with sand (CHOPS). The method also frees blockages caused by the solid particulates and stimulates productivity. The method may inter alia be used in gravel pack construction and maintenance, well cementing operations and in CHOPS stimulation.

Abstract: A single piece, plastic shim simplifies the process of shimming a fixture (such as a door) within a frame. The operation of the shim requires only that one piece of the shim be pulled so that the shim folds in on itself, filling the space between the frame and the fixture. Only a small portion of the shim extends beyond the frame, and needs to be cut. This arrangement avoids stress to the shim and the frame.
Abstract: A method of operating a processor pool having a given maximal processing power, in handling mobile data connections. The method includes connecting a plurality of mobile data connections, which may require up to a total peak processing power which is substantially greater than the given maximal processing power of the processor pool, to the processor pool, and processing data transmitted on at least one of the connected data connections, by the processor pool.
Abstract: A combination of a bellows structure (12), volume restrictor, and pressure restrictor for use on a hand-operated resuscitator is provided to enable delivery of ventilation within specific volume and pressure limitations specified by the operator. The bellows structure (12) consistently provides predictable and uniform generation of gas flow for ventilation without regard to one or two-handed technique, hand placement, or hand size. The volume restrictor, primarily comprising of an inflow obturator (20), outflow obturator (22), and placement cam (34), enables the physician to specify a specific tidal volume to be delivered, which constitutes a volume-controlled cycling capability of the invention. The pressure restrictor, primarily comprising of an outer housing (40), stopper housings (41), and a stopper (50), enables the physician to specify a specific maximum airway pressure to be exposed to the patient, which constitutes a pressure-controlled cycling capability of the invention.
Abstract: A system and a method of operating that system are used to quickly adjust the temperature of an electric stove-heating element, such as those used with a flat-top cooking surface. A heat transfer or moderating fluid is pumped into a cooking unit containing an electric heating element. The moderating fluid is heated or cooled to an appropriate temperature, and inserted into the cooking unit under the control of a microprocessor to more quickly modify the temperature of the cooking unit. The system allows rapid temperature changes in normally sluggish electric heating elements. Also, accurate temperature adjustment is permitted through the use of microprocessor control.
