Abstract: A method for the rapid esterification of dicarboxylic acids or the transesterification of lower alkyl carboxylic acid diesters with diols is disclosed. Abstract: A device for delivering an aerosol, comprising: a casing member, a valve stem, and a diaphragm. The diaphragm contains a blend of (a) 100 parts by weight of a polyolefin random copolymer of about 80 to about 95 mole percent ethylene and a total of about 5 to about 20 mole percent of 1-butene, and (b) at least 10 parts by weight of a rubber comprising a styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene block copolymer based on 100 parts by weight of polyolefin. The styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene block copolymer is substantially uniformly dispersed within the polyolefin. The blend preferably has a Shore A hardness of 65 to 85.

Abstract: Polymerizable, organic-soluble, oligomeric fluorochemical surfactant compositions having at least two pendent fluoroaliphatic groups, at least two organic-solubilizing groups, and a pendent polymerizable olefinic group. Also disclosed are fluorochemical compositions in the form of fluorochemical liquid dispersions and methods for preparing substrates treated with such compositions. Substrates so treated exhibit particularly durable and abrasion-resistant oil and water repellent properties. Intermediates in the preparation of the fluorochemical compositions are also disclosed. Some of the intermediates are useful as emulsifiers in fluorochemical liquid dispersions.

Abstract: Fluoroalkyl sulfinates were synthesized and used as a source of fluoroalkyl radicals in aqueous emulsion polymerization. The resulting polymers contained a high level of perfluoroalkyl end groups. When fluoroalkyl disulfinates were utilized, the fluoroalkyl moiety and was incorporated in the polymer backbone. These disulfinates act as monomers, yielding fluoropolymers with specific micro structural fragments, derived from the parent perfluoro disulfinate. Novel fluoropolymers can thus be prepared.
