Abstract: A method for inhibiting the precipitation under alkaline conditions of metal compounds from a solution containing them by the step of adding dimethylolpropionic acid in metal precipitation-inhibiting amounts.
Abstract: An improved process for the thermal defluorination of phosphate rock is provided. The process comprises adding ammonia to the phosphoric acid fed to the kiln, the amount of ammonia added being effective for forming a eutectic with the fused ring and ball materials and heating the mixture with agitation to defluorinating temperatures for a period of time sufficient to defluorinate the rock and recovering the defluorinated rock.

Abstract: Crystallization of trimethylolethane from supersaturated aqueous solutions is inhibited in the presence of effective amounts of crystallization inhibitors selected from methanol, isopropanol, s-butyl alcohol, t-butyl alcohol, 2-ethoxyethanol, 2-methoxyethanol, 1-methoxy-2-propanol, formic acid and 1-dimethylamino-2-propanol.
Abstract: An apparatus for separating larger foreign bodies from a granular feed including a conveyor for moving a mixture of the larger foreign bodies and the granular feed, is provided. The apparatus comprises a wheel having an axis of rotation, a circumference and a plurality of outwardly extending resilient fingers, preferably projecting at a trailing angle from the circumference. The wheel is mounted so that its plane forms an angle with respect to the direction of travel of the conveyor. The wheel is positioned so that the conveyed mixture contacts and pushes the fingers causing the wheel to rotate and the fingers to rake the larger foreign bodies from the mixture.
Abstract: An ester represented by the formula (A-B).sub.n -C-D.sub.m where A is a branched-chain aliphatic alcohol, a cyclic alcohol or a glycol monoether thereof; B is an unsaturated dibasic acid or a substance which forms an unsaturated dibasic acid when heated; C is a polyol of at least 3 hydroxyl groups; D is an unsaturated fatty acid of from 18 to 22 carbon atoms; n and m are integers of 1 or more but n+m does not exceed the number of hydroxyls present in the C- compound.
Abstract: Slurries of pentaerythritol in a liquid oil in which pentaerythritol is substantially insoluble are disclosed. The slurries can contain up to 70 percent by weight or more of solid pentaerythritol. Suitable oils include propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, vegetable oils, glycerin and tall oil fatty acid. The slurries are stable and flowable allowing for shipment in bulk.

Abstract: An improved process for the production of potassium sulfate crystals by the reaction of saturated solution of potassium chloride with langbeinite in the solid phase at a temperature of from 45.degree.-55.degree. C., thereby forming potassium sulfate crystals and magnesium chloride solution comprising the step of conducting the reaction in the presence of a growth enhancer comprising monosulfonated or monosulfated surfactant and a neutralized disulfonated surfactant in a weight ratio of from about 0.14 to 0.69.
Abstract: An otherwise unusable western sandstone uranium ore is blended with uranium-containing phosphate rock. The mixture is then digested with sulfuric acid to produce a wet process phosphoric acid solution containing higher levels of uranium. Recovery of the uranium values from this solution can be effected by various known processes such as solvent extraction.
Abstract: A nutritional mineral supplement for animal feeds comprising amorphous sulfur, potassium chloride and langbeinite when prepared by mixing same, heating the mixture to above 107.degree. C., adding amorphous sulfur with agitation and allowing the mixture to cool.

Abstract: An improved process for recovering crude oil from a geological formation containing it using a micellar solution containing as a surfactant a salt of a petroleum sulfonic acid having an equivalent weight of from about 350-500 and as a co-surfactant 2-alkenyl-4,4-substituted oxazoline.
Abstract: A continuous process for the production of a granulated fertilizer wherein comminuted phosphate rock, phosphoric acid and water are introduced into a pre-reactor where they are heated. The mixture is continuously withdrawn and transferred to a digester where heating is continued resulting in formation of a slurry. The slurry is continuously withdrawn and is split into two streams, one of which is recycled to either the pre-reactor or to the digester while the other stream is delivered to a granulator where it is mixed with other fertilizer ingredients and dried to form the granulated fertilizer.
Abstract: A binder and a hardener therefor for a foundry aggregate. The binder is a resin obtained by reacting phosphoric acid with a mineral silicate. The hardener is a linear alkali metal polyphosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, a source of polyvalent cations, potassium olivine phosphate and other metal silico-phosphates or aluminum dihydrogen phosphate or mixtures there.
Abstract: In the process for recovering petroleum having acidic components from a geological formation containing it by injecting steam in the formation, the improvement comprising conducting the steam injection in the presence of one or more water-soluble amines.
