  • Patent number: 5738072
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for actuating a control member, particularly a throttle valve in a gas conduit, such as for example an intake of an internal-combustion engine, which valve is pivotable into operating positions by means of a valve shaft, an actuator being provided, which actuator consists of a rotor body, serving as an actuator body and arranged on the valve shaft, and of an electrically energizable excitation section, which cooperates with said rotor body, and a position sensor detecting angular positions of the valve shaft, which sensor comprises an angular-position generator and an angular-position detector, which are associated with one another and of the two is mounted so as to be rotatable, the valve shaft itself being constructed to carry the angular-position generator or angular-position detector, and the associated part of the position sensor being stationarily mounted on the housing of the device.

  • Patent number: 5734539
Abstract: The system in accordance with the invention comprises a cassette (101) and an apparatus (102). The cassette (101) has a housing (110) which accommodates two reel hubs (121 and 122) and an optical tape (140). The optical tape (140) extends past a transparent optical window (118) which is accessible from one side (113a) of the cassette. The reel hubs (121 and 122) are connected to comparatively large winding wheels (131 and 132, respectively). The wheel surfaces (131a and 132a) of the winding wheels (131 and 132) are engageable with and drivable by driving surfaces (181a and 182a, respectively) of the apparatus (102) via openings (113b and 113c). The driving surfaces (181a and 182a) form parts of drive wheels (181 and 182) mounted on shafts of the electric motors (183 and 184). The apparatus (102) further comprises an optical head (172) for writing and/or reading information on/from the optical tape (140) via the optical window (118).

  • Patent number: 5722775
Abstract: A dynamic groove bearing (9, 83, 95) with an inner bearing pan (15) and an outer bearing part (17) which is rotatable about the inner bearing part (15). The bearing parts (15, 17) are provided with cooperating bearing surfaces (23, 35) between which a bearing gap (45) is present filled with a liquid lubricant (75). The bearing surface (35) of at least one of the bearing pans (17) is provided with a pattern of grooves (51, 53).The outer bearing part (17) has an annular barrier (69, 87, 99) which is raised with respect to the bearing surface (35) of the outer bearing part (17) and which bounds the bearing gap (45). The barrier (69, 87, 99) prevents leakage of the liquid lubricant (75) from the dynamic groove bearing (9, 83, 95) at comparatively high rotation speeds of the dynamic groove bearing (9, 83, 95).

  • Patent number: 5719593
Abstract: An image processing system processes background and foreground images and stores a combined image in a shared frame buffer. The images are processed such that mixing of the images and smooth transitions between the images can be achieved. The input images may be independently supplied and may have different refresh rates. The image processing system determines whether a position in a combined image is part of a predetermined background area, a predetermined foreground area or a predetermined mixing area. The mixing area includes mixing area positions, defined as positions in the combined image which correspond to a predetermined area of the corresponding foreground image. The foreground area includes foreground area positions, defined as positions in the combined image which correspond to the foreground image and which are not part of the mixing area.

  • Patent number: 5716575
Abstract: A method for outsert molding a movable plastic part on a metal plate, wherein the movability is obtained automatically through the shrinkage of the plastic. The plastic part consists of a bridge element which traverses a hole in the metal plate and is integrally connected to opposing retaining elements by a film element. The size, shape, and rigidity of the film, bridge, and retaining elements are such that the forces produced during the shrinkage process lift the retaining elements off the metal plate.

  • Patent number: 5715011
Abstract: A data slicer for data transmitted during given lines of a television signal comprises a subtractor to which the input data is applied at a first input and a slicing level is applied at a second input. The sliced data is fed to an offset generator which generates the slicing level. A transition detector controls a switch which causes the offset generator to generate either a fixed offset derived from a history of the received data amplitude or a zero offset. The arrangement is such that for teletext data a fixed offset is applied at the start of a line, zero offset is applied during the clock run in period, and a fixed offset is then used to slice the NRZ data. For biphase data such as VPS or PAL plus signalling data a zero offset is applied for the duration of the data packet.
