  • Patent number: 4340063
Abstract: A device operable to electrically stimulate living tissue, including body organs, muscles and nerves. The device can be applied to the surface of the body or implanted in the body. The device has an electrical circuit containing a pulse width control for variation of the stimulus intensity, pulse repetition rate, and on-time of the pulse to vary the pulse width. A variation in pulse width causes the stimulus variation of the stimulus intensity in a prescribed mathematical manner so as to approximately follow the curves of the strength-duration pulse stimulus amplitude versus pulse width. This provides for an optimal selection among the various classes of stimulated nerve fibers within a nerve tract or bundle. A precise adjustment of stimulation can be achieved so as to optimize sensation of pain relief.

  • Patent number: 4329105
Abstract: A top unloading silo unloader pendantly supported in a tower silo. The unloader has a material collector moved around the silo with drive structure. An impeller receives material from the collector and throws the material into an out chute which directs the material to a doorway leading to an upright passageway. The drive structure mounted on the outer end of the collector has leading and trailing drive wheels connected with movable mounts to a leveling apparatus. Power is applied to both wheels by separate drive shafts connected to the power transmission for the augers of the collector. The leveling apparatus has a base secured to the collector. Supports pivotally mounted on opposite ends of the base are attached to the mounts for the wheels. A linear actuator connected to the supports operates to concurrently pivot the supports in opposite directions so that the outer end of the collector can be raised or lowered and held in a selected position.

  • Patent number: 4322905
Abstract: A portable display unit for display of advertising material or other informational or decorative material on changeable display cards and for storage of other display cards. The display unit includes a rectangular box-like housing convertible between a collapsed or closed and portable configuration and an erect or a display configuration supported on a stand. At least one wall of the housing is comprised as a removable panel to expose a picture type frame surrounding a viewing area to be filled by the display card to be viewed. A retractable handle is provided for transport of the unit from place to place in the collapsed or closed configuration.

  • Patent number: 4316360
Abstract: The method and apparatus for controlling particulate emissions from a combustion apparatus, as a diesel engine. Diesel engine exhaust particles are electrically charged during the formation of the particles in the engine combustion chamber. A particle collector is used to collect the electrically charged particles on collecting structures connected to a high voltage power supply and ground. The collecting structures of the particle collector can be a plurality of parallel metal plates, spaced cylindrical rods, or concentrically located cylindrical members. A fibrous matrix can be located adjacent the particle collecting structure to collect the charged particles as they move through the matrix. In one embodiment, the collected particles separate from the collecting structures and return to the engine intake. In another embodiment, a removable collecting cartridge has electrically conductive plates for collecting the charged particles. The entire cartridge is removed for cleaning or replacement.
