  • Patent number: 4459744
Abstract: A razor blade arrangement is provided, wherein the razor blade is supported for movement between concave and convex configurations. The razor blade is mounted in a cartridge which holds the blade flexed in convex configuration. The blade is so mounted in the cartridge and the cartridge is so mounted on a handle, that the cartridge-blade assembly may be flexed upon an application of a force on the face thereof. The cartridge-blade assembly is detachably mounted on the handle. The blade is mounted in the cartridge so as to permit relative longitudinal displacement between the blade and cartridge. This movement is afforded by means of providing elongated holes in the blade, which are engaged by pins or pegs forming part of the cartridge. The method of the invention comprises flexing a razor blade between convex and concave shapes in correspondence with the surface to be shaved. The blade is actually flexible in the order of magnitude of about one-eighth of an inch.

  • Patent number: 4460311
Abstract: Apparatus and method for minimizing and maintaining substantially constant the effective blade tip clearance between the outer free ends of rotor blades and an adjacent casing shroud of an axial-flow turbine of a gas turbine engine. The casing shroud includes a portion facing the hot gas stream and the outer rotor blade ends and a packing of high heat-resistance, high erosion-resistance ceramic elements secured to the shroud via a metal ring to face the blade tips. A heat insulator is interposed between the packing and the metal ring. A perforated conduit is mounted outside the metal ring for blowing cooling fluid against the metal ring on the side thereof remote from the insulator for equalizing the expansion of the metal ring to that of the turbine wheel. The ceramic packing includes projections facing the outer ends of the blades which are tapered so that they are easily broken off when coming into contact with the blades during running-in of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4450755
Abstract: A blower apparatus is provided especially suitable for an air curtain, screen or barrier. The apparatus includes a blower in the form of a plurality of blades arranged to describe a cylinder. A guide encircles the blower, but is open-ended thereupon and extends axially beyond the blower to generate an air stream, the width of which is greater than that of the blower. A deflector or interceptor plate is arranged, which is coextensive with that portion of the guide, which extends beyond the blower and which is coextensive with a portion of the blower in a range of about 45.degree.-90.degree. thereof. The deflector or interceptor plate prevents air from circulating in an axial direction back into the blower and therefore improves the effectiveness of generation of the air stream, which flows tangentially out of the blower arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4434061
Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously separating solids and liquid in a solids-liquid mixture are disclosed. In accordance with the invention, a separation zone for separating solids and liquids from a solids liquid mixture is provided in which the mixture is subjected to centrifugal force under low shear forces and low turbulence. In this zone, the flow rate is maintained to be less than the terminal settling velocity of the solids in the mixture. Further in accordance with the invention, the mixture is introduced into the separation zone from a zone of higher turbulence and higher flow rate than those of the separation zone, a minor part of the mixture in the other zone being removed to the separation zone. The major part of the mixture is removed from the other zone and discharged and returned to the mixture source in such a manner as to aerate the returned mixture. • Patent number: 4426940
Abstract: A machine for burying slurry, sewage, or other soil-improving fluids has a hollow straight forward-leaning tine which carries at its bottom end an arched, forward-sloping delta-shaped shoe for lifting the soil into the form of a tunnel. The hollow interior of the tine opens through the roof of this shoe, and slurry is delivered through the tine into the cavity under the shoe. A free-running vibrator on the tine vibrates it and the shoe vertically. The tine is resiliently loaded by a spring to its working position, and the reaction of the spring is applied directly to a reaction lever separately pivoted on a subframe carrying the tine. The spring reaction biases the lever downwards, and the lever is supported at its rearward end behind the tine by a roller which closes the slit formed by the tapered leading edge of the tine.
