  • Patent number: 4893674
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a tubular distributor of a heat exchanger in which the distributor is formed by layers of material between which the ends of heat exchange tubes of a matrix are secured in fluid-tight manner. The layers are made of fibers which are juxtaposed between the tube ends of adjacent rows and the layers are deformed by compression so that they each engage around one-half of the associated row of tubes to form an initially porous structure into which a metallic material is injected to integrate the fibers of the layers with one another and with the ends of the tubes in sealed relation.

  • Patent number: 4894086
Abstract: A method of producing dispersion hardened metal alloys which incorporate highly reactive metals or their alloys whose oxides are not adapted to be easily reduced. According to the method, the highly reactive metals of their alloys are added as powder particles to a solution of a salt of a reducible metal which is to form a metallic matrix in which the reactive metals or their alloys are to be integrated, after which the solution is atomized to form particles from which the solvent is removed to yield the final product of the metal matrix with the highly reactive metals or their alloys integrated therein as a second phase.

  • Patent number: 4891035
Abstract: In a slide type universal joint mounted between two transmission shafts between which power is transmitted, to connect both the shafts in a pivotable manner, a plurality of axially extending transmission grooves are provided in an inner peripheral surface of a hollow cylindrical outer member connected to one of the transmission shafts, while radial trunnions are mounted on an inner member connected to the other transmission shaft to project into the corresponding transmission grooves of the outer member. An inner roller is slidably fitted on the outer periphery of the trunnion and in turn, a holder is fitted on the outer periphery of the inner roller for rotatable support of an outer roller which is rollable within the transmission grooves. A regulating mechanism is provided between the holder and the outer member for preventing inclination of the holder with respect to the transmission groove while permitting smooth rolling movement of the outer roller within the transmission groove.

  • Patent number: 4883921
Abstract: Jointing clamp (1) intended for electrical conductors and comprising an insulating, conical outer housing (2) having arranged therein a similarly conical inner sleeve (3). The narrow end of the outer sleeve (2) has located internally therein a seat (7) against which a metal ball (6) is locked by the inner sleeve (3) in a manner to fully close the narrow end of the inner sleeve. The outer sleeve (2) is extended with a tubular part (9) which surrounds a through-passing hole (10) in the seat (7) and thus forms a protective tubular device through which access can be had to the metal ball (6) with the aid of a test probe but which will prevent unintentional finger contacts with the ball. This enables electrical measurements to be made safely at joint locations without the need to remove the jointing clamps therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4881932
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for manufacturing plastic film bags with two-piece flaps. A slitting tool slits the flap portion of a longitudinally displaced film strip arrangement and a spacing tool displaces one of the resulting sections to form a gap. Thereafter, an adhesive hearing tape is applied to bridge the gap and connect the separated sections. After this, a cutting tool cuts notches into the two-piece flap portion which is lifted for this purpose by a Teflon-coated template having a slot to receive the cutting tool. The template has a channel system to enable blowing away the cut out portion. The separate bags are formed by sealing and severing at a position to intersect the notches. The method of the invention involves cutting the notches into the flap section to delineate separate flaps and associated bags in a time frame which follows the folding of the flap section over the main body of the bag.

  • Patent number: 4882197
Abstract: In a method of depositing a lubricant layer on a protection layer of a magnetic base, a lubricant is vaporized in a hollow space which is kept at a predetermined temperature under ambient pressure. The predetermined temperature is determined between 100.degree. C. and 300.degree. C. in consideration of a material of the protection layer and a vapor pressure of the lubricant. Preferably, the vaporization of the lubricant is carried out in a thermostatic chamber which defines a hollow space divided by a mesh partition into an upper and a lower chamber. The magnetic base and the lubricant are placed in the upper chamber with the lubricant held in a boat while a heater is disposed in the lower chamber.

  • Patent number: 4878753
Abstract: The specification describes a method for measuring the offset between regular images of, for instance, halftone dots and double images thereof, in which a test screen pattern is printed along an edge of the paper web to be printed which consists of two rows of test pattern strips representing a fishbone pattern. Using two sensors the gray values of the two test pattern rows are scanned and supplied to a double element printing measuring device. On the basis of the results of measurement and the geometrical relationships of the test strips and of the test edges arising owing to double printing phenomena the degree of double print offset may be determined. The method may be used for on line measurement of the degree of double print offset during the operation of the printing press.

  • Patent number: 4878566
Abstract: A method and mechanism for selectively transmitting and interrupting power between an input shaft and an output shaft arranged in coaxial relation in which a rotary member is coupled to one of the shafts to provide first and second states therebetween and wherein in the first state the rotary member is free to rotate and rotation is transmitted between the input and output shafts, whereas in the second state the input shaft can rotate relative to the output shaft and transmission of rotation is interrupted. The rotary member and the one shaft are angularly rotated relative to one another between first and second relative positions in the first and second states, and rotation of the rotary member is halted by a disc brake in the second state.

  • Patent number: 4877390
Abstract: A degassification device for a screw extruder which processes plastic material in which the extruder has a hollow housing and an extruder screw rotatable in the housing, the degassification device having a pair of degassification screws disposed adjacent to the extruder screw for rotation about axes parallel to the axes of rotation of the extruder screw. A housing headpiece accommodates the degassification screws and is in communication with the extruder housing such that gas and vapor produced in the extruder housing can flow radially therefrom into the housing headpiece for discharge therefrom. The degassification screws have threads which interengage one another and they are driven in the same direction of rotation. The housing headpiece has adjacent longitudinal bores which overlap one another and respectively receive the degassification screws therein with their threads interengaged with one another.

  • Patent number: 4877376
Abstract: A fiber reinforced thermoplastic propeller is attached to a metallic rotor by an integral shank at the base of the propeller. By virtue of the manufacture of the shank and the propeller as an integral construction, improved transmission of centrifugal forces especially where the propeller and hub have greatly different cross-sections can be effected while simultaneously reducing weight. Attachment of the shank to the hub is made through a connection by which pre-stress can be applied to the propeller to assist in resistance of lateral impact force.

  • Patent number: 4875557
Abstract: A device for automatically resetting the play between a brake lining and a rotating brake member which is to be braked. The device is able to take into account an increase in the play due to wear as well as a decrease in the play due to overadjustment due to internal elasticity and heating, during each braking operation by suitably dimensioned positive and negative resetting. The device employs a setting member which is rotatable in a housing and with which a coupling can be engaged to drive a setting shaft and thereby take up play during braking. As the braking force increases, the coupling is locked against rotation and as the setting shaft undergoes further displacement, the play is slightly increased.

  • Patent number: 4871515
Abstract: The invention provides an electrostatic particle filter in the case of which the collecting electrode is structured in order to make possible a reliable separation of the particles from the gases. The collecting electrode is so designed that a number of windshadow areas formed by spaces are provided in which the electrostatically attracted particles are able to be trapped without being entrained by the main current. A powerful corona discharge ensures simultaneous oxidation of combustible particles if the gas current contains oxygen.
