  • Patent number: 7054602
Abstract: The present invention relates to a calibration arrangements and, in particular, calibration arrangements in an antenna receiver included in a radio base station. The receiver (1) comprises an antenna (300) with one or more amplifiers (100, 200) located in a chain, wherein the noise (Na+Ni) produced by the amplifier/amplifiers (100, 200) can be a reference value during estimation of the gain (G) of the receiver (1). Signal loss due to aging of the components and ambient variations as e.g., temperature can be compensated. An advantage of the present invention is that an external reference source when calibrating the gain of a receiver can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 7054629
Abstract: The present invention relates to method and means for a system initiated subscriber information redistribution in order to achieve a load redistribution within a pool of core network nodes. The subscribers, that are affected by the redistribution, are determined by the bit values in their TMSI's. These specific TMSI's are then arranged to be treated as invalid by the cellular system. Messages etc. from subscribers with invalid TMSI's will be “trapped” in the cellular system and the subscriber information that belongs to these subscribers will be redistributed to new core network nodes.

  • Patent number: 7053309
Abstract: The figure shows an electrical cable with conductors (1) of metal, surrounded by each of an inner conducting layer (2), insulation (3) and an outer conducting layer (4). A moisture barrier (11) with an electrically conducting layer surrounds the conductors. Shield strips (5) of at least partially conducting material are located in the regions between the outer conducting layer (4) and the moisture barrier (11). Electrically conducting shield wires (6) run along the shield strips and are placed through these into electrical contact with the electrically conducting layer of the moisture barrier (11). The shield strips support the moisture barrier from the inside, such that the moisture barrier can in a simple manner be made watertight when it is applied. The shield strips (5), the moisture barrier (11) and the shield wires (6) together constitute an efficient electrical shield for the cable.

  • Patent number: 7054394
Abstract: For a noise resistant estimation of a Doppler spread for a radio signal transmission channel in a mobile communications environment, the Doppler spread is estimated on the basis of an autocorrelation function for predefined signal portions of a received radio signal, such as pilot bits of signals transmitted via a control channel in a mobile telephone system. The received radio signal and in particular the predefined signal portions are demodulated to obtain discrete autocorrelation coefficients for the predefined signal portions. First and second derivatives of the autocorrelation function are estimated on the basis of at least two of the autocorrelation coefficients. In dependence of used autocorrelation coefficients, influence of noise included in the received radio signal can be at least reduced with respect to an estimation of the Doppler spread.

  • Patent number: 7054353
Abstract: The present invention is related to a Rake receiver (R1) for receiving a radio signal and to a searcher (S8a, S8b) for estimating the delay profile of one or more radio links. The searcher includes means for estimating delay profiles in separate windows. The searcher is arranged for being switched into a single window mode or alternatively into a multiple window mode. In single window mode the delay profiles of separate radio links are estimated in the windows, while in multiple window mode two or more windows are allocated adjacent in time for estimating the delay profile of the same radio link. Thereby, the use of the resources of the searcher can be adapted to the radio environments in which the searcher will be used. The Rake receiver comprises fingers that are grouped into two sets. Within a set of fingers the propagation paths are time aligned. The output from the two set of fingers are time aligned and then combined.

  • Patent number: 7020086
Abstract: A method for practical QoS routing, which provides a solution to the delay constrained least cost routing problem, is presented. The method uses the concept of aggregated costs and finds the optimal multiplier based on Lagrange relaxation. The method is polynomial in running time, and produces a theoretical lower bound (i.e. optimal solution), along with the result. The differences between the lower bound and result are small, indicating the quality of the result. Additionally, by further relaxing the desire for an optimal solution, an option is provided to control the trade-off between running time of the algorithm and quality of the result.

  • Patent number: 7016355
Abstract: A method of determining the propagation delay over a packet switched network intented to provide a segment of a telephone circuit. In response to a request for a telephone circuit between two subscribers, a packet containing an echo request message is transmitted over the packet switched network from a first network node to a second network node. The second network node reacts to receipt of the echo request message by transmitting a packet containing an echo reply message to the first network node. The first network node then determines the round trip propagation delay for the packet switched network segment on the basis of the time which elapses between sending the echo request message from the first node and receiving the echo reply message also at the first node.

  • Patent number: 7003200
Abstract: The polarization axes of the ends of two PM fibers are aligned in an automatic fiber splicer by first making a linear alignment of the fiber ends (1, 1?) using movable retainers (21) the same way as for conventional splicing. The fiber ends are rotated by rotatable fixtures (22) to capture images by a camera (9) and therefrom, in an image processing and analysis unit (15), as controlled by logical circuits (33) light contrast profiles are determined as functions of the angular position. From the light contrast profiles the polarization axes are determined and then they are aligned with each other. The images are captured of an area at and around the fiber ends as seen in an observation plane. This observation plane is taken to have such a position that the variation of the light contrast profiles is sufficiently large, this making the determination of the angular positions of the polarization axes have a sufficient accuracy, also for for example elliptical core fibers.

  • Patent number: 6985474
Abstract: A method for processing multiple random access requests is disclosed in which a base station transmits an acquisition indicator signal, which indicates that the base station has detected the presence of a random access transmission. The acquisition indicator can be generated based on the amount of energy received on the random access channel (e.g., as opposed to the correct/incorrect decoding of a random access message). Consequently, the delay between the beginning of the random access transmission and the beginning of the acquisition indicator transmission is significantly shorter than the delay to the beginning of an acknowledgment transmission based on the reception of a correctly decoded random access message. If a mobile station does not receive a positive acquisition indicator, it should interrupt the present transmission and start to re-transmit the random access burst in the next time slot, while modifying the transmission power level accordingly between the successive re-transmissions.

  • Patent number: 6983149
Abstract: The present invention is related to cellular radio communication network and is a method for determining a Monitored set (MS) of cells associated with an Active set (AS) of cells by a particular ranking of the neighbouring cells associated with each of the cells in the Active set. A neighbouring cell list is created which contains for each active cell its neighbouring cells. These cells can be in a random order and can include other active cells. A scanning operation is done starting with the neighbouring cell (C12 or C31) on top of the list which belongs to the strongest active cell (C11), whereby this cell will be included in the Monitoring set if certain conditions (3,4; respectively, FIG. 4). Next, the list associated with the next strongest active cell (C12) is considered. This scanning is repeated until the maximum size of the Monitoring set has been reached.

  • Patent number: 6980742
Abstract: Wavelength drift in an optical WDM system between wavelengths launched by lasers (110) and received at a demultiplexer (50) can lead to disturbance of traffic signals if not identified and rectified rapidly. It is proposed to identify wavelength drift by determining a difference in temperature of the demultiplexer (50) for each channel between an actual temperature and a temperature for optimal transmission of the channel. The mean of these temperature differences for all channels is indicative of wavelength drift, while each difference is utilised to determine whether an individual channel is drifting in wavelength and to correct the drift. Wavelength drift can be detected and corrected whether sourced at a laser (110) or due to a temperature variation at the demultiplexer (50). Measurement and control can be performed during normal operation without impeding or degrading traffic flow. Wavelength influencing parameters other than temperature can be utilized.

  • Patent number: 6976177
Abstract: A secure communication method for allowing a mobile host to communicate with a correspondent host over a Virtual Private Network. The method comprises negotiating one or more Security Associations between the mobile host and a correspondent host of a Virtual Private Network. Subsequently, a communication is initiated between the mobile host and a Security Gateway and an authentication certificate sent to the Security Gateway, the certificate containing at least the identity of a Security Association which will be used for subsequent communication between the mobile host and the correspondent host. Data packets can then be sent from the mobile host to the correspondent host using the identified Security Association, via the Security Gateway. However, the data packets are forwarded by the Security Gateway to the correspondent host only if they are authenticated by the Security Gateway.

  • Patent number: 6973135
Abstract: In a wireless telecommunications system, data processing delays associated with digital channelization and de-channelization may be reduced through the use of a technique that involves processing data blocks in conjunction with the transformation of the data blocks by a large, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm, and makes use of multiple transmission and reception branches. In accordance with this technique, the processing delays associated with the FFT algorithm are minimized, but not to the detriment of other important channelizer/de-channelizer design characteristics, such as power consumption, die area and computational complexity.

  • Patent number: 6973054
Abstract: A method in a communication system of transferring control of a user-plane entity from a first control-plane entity to a second control-plane entity is provided. The user-plane entity sends a set of identifying parameters to the first control-plane entity, which subsequently sends the set of identifying parameters to the second control-plane entity. The second control-plane entity determines if it can control the user-plane entity. If the second control-plane entity can control the user-plane entity, then the second control-plane entity sends an indication to the user-plane entity that a change in control-plane entities has occurred and that at least some resources of the user-plane entity that were controlled by the first control-plane entity are to be controlled by the second control-plane entity. The resources may be allocated to a mobile terminal and the change in control entity may be the result of a change in location of the mobile terminal.
