  • Patent number: 5308452
Abstract: A waste photopolymer plate washout fluid solvent distillation apparatus includes a single enclosure enclosing a waste washout fluid container, a recovered solvent container, and a distillation unit in which waste washout is distilled by application of heat and vacuum pressure to the waste washout, and by supplying a metered supply of a surrogate solvent to the distilled waste washout as a desired solvent is distilled from the waste washout. The apparatus, by supplying the surrogate solvent to the waste washout as the desired solvent is distilled from the waste washout, enables a greater percentage of the desired solvent to be recovered from the waste washout than has been heretofore possible with prior art apparatus, and also enables the waste washout to be disposed of as a liquid.

  • Patent number: 5307763
Abstract: A restricted area alarm confinement system includes a loop antenna for placement about the border of an area within which a child or other person is desired to be confined, or excluded from, a control panel for recording a voice command in the parent's voice, and means for generating an RF signal encoded with said prerecorded voice command for transmission over said antenna. A transceiver is mounted to a harness or other support for attachment to the child such that as the child approaches the antenna the parent's voice command is received from the antenna and announced to the child to encourage him to withdraw from the border. A threshold level detector detects when the child approaches even closer to the antenna and the transceiver includes a transmitter section for transmitting a warning signal to a beeper/receiver held by the parent. The control panel further includes monitoring circuits for monitoring the integrity of the loop antenna and the AC power supply.

  • Patent number: 5305390
Abstract: A system for automatically recognizing persons or objects as they move past a selected location and for classifying the persons or objects in accordance with selected criteria. The system includes emitters for emitting beams toward a person or object moving past a selected location to generate reflected beams from the person or object. The included angle of the emitted and reflected beam is a function of the height of the person or object. A detector detects the reflected beams and generates signals representative of the included angle, and thus representative of a time-dependent height profile of the person or object from which the beams are reflected. The person or object is classified according to selected criteria.

  • Patent number: 5301718
Abstract: An apparatus for metering an accurate flow of a first fluid, at a low pressure and a low flow rate, into a conduit conducting a flow of a second fluid, at a much higher pressure and much greater flow rate, comprises a pressure reducer containing a nozzle and a peristaltic pump connected in fluid communication with the pressure reducer. The pressure reducer is connected in the conduit and the nozzle of the pressure reducer increases the flow rate of the second fluid flowing through the pressure reducer, thereby correspondingly reducing the pressure of the second fluid in the pressure reducer. The peristaltic pump supplies the first fluid to an area of the bore through the pressure reducer where the nozzle has decreased the pressure of the second fluid channeled through the pressure reducer. A pressure relief valve communicates with the pressure reducer to prevent the pressure of the second fluid from decreasing below a third fluid pressure.

  • Patent number: 5300120
Abstract: A passive transponder may be encoded with a number or code of up to 64 binary bits and then mounted to virtually any prosthesis implanted in a human, such as a breast implant. After implantation, the transponder's code may be conveniently read with a hand held electromagnetic reader which may merely be brought within proximity of the transponder. The encoded transponder may thus be read in a non-invasive procedure and without the use of any sophisticated or potentially harmful medical equipment or technology such as X-ray. The information encoded in the transponder may correspond to patient demographics and implant data to aid in tracking the implant's manufacturer and use for medical as well as legal reasons.

  • Patent number: 5294441
Abstract: This invention provides immunogenic compositions for the immunization of a vertebrate or invertebrate comprising an avirulent derivative of S. typhi. The derivatives having a mutation of the cya and/or crp and/or cdt genes. The invention also provides immunogenic compositions for the immunization of a vertebrate and invertebrate comprising an avirulent derivative of the above type which is capable of expressing a recombinant gene derived from a pathogen of said vertebrate or invertebrate individual to produce an antigen capable of inducing an immune response against said pathogen. Other embodiments of the invention include methods of preparing immunogenic compositions from these strains, and strains useful in the preparation of the immunogenic compositions, as well as methods of stimulating the immune system to respond to an immunogenic antigen of S. typhi by administration of the immunogenic composition.

  • Patent number: 5284388
Abstract: A receiver arrangement includes a bin vent for collecting ingredient dust and a multiple tee arrangement which permits the connection of a minor/micro pressure blow transfer system for dry ingredients into the major pressure blow system which transfers major ingredients into the receiver. A bottom diverter valve at the top of the receiver permits these ingredients to be directly transferred into the receiver, or to be transferred into the bin vent for addition at a later stage of the mixing process. The receiver and bin vent are supported by load cells to continuously monitor the weight of ingredients contained in the receiver/bin vent so that proper amounts of each ingredient are reliably included in each batch. Three different embodiments are disclosed.
