Abstract: A meter-out flow control valve is provided that is compact and possesses a regenerative function. A poppet valve 70 for establishing and blocking fluid communication between a first actuator port 73-1 and a tank port 74 is urged by a spring 71 into a pressure contact with a seat 72. The poppet valve 70 is moved away from the seat 72 under pressure in a first pressure receiving chamber 80-1. A cylindrical valve 103 is fitted with the poppet valve 70 to provide a regenerative switching valve 101 that may establish and block fluid communication between the first actuator port 73-1 and a first regenerative port 100. A meter-out flow control valve having a poppet valve 70 and a cylindrical valve 103 fitted together is thus provided that is compact in form and yet capable of regenerating pressure fluid in a first actuator port 73-1 into a first regenerative port 100.
Abstract: An automatic self-testing system includes a plurality of sensor processing channels or paths each having a sensor for providing, either directly or indirectly, a digital value to a comparator which compares the measured value with predetermined value that is, in turn, provided to coincidence logic that evaluates the output of its comparator with the output of the comparators of the other paths to provide an output indicative of a pass/fail condition. Each sensor processing path includes two sub-paths that can be associated with or switched into the processing path while the disassociated sub-path undergoes off-line testing by a test processor. Testing is effected by providing a digital value to the sub-path under test while sensing the output to determine the functional validity of the sub-path under test. The combinational logic state of the system is monitored and converted into a decimal value that is compared with the set of decimal values corresponding to the finite known-good logic states of the system.

Abstract: A magnetic head unit is provided in which the distance between a surface of the gimbal plate put touching the pressing member and a surface of the magnetic head facing the first or second disc-shaped recording medium is set to fall in a range of 0.3 to 0.8 mm and thus the coil winding concavity can be formed in the intermediate portion of the magnetic head in the direction of the head thickness and the magnetic heads can be kept stably in place in relation to the disc-shaped recording medium. Also, a recording and/or reproducing apparatus using the magnetic head unit is provided.
Abstract: A rush current limiting device capable of restraining increased power consumption and heat generation caused by resistance for limiting rush current, and effectively limiting rush current caused on any conditions has. A resistance for limiting rush current caused by switching of a power switch between a rectifier diode bridge and a smoothing condenser. A triode AC switch and the relay are provided in parallel with the resistance. The on-operation of a power switch is monitored by the input monitoring circuit, and an triode AC switch is turned on at the zero crossing point of input signals after the on-operation by the zero crossing circuit to short-circuit the resistance. After a delay of the relay due to sensitive time, the relay is turned on by a relay driving circuit, and the triode AC switch is turned on.

Abstract: A nuclear reactor coolant system includes a primary coolant circuit connected to a secondary coolant circuit. A desired amount of coolant is bled from the primary circuit to the secondary circuit for purification and controlling chemical composition of the coolant. Variable speed charging pumps are provided in the secondary circuit to pump coolant back into the primary circuit at variable pressures and flow rates. A pressurizer level control system is also disclosed for controlling pump speeds.

Abstract: An incremental braking method and system in which a braked member which is in motion, e.g., a brake drum, is engaged by a series of flexible stops on a braking member, e.g., a brake shoe, to brake the braked member. A rigid stop on the braked member sweeps past the flexible stops on the braking member to cause vibrations. The vibrations are damped as the flexible stops engage the braked member, thereby inhibiting the motion of the braked member. The flexible stops are of unequal lengths and are provided on springs which allow them to retract into the braking member. In this way, the stops incrementally engage the braked member for smoother and more efficient braking.
Abstract: A rotation control device capable of suppressing vibrations of a rotation unit produced due to changes in weight unbalances of the rotation unit. On a disc rotation control device 2, made up of a driving shaft 8 rotated along with an optical disc 90, a turntable 9, a motor rotor 10 and a magnet 15 mounted on the motor rotor 10, balancer members 6, 7 are mounted so that the balancer members 6, 7 are rotatably supported on the driving shaft 8. The disc rotation control device 2 causes rotation of the rotation unit such that a synthesized center of gravity of the rotation unit offset from the center of rotation by the unbalances of the optical disc 90 and the balancer members 6, 7 will coincide with the center of rotation.

The information reproducing apparatus emits an electron beam E from an electron gun 40 to the signal layer 12 of the disk 1, detects a change of the incident intensity of the reflection thereof via a detector 42, and reproduces the information of the disk 1 by a reproducing circuit 5. A recording medium 20 comprised by a conductive layer 22, an insulating layer 23, and island-like fixed electrodes 24 thereon electrically insulated from the periphery with a memory function imparted to the fixed electrodes. For the writing, electrons are injected into the fixed electrodes by the electron gun. For full erasure, a voltage is applied to the conductive layer 22. For the reading, the electrostatic effect of the counter electrodes and the fixed electrodes is utilized. This enables an increase of the volume of information and an enhancement of precision of the reading of the information.
Abstract: Since each driving circuit has corresponded to the entire range of signal voltage, the dynamic range is large, it is difficult to constitute it by high Vth transistors, and a circuit having sufficient driving capacity for both input and output of current must be used, leading to increased circuit area and current consumption. To solve the problem, a circuit for driving column lines is divided into two in response to signal voltage with, for example, the common voltage as a reference, and these two column line driving circuits are arranged on the upper and lower sides of the LCD effective screen portion every two columns, and when the output end of the one column line driving circuit is connected to one of two column lines the analog switches are open-close timing controlled so that the output end of the other column line driving circuit is connected to the other of the two column lines.
Abstract: A power accessory for apportioning electrical current between an electronic device and a rechargeable battery used in connection with the device includes two current limiting circuits. The first current limiting circuit limits the current supplied to the device to the peak current that device may demand. Any remaining current from the first current limiting circuit is passed through the second current limiter to the recharge the battery based on a charging algorithm. When the battery is fully charged, the second current limiting circuit stops providing current to the battery.

Abstract: A chemical treatment apparatus including a treatment tank filled with chemical with which wafers are treated, and a jet pipe having chemical jetting holes which is provided at the bottom portion of the treatment tank and jets the chemical from the jetting holes thereof, the jetting holes containing at least first jetting holes for jetting the chemical upwardly and second jetting holes for jetting the chemical in a direction different from that of the first holes. Abstract: A magnetic filtration system for separating radioactive cut material from a fluid stream containing a mixture of the radioactive cut material and an abrasive cutting material. The system comprises a magnetic filter in fluid communication with the fluid stream. By selecting an abrasive cutting material having a different magnetic susceptibility than the radioactive material being cut, the abrasive cutting material can be separated from the radioactive cut material with the magnetic filter. The amount of high level radioactive material is thereby reduced for handling and disposal. The magnetic filter is part of a closed-loop system that extracts a fluid stream containing a mixture of abrasive cutting material and radioactive cut material from an enclosure in which an abrasive waterjet cutting tool is operated. Other filters are provided in the system for removing the radioactive cut particulate from the fluid stream in multiple stages according to a size of the particulate.
Abstract: A novel method and apparatus of monitoring brain wave activity in a patient allows the patient to be mobile during the monitoring. A size adjustable skull cap is fitted to the patient. In the skull cap a plurality of sensors monitor the patient's brain waves and transmit the data with a polydirectional antenna over a wireless connection to a supporting system. The supporting system processes, correlates and allows a physician to review, edit and annotate the data obtained from monitoring the patient.
