  • Patent number: 8332831
Abstract: A software-to-hardware compiler is provided that generates hardware constructs in programmable logic resources. The programmable logic resources may be optimized in terms of being configured to make additional copies of regions on memory devices other than on the programmable logic resources (e.g., RAM). This facilitates multiple reads during a single clock cycle. Symbol set analysis is used to minimize the size of regions to allow for more efficient use of hardware resources.

  • Patent number: 8332860
Abstract: A dynamic approach for managing capacity in a storage environments accounting for various resource types, tiers, access paths, relationships among different storage environment components, as well as managing capacity in terms of resource planning and consumption is provided. Resource planning and consumption processes are used to allocate and reserve resources of different types and different tiers to each access path in the network. Capacity information for different resources types and tiers is automatically aggregated from different network components at different stages of a resource management cycle. The aggregated information may be used to estimate future resource needs or determine deviations between projected and actual status from which adjustments may be made to better predict future capacity needs.

  • Patent number: 8327403
Abstract: Methods and systems for remotely scheduling for recording or ordering a program advertised on a web page of a website. A program advertisement is displayed on a user device. In response to a user's selection of the advertisement, information is transmitted from the user device to a web server of the web page without navigating the user away from the website. The information includes information that identifies a user's equipment to a remote access server. A record request or an order request is transmitted by the web server to the remote access server. The remote access server cross-references the record or order request with an action request. The action request is transmitted to the user's television equipment to record or access the advertised program.

  • Patent number: 8320560
Abstract: A secure data parser is provided that may be integrated into any suitable system for securely storing and communicating data. The secure data parser parses data and then splits the data into multiple portions that are stored or communicated distinctly. Encryption of the original data, the portions of data, or both may be employed for additional security. The secure data parser may be used to protect data in motion by splitting original data into portions of data, that may be communicated using multiple communications paths.

  • Patent number: 8321896
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention is a t-commerce platform, which is linked to the content from a video signal that the user is currently watching. At some point during the broadcast of the content, a close-up of the product is shown. Simultaneous with this, a VBI-based trigger is added to the video signal of the broadcast. This trigger causes the television, a set-top box, or a similar device to capture in a memory, a “freeze-frame” of the image being shown. This action is transparent to the user while the video being displayed on the television is continuing normally. If the user chooses to perform an interactive “buy” transaction the saved image data is used as part of the interactive screen display.

  • Patent number: 8318194
Abstract: A porous silicon implant impregnated with a beneficial substance, such as a micromineral required for healthy physiology, is implanted subcutaneously and is entirely corroded away over the following months/year to release the micromineral in a controlled manner. In a second embodiment the implant may have a large number of holes which contain beneficial substance and which are closed by bio-errordable doors of different thickness so as to stagger the release of the beneficial substance over time as the doors are breached.

  • Patent number: 8314636
Abstract: A field programmable gate array (“FPGA”) is provided having integrated application specific integrated circuit (“ASIC”) fabric. The ASIC fabric may be used to implement one or more custom or semi-custom hard blocks within the FPGA. The ASIC fabric can be made up of a “custom region” and an “interface region.” The custom region can implement the custom or semi-custom ASIC design and the interface region can integrate and connect the custom region to the rest of the FPGA circuitry. The custom region may be based on a structured ASIC design. The interface region may allow the ASIC fabric to be incorporated within the hierarchical organization of the FPGA, allowing the custom region to connect to the FPGA circuitry in a seamless manner.

  • Patent number: 8316394
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed that allow a user to efficiently navigate media selections in an interactive media guidance application and easily identify media for viewing. The disclosed methods and systems provide an environment wherein video assets are displayed according to a user preference on a mosaic page with multiple cells. A subset of the assets appropriate for display in a particular cell is determined based on the user preference. Relevance scores of the assets meeting the user preference are computed, and the asset having the greatest relevance for the user is selected and displayed the corresponding cell. The relevance scores can be computed based on the user's historic viewing habits, user interaction with a media guidance application, or on specific user input.

  • Patent number: 8312484
Abstract: Systems and methods for blocking inappropriate or undesired media content. Commercials are reviewed and assigned ratings or other attributes. Metadata including one or more flags identifying a commercial's rating or other attribute is embedded or inserted into media guidance application data for the commercial or for the media content during which the commercial is to be displayed. The media guidance application data is then sent to a viewer's equipment. The equipment receives the media guidance application data, parses the data for the metadata, and then determines if the commercial can be displayed based on parental control restrictions set by a user.

  • Patent number: 8307023
Abstract: A programmable integrated circuit device includes a plurality of specialized processing blocks. Each specialized processing block may be small enough to occupy a single row of logic blocks. The specialized processing blocks may be located adjacent one another in different logic block rows, forming a column of adjacent specialized processing blocks. Each specialized processing block includes one or more multipliers based on carry-save adders whose outputs are combined using compressors. Chain-in and chain-out connections to the compressors allow adjacent specialized processing blocks to be cascaded to form arbitrarily large multipliers. Each specialized processing block also includes a carry-propagate adder, and the carry-propagate added in the final specialized processing block of the chain provides the final result. The size of the multiplication that may be performed is limited only by the number of specialized processing blocks in the programmable integrated circuit device.

  • Patent number: 8299424
Abstract: The systems and methods described herein include, among other things, systems capable of being deployed for long periods of time in oceanic, subsurface and atmospheric environments. The systems typically include mass spectrometers to measure low molecular weight gases dissolved in the water and volatile chemicals in air and water, and can move through the ocean, subsurface and atmospheric environment to take samples over a large geographic area. Additionally, these mass spectrometer devices are small and require little power and thereby facilitate the development of sample collection devices that can be placed at a remote location and operated for a substantial period of time from an on-board power supply such as a battery or a fuel cell. Such small and lightweight mass spectrometer devices when combined with low power AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles) and other manned and un-manned vehicles, can take samples over substantial distances and for a substantial period of time.
