  • Patent number: 5188499
Abstract: A wafer handling apparatus having a variable pitch includes a supporting surface (12) for holding a boat (14) in a predetermined location. An elevator mechanism (20) is operable to move upward through the boat to lift wafers (16) upward into intermediate restraining combs (24) and (26). Combs (22) are disposed on the elevator mechanism (20) for holding the wafers (16) on the edges thereof. The combs (22) can have the pitch thereof varied by the operation of a cylinder (56). The combs (22) have two rotating brackets (42) and (40) disposed on the sides thereof. The brackets (42) and (40) are pivoted on an elevator bracket (28) at points (44) and (46). When the lower bracket (40) is reciprocated upward by the cylinder (56) and the associated rod (54), the space between the combs (22) decreases.

  • Patent number: 5187396
Abstract: A differential comparator is provided for controlling two switches (40) and (42) to switch two supplies (10) and (12), respectively, to a common output node (22). The decision/control circuit (44) outputs two control signals (46) and (48), the logic state thereof being a function of whether supply (10) is higher than supply (12) or supply (12) is higher than supply (10). The operating power for the decision/control circuit (44) is derived from the supplies (10) and (12), and not from the common output node (22), such that when the switches (40) and (42) are closed and no power is being supplied by either of the supplies (10) and (12), the decision/control circuit (44) has sufficient power to make a decision.

  • Patent number: 5178020
Abstract: A fiber sampler has a flat collection surface and a carriage movable toward the surface to press a mass of fiber placed on the surface. The carriage, which includes a foraminous plate parallel to the collection surface, is pressed against the fiber with a predetermined pressure kept constant from one sample to the next with the pressure applied, a rake composed of parallel needles spaced rearwardly from a deflection bar is passed across the top of the foraminous plate to extract sample fibers from the portion of fiber extending through the plate holes. At the end of rake travel, the fibers are held between a fixed stop plate on the carriage and a back plate movable with the needles. A pinch clamp assembly is provided which can be lowered to grip the fibers collected on the needles.

  • Patent number: 5172115
Abstract: A ratiometric converter is provided that is comprised of a dual converter system utilizing a first converter (36) and a second converter (38). The second converter (38) is operable to receive the input voltage from a load cell (10) on sense lines (12) and (14) and compare them with an internal reference. Similarly, the first A/D converter (36) is operable to receive the reference voltage to the load cell (10) and compare it with the internal reference. The output of each of the converters (36) and (38) is then input to subtraction circuits (78) and (84), respectively, in the digital domain. In a calibration mode, switches (72) and (73) shorts the reference nodes in the load cell (10) together to determine the non-ratiometric offsets., These offsets are then stored in registers (80) and (86) for the reference voltage and the input voltage, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5169106
Abstract: A quick attach/release pole clamp is mounted on the side of a medical instrument case. A stationary clamp member is secured to the case and a movable clamp member slides in a slot oriented at a slight acute angle to the vertical, so that it moves toward and away from the stationary clamp member as it moves up and down the slot. A spring biases the movable clamp member toward the top of the slot so that the clamp is moved to the closed position. The user may support the instrument case in two hands while depressing the sliding clamp member to permit the clamp members to be positioned around a pole. When the pressure is released, the spring causes the clamp to close on the pole. A camming lever permits the user to provide positive latching of the clamp member from movement, and to engage an anti-rotation element with the pole. An interlock prohibits activation of the camming lever while the movable clamp member is being depressed.

  • Patent number: 5170209
Abstract: A process cartridge (14) is comprised of a process housing (138) and a transfer housing (148). The process housing (138) contains a photoconductor drum (16) and an intermediate transfer belt (160). The transfer belt (160) is operable to receive multiple images from the photoconductor drum (16) until a composite image is formed on the transfer belt (160). Thereafter, the transfer housing (140) is titled into contact with a backup roller (162) in the process housing (138) through a transfer roller (208). The nip between the two rollers is then operable to feed a piece of paper therethrough and transfer the composite image from the transfer belt (160) to the paper. Alignment pins (114) and (116) on the upper end of the housing and lower alignment pins (118) and (120) on the lower end of the process housing (138) are provided to fit in the guide rails (110) and (112), which provide an alignment function.

  • Patent number: 5159696
Abstract: Two cascaded eight-bit maskable counters (62) and (64) provide a sixteen-bit output, for instance, to a digital-to-analog converter (10). Each of the counters (62) and (64) is a maskable counter that is operable to mask off a programmable number of the least significant bits therein. The next adjacent bit thereto comprises a virtual least significant bit. During the counting operation, the count is initiated at the virtual least significant bit such that the virtual least significant bit is clocked for each counting cycle. An initial value is first loaded into the counter (62) and (64) on a data bus (74). Thereafter, masked data is loaded into the counters (62) and (64) on the same data bus (74) to define the ones of the least significant bits that are masked off. In such a manner, the overall resolution of the counter can be varied without varying the clock rate to the counter.
