Each block includes a central bore and fluid passages extending between the block faces, and possibly ducts extending between the bore and the fluid passages. The blocks may be rapidly horizontally and/or vertically affixed with their bores and/or fluid passages in communication to form a fluid handling device having the desired configuration (e.g., with the bores and fluid passages forming a desired process flow path, fluid circuit, or the like). Star wheels and/or rotor discs can be provided within the block bores for purposes of pumping fluids flowing within the bores, and/or for purposes of deriving power from fluid flow within the bores.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for managing fuel costs, along with a corresponding apparatus, and a corresponding medium are described. The method includes receiving transaction information at a Network Administrator, the transaction information being associated with: (a) a shipper who has arranged for a shipment of goods from an origin to a destination; and (b) a corresponding carrier that has agreed to transport the shipment using a pre-determined maximum number of eligible units of fuel, where the fuel is purchased by the carrier at a pre-set base price per eligible unit, and where the fuel is purchased from pre-selected fueling locations. The maximum number of eligible units of fuel and the base price per eligible unit for the shipment are established between the shipper and the carrier, while the fueling locations are established by the Network Administrator. The actual price paid for the fuel is set by the market.

Abstract: Vector preparations and cloning constructs suitable for use in cloning are provided. Vector preparations are double-stranded DNA molecules having two 3? termini, each terminus having a single base pair overhang that is capable of hybridizing to a single base pair overhang on a double stranded polynucleotide sequence to be cloned. The overhang of the vector preparation is suitably a dCMP and the overhang of the polynucleotide sequence to be cloned is suitably a dGMP. In other embodiments, the overhang of the polynucleotide sequence to be cloned is any ddNTP and the corresponding overhang of the vector preparation is any base that pairs to the ddNTP. The latter embodiment is particularly suited to preparing recombinant molecules having only a single insert. Methods of cloning, methods of preparing libraries of recombinant molecules and kits for carrying out the methods are also provided.

Abstract: A communications interface device is wearable about a user's neck, and can have various audio communications devices—such as cellphones, walkie-talkies, radios, scanners, digital music players, etc.—connected to the interface device to serve as a central communications hub. An audio input microphone is provided on the device to pick up audio messages that the user wishes to deliver, with such messages then being directed to the appropriate connected communications device. Speakers, which preferably extend from the interface device via flexible leads, supply audio from one or more of the connected communications devices to the user's ears. A switch or other selector is provided on the interface device to allow user selection of the communications devices from which the user wishes to receive (and to which the user wishes to send) messages.
Abstract: A self-contained handle assembly for a door provides a light emitting diode which indicates whether the door is locked or unlocked. The LED blinks when the door is locked and thus provides an active reminder of the position of the deadbolt.
Abstract: An arrowhead of the expandable or mechanical broadhead type, i.e., having blades which unfold to increase the effective cutting area of the arrowhead, includes a tip with a rearwardly-extending actuating member which triggers one or more blades into an open state when the tip strikes a target game animal. The blades are pivotable with respect to a body into which the actuating member extends, and they include ears against which the actuating member presses upon tip impact to trigger the blades open. A latching spring maintains the blades in a closed state until the tip and actuating member are driven rearwardly by tip impact, and the tip and actuating member are preferably maintained in a forward and ready-to-trigger state by an opening spring. The actuating member may extend between the blade ears after the blades are triggered open to fix the blades in the open state until the tip is pulled forwardly to withdraw the actuating member from the ears.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a clip type light emitter, and in particular to a clip type light emitter capable of enhancing a visual field at night by detachably engaging a clip type light emitter to a leisure cap (including hat) generally used for a mountain climbing or fishing or travel or various sports. The clip type light emitter comprises a casing forming a body; a plurality of lamps provided at a front side of the casing at regular intervals; a switch part provided in one side of the casing; a battery provided in the interior of the casing; and a clip provided in an upper side of the casing and having one side end integrally engaged with the casing and having a certain elastic force, wherein the clip type light emitter is detachably engaged to a leisure cap (including hat) used for a mounting climbing, a fishing or various outdoor leisure and sports.
Abstract: A self-contained mobile storage container includes a truck having a platform with a track, a storage container removably placed on the track on the platform, wherein the storage container includes a front end, a rear end and parallel sides. In addition, there are devices to secure the storage container to the platform, as well as a lift to elevate the storage container and remove it from the platform. Other devices are included to maneuver the storage container to a different geographical location for storage.
Abstract: The invention concerns implantable cardiac stimulation devices in general which have at least one stimulation pulse generator (A-STIM; RV-STIM; LV-STIM) to selectively generate a stimulation pulse for delivery to one of at least two different chambers of a heart, said chambers include right and left atria and right and left ventricles, at least one impedance measuring stage (I, U, IMP) being connected to electrodes or connectors for such electrodes to measure an intracardiac impedance when in use, a control unit (CTRL) connected to the stimulation pulse generator and to the impedance measuring unit and being adapted to process a minimum impedance value for a heart cycle to trigger stimulation pulses for two different chambers of the heart with an adjustable time delay (VVD; AVD) and to adjust said time delay depending upon the measured intracardiac impedance minimum value.
Abstract: A heart stimulator for electrical stimulation of a heart chamber includes a sensing stage sensing excitation of the heart chamber via an electrode lead having an electrode for picking up heart chamber electric potentials, a stimulation pulse generator generating electric stimulation pulses for delivery to the heart chamber via a stimulation electrode, and a control unit connected to the sensing stage and the stimulation pulse generator and being adapted to trigger the stimulation pulses at a controlled stimulation rate. A monitoring stage is provided for preventing too high of a stimulation rate for too long of a period of time, with the monitoring stage being connected to the control unit and being adapted to monitor the controlled stimulation rate, and to override the controlled stimulation rate by a fixed stimulation rate for a predetermined period of time if the average controlled stimulation rate exceeds a predetermined maximum rate.
Abstract: A method of specifically amplifying desired regions of nucleic acid from a sample is provided. The method uses a plurality of first and second PCR primers, each having a region of fixed nucleotide sequence identical or complementary to a consensus sequence of interest and a region of randomized nucleotide sequence located 5? to, 3? to, anywhere within, or flanking the region of fixed nucleotide sequence; and then amplifying the nucleic acid present in the sample via PCR using the plurality of first and second PCR primers; whereby a subset of the first primers binds to the consensus sequence of interest wherever it occurs in the sample, and a subset of the second primers binds to the sample at locations removed from the first primers such that DNA regions flanked by the first primer and the second primer are specifically amplified.
