Abstract: A composition of probiotics, vitamins and minerals, electrolytes with glutamine and glucose along with medium chain triglycerides are provided as a supplement to animals. This is administered to cattle, calves, sheep, pigs, horses, dogs, and cats that are experiencing stress and or are undergoing medical drug therapy to treat conditions of diseases along with pre and post operative surgical conditions. The composition helps correct imbalances in beneficial bacteria, provides energy and helps in rehydration to reduce recovery time from stress or in disease treatment in these animals.

Abstract: Polyacrylamide-based methods of fabricating surface-bound peptide and protein arrays, the arrays themselves, and a method of using the arrays to detect biomolecules and to measure their concentration, binding affinity, and kinetics are described. Peptides, proteins, fusion proteins, protein complexes, nucleic acids, and the like, are labeled with an acrylic moiety and attached to acrylic-functionalized glass surfaces through a copolymerization with acrylic monomer. The specific attachment of glutathione S-transferase-green fluorescent protein (GST-GFP) fusion protein was more than 7-fold greater than the nonspecific attachment of non-acrylic labeled GST-GFP. Surface-attached GST-GFP (0.32 ng/mm2) was detectable by direct measurement of green fluorescent protein fluorescence and this lower detection limit was reduced to 0.080 ng/mm2 using indirect antibody-based detection.

Abstract: A compact, smooth surfaced, flexible and formable, elongate apparatus that has a hair-clog snagging end portion for insertion into drains for snagging and removing the common hair clogs that exist in the upper portion of drains typically around the drain pop-up mechanism and drain trap. The elongate shaft (10) may be bent along its complete length into any shape and remain fixed in that shape to accommodate compact storage as well as forming a grasping and twisting handle for the shaft while it is in the drain or bending the hair-snagging end of the shaft for easier insertion and navigation within the drain. The hair-clog snagging portion, which is at the distal end of the shaft, is in the form of a pad (12), which maximizes the surface area of hair hooking members (38).

Abstract: Chemically-modified surfaces on unoxidized carbon, silicon, and germanium substrates are disclosed. Ultraviolet radiation mediates the reaction of protected ?-modified, ?-unsaturated aminoalkenes (preferred) with hydrogen-terminated carbon, silicon, or germanium surfaces. Removal of the protecting group yields an aminoalkane-modified silicon surface These amino groups can be coupled to terminal-modified oligonucleotides using a bifunctional crosslinker, thereby permitting the preparation of modified surfaces and arrays. Methods for controlling the surface density of molecules attached to the substrate are also disclosed.

Abstract: An implantable electrode device, particularly a cardiological electrode device, comprises an oblong, hose-like electrode body and a helical screw-in electrode, which is displaceable on the distal end of the electrode body between a retracted passive position inside the electrode body and an extended, active fixing position outside the electrode body, which is displaceable by a rotational movement of its electrode line, with the aid of a spindle-type cam controller, between the retracted passive position and the extended fixing position. The cam controller is formed by a separate cam coil, which is fixedly mounted in the electrode body and coaxially to the electrode supply line and, in addition, by a cam body, which is mounted on the electrode supply line rotationally fixed thereto and engages in the cam coil.
Abstract: Described is a catalytic process for converting sugars to furan derivatives (e.g. 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, furfural, dimethylfuran, etc.) using a biphasic reactor containing a reactive aqueous phase and an organic extracting phase. The process provides a cost-effective route for producing di-substituted furan derivatives. The furan derivatives are useful as value-added intermediates to produce polymers, as precursors to diesel fuel, and as fuel additives.

Abstract: A realistic appearing camouflage hunting blind that incorporates a photographic image of a hunting location. The visual appearance of the hunting blind mimics the actual environment so that from a distance, the hunting blind blends into the environment and is virtually undetectable. A photograph of an actual hunting location, like a Wisconsin forest, is taken and uploaded to a computer. The photograph is edited and printed onto substrate materials. The substrate materials are assembled to form a completed hunting blind.

Abstract: An educational electrical generation kit includes a bicycle wheel support which may accommodate the driven wheel of a bicycle, and wherein a generator engages the driven bicycle wheel to generate electricity. The kit also includes a display board with various electrical output meters and/or electrical loads for monitoring and/or dissipating the electrical output from the bicycle. The kit is designed to be readily portable and easily set up and torn down, and to allow a spectator/participant to incorporate a bicycle of virtually any size into the bicycle wheel support to interactively generate electricity for use in the display board.
Abstract: A nutritious, flavorful, digestible animal chew made from a dehydrated sweet potato is provided. The animal chew is non-allergenic and has a striated, deeply furrowed surface to improve the oral hygiene of an animal. The animal chew is low in calories, high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber and contains no animal-based or synthetic products.
Abstract: In a milking machine teat cup wherein an animal to be milked has its teat inserted into a teat cup liner during milking, a first electrode extends about or within at least a portion of the teat cup liner. To clean and/or disinfect the liner, a second electrode is inserted into the liner and the two electrodes are charged so as to generate plasma in any free space between the inserted second electrode and the interior surface of the liner. The generated plasma species destroy organisms that cause mastitis, and can additionally kill other unwanted organisms and/or perform cleaning of the liner's interior.

Abstract: The invention discloses a method of determining protease activity, in real time, using fluorescence polarization technology. In particular, the invention provides vectors and a method for their use, which expresses uncharacterized proteins conjugated to a fluorescence tag, which binds specifically to a fluorescent ligand. Cleavage of the recombinant protein results in a fragment of the expressed peptide and results in a change in fluorescence polarization of the fluorophore. The rate of change in fluorescence polarization can be measured in real time and is equivalent to the rate of protease cleavage.

Abstract: A graft is provided with a flexible sheet (10) of graft material to which is sewn a reinforcing wire (12), preferably of shape-memory alloy. Sewing of the wire (12) is carried out while the sheet (10) is substantially planar, thus by conventional embroidery machines. The sheet (10) is subsequently rolled into a tubular shape.
Abstract: A cooling system and method that significantly improves spray evaporative cooling by using a mixture of cooling fluids having different boiling points. The cooling fluid mixture is sprayed onto a surface to be cooled. Efficient cooling with reduced cooling fluid volume is provided by both evaporation of the more volatile component of the mixture as well as heating of the less volatile component which remains in contact with the surface being cooled. More uniform temperatures across the surface being cooled and a reduced risk of potentially damaging critical heat flux is achieved.
