  • Patent number: 4505563
Abstract: An electronic shutter mechanism for a still camera comprises a shutter blade, preferably carrying a solenoid armature, urged by a first spring into an initial lens aperture closing position. An initially latched actuating member for moving the shutter blade to a lens aperture exposing position carries a normally energized solenoid coil to attract the shutter blade carried armature thereto so that the shutter blade moves with the actuating member until the coil is deenergized. When the actuating member is unlatched, a second spring urges the actuating member and the shutter blade magnetically attached thereto into a lens aperture opening position against the return force of the first spring. Upon the unlatching of the actuating member a timing circuit establishes a timing period depending upon the amount of ambient light, after which the solenoid coil is deenergized so the first spring returns the shutter blade quickly to a lens aperture closing position.

  • Patent number: 4504697
Abstract: A sealed electrical device like a relay includes a support base, a relay device on the inner side of the support base through which extends longitudinally-exposed terminals for feeding current to the relay device, and a housing having a relay-enclosing portion, and a stepped intermediate portion forming a continuation of the device-enclosing portion and making a face-to-face sealing engagement with longitudinally and laterally outwardly facing surfaces on the support base so that there is no straight-on access of a water stream external to said housing into the interior thereof on the inner side of the support base from either a lateral or longitudinal direction. The intermediate housing portion terminates in a sealing skirt-forming end portion extending a substantial distance longitudinally beyond the sealed portion of the support base to act as a further barrier against the ingress of an external water stream into the interior of said housing on the inner side of said support base.

  • Patent number: 4500850
Abstract: The previously unknown cause of significant non-linear distortion by non-linear discrete and stray capacitances located in portions of an amplifier circuit where Miller effect enhancement of such capacitance occurs is minimized by one or more means, such as utilizing unique discrete capacitor arrangements and positioning of transistor terminal leads, and unique printed circuit board constructions and selectively applied solder mask coatings which minimize or eliminate non-linear stray capacitance effects which were not heretofore considered to be a problem in audio amplifier circuits. Non-linearities in capacitance-voltage characteristics are reduced by the reduction in voltage gradients achieved by connecting two or more capacitors in series to produce the overall desired capacitor value heretofore supplied by only a single capacitor.

  • Patent number: 4493482
Abstract: In a booklet-making system including a collating conveyor having an inverted V-shaped top profile for receiving folded signatures to be draped thereover, a signature raising plate is provided in the path of movement of the signature to and past an ink jet printing station for raising preferably only one side or panel of the conveyor draped signature to be printed upon and the fold thereof above the conveyor so that the signature is not then supported by the conveyor. Signature backing and aligning apparatus is provided opposite the printing station for receiving the fold of the raised signature or stack of signatures and for acting as a backing support therefor to stabilize and align the same as it moves past said printing station. In one form of the invention this apparatus includes the longitudinal edge of the signature raising plate which engages and forces the raised fold toward a backing wall.

  • Patent number: 4486736
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for assembling a thermally-actuated cut-off link having a casing, a closure, split along its length to form a slot, a power lead, one end of which extends from the casing through a neutral passage formed in the closure, the other end of which terminates in a pair of outwardly deformed, inwardly deformable contact arms forced into low-resistance contact with an inner conductive surface of the casing, a fusible pellet, and a spring-biased arm-deforming member which, responsive to deform the contact arms away from the inner conductive surface to interrupt the flow of current through the cut-off link. The closure is secured to the casing by crimping the casing to grippingly contact the power lead and to narrow the slot. Relatively viscous sealant, placed in an enlarged section of the closure passage is drawn into the narrowed slot by capillary action, and is thereafter cured.

  • Patent number: 4475283
Abstract: A fuse puller device comprises a pair of spaced confronting body portions respectively having confronting lower fuse-gripping jaw sections each formed by a wall terminating in a horizontally inwardly facing lip-forming projection adapted to underlie the overhung portion of a fuse housing head portion, the jaw sections respectively joining confronting finger-squeezable sections which effect a pivoting separation of the jaw sections when squeezed between the user's thumb and forefinger. The lip-forming projections have recesses which engage ribs on the fuse housing to center the fuse puller device. A fuse condition indicator unit mounted on the inner face of one of the jaw section walls has a pair of indicator terminals adapted to engage fuse continuity test terminals exposed on the head portion of the fuse housing to test whether or not there is continuity between the test terminals when the fuse puller device is applied over the head portion of the fuse.

  • Patent number: 4475783
Abstract: A configurable common terminal bus allows optional engagement of a preselected group of fuse terminals in a fuse holder array. One version of the bus permits substantial rotation of engaged rotatable fuse clip terminals. A breakaway array of fuse holders in conjunction with such a bus facilitates manufacture of fuse blocks with customized terminal groupings. The bus may be replaced after manufacture by one of different configuration to alter the common terminal grouping. The bus may be positioned to occupy a position below that occupied by the inserted fuses so as to be substantially shielded by the insulated portions of the fuse bodies from accidental contact with external objects.

  • Patent number: 4473285
Abstract: A camera is provided with flash lamp means, preferably a single flash lamp, useful for both range-determining purposes, for automatic focus control and/or flash lamp light exposure control, and in response to depression of the shutter release control, generates an initial range-determining flash of light and then a film exposure flash of light if flash exposure is desired. Before the shutter is opened, the range-determining flash of light reflected from the object involved is detected by a light sensor feeding the inputs of one or more signal level detectors respectively responsive to different peak levels of the reflected flash lamp light profiles indicating object distances falling within different adjacent range zones by being triggered into a given state. In the automatic focus control form of the invention, the outputs of the signal level detectors are scanned sequentially in the order where the signal level detectors responsive to profiles of objects in the nearest range zone are scanned first.

  • Patent number: 4460264
Abstract: An electronic timing circuit to be used in conjunction with photographic cameras using electronic exposure sensing and electrically actuated signal lights responsive to the exposure sensing causes automatic total electrical power shutdown if the camera is left unattended. No separate manual operation is necessary, the shutdown occurring within approximately half a minute after releasing the exposure button. Rundown of the camera battery via inadvertent failure of the operator to turn off the system is eliminated. The timer is turned on and system loads are connected in a latched state to the camera battery by partial depression of the exposure button. Adequate ambient illumination of the subject scene causes a photosensor to actuate a green signal light. Inadequate ambient illumination causes the photosensor to automatically actuate instead a red warning light and a flash tube charging circuit for a built-in flash tube, full charge being evidenced by reappearance of the green light.
