  • Patent number: 4448473
Abstract: An improved latching slotted beam terminal is disclosed having two slotted plates connected by a bight and folded into overlying position. One plate has relatively short, stiff arms defining a narrow conductor engaging slot. The other plate has relatively long, flexible arms defining a slot wider than the conductor and outwardly directed shoulders on the free ends of the tines. The wire gripping will be by the first plate and latching of an associated cover member by the second plate.

  • Patent number: 4448471
Abstract: A cover assembly formed by a pair of mating cover members interengage with the housing of an electrical connector and with each other to provide polarization/keying and latching for the connector as well as strain relief for the conductors leading from the connector. The covers together define conductor exiting which can be normal to or parallel to the mating face of the connector or any combination of exiting. The strain relief is provided by a known cable or bundle tie encircling the conductors and passing through belt loop extensions on one of the covers.

  • Patent number: 4443173
Abstract: Apparatus for dispensing individual inserts into proper position for subsequent molding operation includes a feed tube extending normal to the closing axis of the mold at the position of the insert and a feed track leading from a hopper to intersect the feed tube. A transfer pin associated with each feed tube, and secured to the molding mechanism, drives an insert from the feed track through the feed tube into position within the mold. A lever assembly in the mold, and actuated by the activation thereof, allows only a single insert to drop through the feed track for each closure of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4435035
Abstract: A connector assembly is disclosed for effecting mass insulation displacing termination of a plurality of conductors into a like plurality of terminals which are pre-loaded into a housing in a single aligned row. The subject connector assembly includes a housing having a plurality of terminal passages therein opening, in a forward direction, onto a mating face normal to the axes of the passages and, in a rearward direction, opening outwardly toward one side of the housing. A terminal is mounted in each passageway with a matable portion directed toward the mating face and an insulation displacing, conductor engaging portion lying in the outwardly open rear portion. The subject connector assembly also has a cover with one end edge engageable with the housing at the outward opening of the passageways and the other end enclosing the rear of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4431249
Abstract: A male/female or half tap connector is formed by a central lacing block and a pair of mating housing members. The lacing block has a plurality of conductor passages extending therethrough in a first direction and pairs of terminal passages extending therethrough in a second direction, each pair of terminal passages intersecting a respective conductor passage. The mating housing members together define a lacing block receiving cavity and oppositely directed mating profiles. Each housing member carries a plurality of terminals, each with an insulation piercing, conductor engaging portion directed toward the cavity and aligned to enter a respective terminal passage to engage a conductor and latch with the lacing block.

  • Patent number: 4428635
Abstract: A method and connector are disclosed for making a zero insertion force connection between mating members while providing a contact wiping action. The connector has a housing, a plurality of terminals mounted in the housing, a cam mounted for longitudinal movement in the housing and a cam follower mounted between the cam and each row of terminals. Movement of the cam from a first to a second position causes the terminals to open to receive the mating member, return movement to the first position allows the terminals to engage the mating member, movement to a third position causes a first wiping action by the terminals and return to the first position causes a reverse wiping action.

  • Patent number: 4426123
Abstract: A connector assembly is disclosed for effecting zero insertion force mating of projecting blade portions of terminals carried by a plug member with conductive holes in a circuit board or the like and enclosed in a header. The plug member has a housing, a plurality of terminals carried in the housing each with a blade portion projecting from a mating face and a conductor engaging portion, and hermaphroditic cover members enclosing a portion of the housing. The housing also has a cam surface and polarizing lugs. The header has means to mount it on a circuit board or the like with walls of the header forming a shroud around an array of conductive holes in the circuit board. A cam member is rotatably mounted in one end of the header to act on the plug member driving it transversely to bring the blades of the terminals into contact with the walls of the respective conductive holes.

  • Patent number: 4417736
Abstract: An improved sealing means is disclosed for use with high voltage rack and panel connectors. The subject sealing means is received in a cavity of a panel or ferrule member and forms a recess which closely receives a rigid portion of a mating rack or mate connector member. A further portion of the sealing means allows for some flow to compensate for misalignment of the rigid portions of the mating connector members due to inaccuracies resulting from practical molding processes and/or mounting configurations. The configuration of the seal assures that it will remain in the panel when the connector is unmated.

  • Patent number: 4415223
Abstract: An interlocking crimp sleeve is disclosed for application to a terminated connector so as to apply an annular crimp securing the cable and particularly the cable shielding thereto. The subject sleeve is formed as an initially flat strip of metal stock having pre-formed opposite ends of an interlocking configuration. The strip is applied to the connector by bending around the electrical cable, engaging the interlocking end configurations and crimping the thus formed substantially cylindrical sleeve to provide the desired clamping and compression of the cable and engagement between the cable shield and connector shield.
