  • Patent number: 5193604
Abstract: A process for the centrifugal casting of copper, copper alloys, or other oxygen sensitive alloys, such as bronze, is effective for avoiding or reducing the formation of an oxide layer on the inner surface of the casting. The process essentially consists of applying powdered borax in a layer thickness of 0.5 mm to 4 mm onto the still liquid inner surface of the casting immediately after pouring the casting. The preferred thickness of the borax is 1 mm to 3 mm. Finely divided mixtures of metals which have an affinity for oxygen, such Mg, Li, Ce, and/or powders of graphite and/or fire clay and/or charcoal, can also be combined with the borax as additional additives for special casting processes. Apparatus for introducing the borax into the mold includes a trough which is extendable into the interior of the mold. The trough is either rotatably supported in a housing that is movable relative to the mold, or pivotally supported along a bottom portion of a pouring tube which is movable relative to the mold.

  • Patent number: 5184481
Abstract: A novelty jewelry article and method of making same includes a swinging ornament which is suspended within a hoop. The hoop is hollow and has a seam along the inside edge thereof. A pair of holes are drilled along the seam a predetermined distance from each open end of the hoop. The seam above the holes is spread apart. A monofilament having metallic balls crimped to opposing ends thereof is assembled with the hoop wherein the balls are inserted into the open ends of the hoop until the filament reaches the drilled holes and stretches tautly across the hoop. The balls are then glued in place and end castings, one of which may include an earring post, are applied to the open ends of the hoop. • Patent number: 5181726
Abstract: A ball and elastic cord is affixed to a finger band so that the ball may be thrown, retrieved and paddled by a user's hand. A finger band comprising a strip wrapped about and secured to a finger by locking means such as frictional fabric pads hold the cord snugly about a finger. The cord is firmly secured while permitting adjustment of cord length by threading through apertures in stiffened plates on opposite sides of the strip. The ball in one embodiment has a fabric cover internally filled like a bean bag with plastic pellets and contains a semi-spherical internal cup anchor for securing the cord to the ball. An electronic circuit with a spring biased switch responds to a predetermined force threshold on the cord for signalling by audio or visual means identifying different balls to be used in various games. One or more photo-diode lamps thus can identify one of several balls or players directly or by means of shaped decals, etc.
