  • Patent number: 5454932
Abstract: A bottom open display case for jacketed cassettes wherein the jacket is retained in the display case which itself is of transparent plastics material. A base is attached to the bottom end of the display case and is slidable laterally from a closed position to an open position where an opening in the base aligns itself with the cassette in the display case allowing the cassette to be removed from the display case. A flexible tab on an end wall of the display case acts as a spring to return the base to its initial closed position where it is out of alignment with the cassette in the display case.

  • Patent number: 5353827
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for producing pasty paraffin from liquid paraffin comprises the use of an agitator for mixing the paraffin during its solidification within a receptacle. The viscosity of the paraffin is controlled by the monitoring of the power of a motor driving the agitator. Also, an apparatus is provided for producing candles in bottles from the pasty paraffin produced hereinabove. The apparatus comprises a filling head which receives the pasty paraffin and a continuous wick. A device is included for positioning a ferrule on the wick with the filling head being adapted for lowering into the bottle for positioning the ferrule at the bottom thereof and being also adapted to inject pasty paraffin in the bottle for setting the ferrule. The filling head is then retracted slowly from the bottle while injecting further paraffin therein for filling to a selected level the bottle.

  • Patent number: 5337770
Abstract: The invention relates to a collapsible umbrella having a canopy frame which s collapsible in an at least four-fold manner and a stick (1) which is telescopic in an at least four-stage manner as well as a slide (2) displaceable on this said stick for canopy opening and closing, the canopy linkage comprising a combination of link parallelograms (I, II, III) or lever formations, which is formed from a combination of hollow, U-shaped, flat and round-profiled rod material. In order to make the folded-together umbrella as compact as possible in its cross-section, the invention provides that all the link parallelograms insert into one another so completely, with optimum utilization of the available cavities of the U-profiled canopy rods, that there are no unused empty spaces in the folding bends (K1, K2, K3, K4) of the folded-together formation (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5327882
Abstract: A continuous motion device for the therapy and rehabilitation of a patient's hand and fingers comprises a splint adapted to be mounted to the patient's forearm and hand, a gear housing rotatably mounted around a reversible motor, with the reversible motor driving a gear mechanism provided in the gear housing. The gear mechanism driving a digit attachment member in a rotational movement therewith. When actuated, the reversible motor causes the gear housing to rotate about the axis of the motor with the digit attachment member counter-rotating relative to the gear housing about another axis spaced apart from and parallel to the motor axis, whereby the absolute motion of the digit attachment member and therefore of the patient's fingers follow a compound spiral. The compound spiral, depending on the ratios of the gears of the gear mechanism, can follow one of a series of multiple lobed compound spirals, having open or closed loops.

  • Patent number: 5303752
Abstract: A cutting tooth holder for circular saws used on felling heads. A plurality of the holders are mounted on a circular saw disk about its rim. Each holder has a clevis shape with the leg of the holder that is on top of the saw disk being relatively short compared to the length of the leg on the bottom of the saw. The short upper legs of the holders permit the use of a larger butt plate on the felling head to cover the saw.

  • Patent number: 5295661
Abstract: A knife valve comprises a body defining a valve seat and a knife blade longitudinally movable by a cylindrical stem in the body for opening and closing a lateral flow passage defined therethrough. The body includes a bonnet with the stem extending therethrough and with circular packing rings being disposed therein around the stem. The valve seat is located on a first side of the blade and in operative proximity thereto. The stem includes a lower head portion which defines an angular surface, whereas a top portion of the blade defines a slot forming an angular surface parallel to the angular surface of the stem head. The stem head is engageable in the slot with the angular surfaces thereof being in sliding contact. Therefore, when the blade is in its closed position, a longitudinal force exerted by the stem on the blade is transferred into a lateral force oriented towards the seat, thereby forcing the blade against the seat in a tight bidirectional seal under a positive torque.

  • Patent number: 5263601
Abstract: A cargo container is adapted to transport liquids and, alternatively, solid cargo which comprises a box-like housing having rigid side walls and an expansible vessel for containing the liquids mounted inside the box housing. The expansible vessels include a rigid fixed bottom wall, a rigid top wall extending parallel to the bottom wall, and a flexible impermeable sleeve forming side walls extending between the vessel bottom wall and the top wall. The top wall is adapted for movement within the box housing between a retracted position and an expanded position and to be raised by air pressure. Latches are provided to secure the vessel top wall in the expanded position to the box housing side walls, whereby the vessel can be filled with liquids. When in the retracted position, the top wall is close to the bottom wall with spacers on the bottom wall to support the top wall in the retracted position and to thus define a dead space to receive the retracted sleeve.

  • Patent number: RE34686
Abstract: A method, system and device for determining the quality of assembly of tool parts involves measurement of the rates of rotation of the tool parts or the torque imposed on the tool parts, or a combination thereof, followed by measurement of axial strain, or torsional strain, or hoop strain, or a combination thereof. The measured data are processed to determine the presence of a shoulder, seizing, seals, extreme hoop pressure, mismatched connections, and the like during assembly of the tool parts, thus assuring quality of assembly. The collected data are plotted versus time and displayed for the operator. The clamping device employed can be a one-part device for measuring hoop strain only, or can be a two-part device for measuring two or more of the aforementioned strain values.
