  • Patent number: 4998498
Abstract: A knockdown sailboat adapted to be stowed in a carrying case which includes inflatable hulls, a frame made up of longitudinal sectional tubular members connected securely to spaced-apart lateral tubular frame members, and a telescopic sectional mast stepped to the frame so formed. A carrying case is provided which is made up of two identical halves which serve as deck benches on each respective hull and provide a secure connection between the lateral frame members and the longitudinal frame members. Rigid tubular sectional shroud members are provided between the mast and the frame, and other rigging and spars are provided to make an operable sailboat. All of the spars, masts, and frame can be telescoped and stowed along with the deflated hulls into the carrying case formed by the two halves serving as deck benches.

  • Patent number: 4984387
Abstract: An adapter unit for mechanically driven doors of the type such as garage doors are driven by a motor and guided at the sides thereof by guide rails mounted to a frame that defines the door opening. The adapter unit comprises an elongated member adapted to be mounted to the back side of the door receiving channel of one of the guide rails. The elongated member defines an elongated inverted U-shaped channel in which a chain is slidably received. A sprocket is rotatably mounted in the elongated member within a circular recess defined in the channel for engagement with the chain. The sprocket is further adapted to centrally engage a shaft of the motor to thus rotate therewith. A door drive mechanism is mounted at one end of the chain and is adapted to be removably coupled to a bracket provided on an inner lower part of the door. The sprocket and chain are adapted to remain engaged between the two extreme positions of the chain which correspond with the open and closed positions of the door.

  • Patent number: 4979603
Abstract: A universal load sensing gearbox integrating a safety mechanism for use, for instance, with motor driven closures, such as garage doors, barriers and gates, includes a housing which encases a worm slidably mounted on an input shaft and adapted for rotation therewith. The input shaft is connected with the motor driving the closure. The worm is engaged with a worm gear which is mounted on an output shaft which is connected with the closure. Dished washers are provided generally around the input shaft at both ends of the worm to urge the worm in a central meshed engagement with the worm gear. A motion transmission device is provided on the worm and is adapted to slide therewith to detect a longitudinal movement thereof and to transmit this movement to an actuating device which is adapted to stop and/or reverse the motor.

  • Patent number: 4969655
Abstract: In a board for snow skiing comprising an elongated blow-molded plastic ski ody. The body includes a top and a bottom wall and reinforcements extending therebetween. First and second spaced apart bindings are mounted to the board for respectively receiving a front and a rear foot of a rider of the board. The bindings each comprise a pair of flexible plastic bands which are fixedly mounted at a first end part thereof to the board in a spaced and substantially parallel relationship. The bands also include at a second end part thereof a cooperating fastening device. Each binding also comprises a strap having each of two ends thereof attached to one of the bands for securing a back part of the foot of the rider to the binding.

  • Patent number: 4962966
Abstract: In a tailgate assembly for a dump box of the type comprising a front inner section and a rear outer section adapted for telescopic movement one with respect to the other with the inner section slidably engaging an interior surface of the outer section. The relative position of the inner and outer sections between an expanded and a collapsed position thereof is controlled by hydraulic cylinders. The tailgate assembly comprises a tailgate hingedly mounted to the rear of the outer section. A push rod has a front end thereof fixedly mounted at a front side of the inner section of the dump box. The push rod extends rearwards from its front end through a guide mounted on a sidewall of the outer section and towards the tailgate. A chain assembly connects a lower free end of the tailgate with a rear end of the push rod. The chain assembly is adapted to be in a substantially extended position thereof when the dump box is in its expanded position.

  • Patent number: 4957002
Abstract: A method, system and device for determining the quality of assembly of tool parts involves measurement of the rates of rotation of the tool parts or the torque imposed on the tool parts, or a combination thereof, followed by measurement of axial strain, or torsional strain, or hoop strain, or a combination thereof. The measured data are processed to determine the presence of a shoulder, seizing, seals, extreme hoop pressure, mismatched connections, and the like during assembly of the tool parts, thus assuring quality of assembly. The collected data are plotted versus time and displayed for the operator. The clamping device employed can be a one-part device for measuring hoop strain only, or can be a two-part device for measuring two or more of the aforementioned strain values.

  • Patent number: 4953870
Abstract: A tossable, tri-dimensional strategy-type game comprising a tri-dimensional body adapted to be tossed and caught during playing, the body including a playing surface enclosing the body with the playing surface being divided into distinct areas defining a regular pattern of at least first and second visually distinguishable surface areas. A plurality of flexible playing pieces are associated with at least the first surface areas, the playing pieces each having attachments for releasably attaching the playing pieces to selected surface areas with sufficient strength to retain the playing pieces attached to the selected surface areas during tossing while enabling the playing pieces to be manually detached from the selected surface areas. The strategy-type game according to the invention enables players to interact on a common tri-dimensional playing surface without the players being forced to remain in close proximity to one another while the game is in progress.
