  • Patent number: 5437144
Abstract: A packaging apparatus that compresses the contents in a vertical direction and tightly winds the contents. Upon the lowering of the elevator, compressive receiving plates project above the contents. The elevator is raised to hold the contents between the compressive receiving plates and the contents are compressed in the vertical direction. The winding guides approach each other, while the contents are being compressed. Both ends of the packaging sheet are connected by the fixing elements, and then the compressive receiving plates are pulled out.

  • Patent number: 5438202
Abstract: A system for recording fewer of the events that are caused by unwanted photons with greater stability. The system locally determines the energy spectrum and fits for each pixel of the image the determined energy spectrum with a modified trial function composed of: a photopeak component of known energy shape, Compton scatter components having theoretically derived energy shapes and, when applicable, also measured or calculated energy spectra of other unwanted photons. The modified trial function also takes into consideration unknown local deviations in the outputs of electronic components. The amplitude of the photopeak distribution resulting from the fit is used to obtain the local content of wanted interactions in the image. This enables removal of Compton contamination and also the contamination caused by interaction of the gamma photons with lead components.

  • Patent number: 5437157
Abstract: The cooling of a hot fluid is effected using a heat exchanger adapted to receive the hot fluid and liquid coolant for cooling the hot fluid such that the liquid coolant is vaporized. A turbine, having an output shaft connected to a fan, is responsive to vaporized coolant which expands in the turbine for driving the fan to move a mass of air, and produce vaporized coolant. A condenser receives the expanded vaporized coolant and is responsive to air blown by the fan, for condensing the expanded vaporized coolant thereby cooling the same and producing coolant condensate which is then returned to the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 5437545
Abstract: An apparatus for extruding a powdered material forms an elongated pellet. The extrusion apparatus includes a connection mechanism arranged between the inlet and the constriction passages for continuously connecting two successively charged portions of the powdered material when the powdered material is repeatedly charged. By this mechanism, the formerly charged and semicompacted portion of the powdered material and the border surface upon the subsequent portion are broken, either by a core piece or a modified die cavity, whereby the portions of the powdered material are merged with each other before the constriction.

  • Patent number: 5436728
Abstract: A light beam scanning system for use as a laser beam scanner in a laser beam printer has a polygonal mirror for deflecting a light beam emitted from a laser diode to scan a photosensitive drum with a scanning light beam. The scanning light beam is reflected by a mirror to a photodetector. In response to the reflected scanning light beam, the photodetector produces an output signal which is processed into a horizontal scanning signal to determine the timing to start writing information on the photosensitive drum with the scanning light beam. The photodetector has a detecting surface for receiving the reflected scanning fight beam. The detecting surface is oriented to prevent reflections therefrom of the reflected scanning light beam from traveling back to the light beam source through the mirror and the polygonal mirror.

  • Patent number: 5435688
Abstract: A bar-like article supplying apparatus is constructed such that a tray is carried in while remaining in an erected condition on a dolly, which moves intermittently. The tray is open at an upper face thereof and is turned over and fed to drop and supply bar-like articles from the tray into a supply port. Then, the inverted tray is turned over and fed so as to be returned into an erected condition and then is carried out to a dolly while remaining in the erected condition. After the tray is carried into an occupied tray turning over mechanism by a carrying-in mechanism, the occupied tray turning over mechanism is turned over, and consequently, the inverted tray is in an inverted condition just above the supply port so that supply of the bar-like articles is started. When the tray during such supplying is transferred to an empty tray turning over mechanism, the occupied tray turning over mechanism is turned over back to allow a next tray to be carried in.
