  • Patent number: 5063708
Abstract: A modular, foraminous ground cover for constructing custom floricultural grounds displays. Pre-shaped, fiberglass ground cover subassembly modules are provided with a plurality of discretely placed foramens which will accommodate therein the placement of seedlings or plants. The foramens are of varied sizes, with the larger susceptible of diminishment, during planting and plant growth and, enlargeable at harvest time. The subassembly modules are joinable to one another by tongue-in-groove margins that are straight edges interior of a display assembly; the outer border of the display is reinforced and is defined as its periphery. Where required for strength and pest protection, a flexible planar strip is attachable to the display periphery reinforcement and serves as an in-ground footing and rodent barrier.

  • Patent number: 5061284
Abstract: Artificial human hair follicles which encapsulate human hair ends and used for hair implantation. Human hairs are cleansed, the ends are then primed with a suitable silicone primer and up to two coatings are provided in order to form thereon a human hair follicle emulation that will be effacatious for the implantation of the treated hairs into the human derma. The artificial follicled human hairs may be implanted individually or in bundles of up to fourteen hairs with each hair strand and each bundle provided with a follicle-emulating bulbous root. In the preparation protocol, a single hair strand is first cleansed, the end is primed to receive a silicone polymer coating, a first coating is applied and before complete cure of the first coating, a second coating comprising a bulbous silicone elatomeric follicle is applied in such a fashion that the first coating will extend for a predetermined distance beyond the artificial follicle.

  • Patent number: 5062139
Abstract: A multi-driver, coaxially mounted loud speaker array utilizing a high frequency bi-morph driving element that is totally contained within the hollow core of the voice coil former of a lower frequency loud speaker. The outwardly radiating conical edge of the high frequency device's diaphragm is annularly fixed by a compliance to the inner surface of the referenced voice coil former or to the diaphragm which radiates outwardly therefrom and is excited by the former. A significant advancement in the art is acquired by the realization of a cavity between the situs of the bi-morph driving element and the back of the former--excited diaphragm, behind the annular compliance. This feature allows a design engineer to literally tune the response of the higher frequency loud speaker by deliberately varying the volume of the cavity.

  • Patent number: 5058870
Abstract: A clamping apparatus is disclosed which can clamp a workpiece in two non-parallel directions. The apparatus is made up of a pipe clamp having an attached adjustable height beam member which spans a significant portion of the pipe clamp's length. The beam member is attached to the pipe clamp by a "U"-bolt shaped retainer at one end and an eye-bolt shaped retainer at the other end. The beam member is sized so that it can be released from the "U"-bolt shaped retainer and thereby be allowed to pivot about the eye-bolt shaped retainer. A modified block structure is also disclosed which can be placed between the beam member and a workpiece being clamped.

  • Patent number: 5051026
Abstract: Obtainment of and control of specific asphalt paving densities during roadbed repair by preshaping hot mat top surfaces prior to compaction. Like a shaped munition charge, a preshaped top surface on recently laid hot asphalt mat transmits compaction forces in precalculable directions and carries therewith asphaltic materials so as to obtain desired finished paving densities. A conventional strike off bar is modified with base margin indentations which partially and wholely, according to desired specifications, grade or top dress hot asphaltic mat with desired, force-transmitting planes. Adjunct apparatus is employed by way of translating and rotating plates to partially or wholely cover the indentations so as to effect various, but differing, desired mat surface shapes. An improvement to the conventional vibrating screed is also employed to shape the initial asphaltic mat shape while simultaneously tamping the shape gradually into its desired and compacted final form.

  • Patent number: 5049199
Abstract: A preheater-potable water condenser for sap concentrating boiler-evaporators. A housing which contains a dual manifolded multitubular heat exchanger is fixed to, but removable from, the vertical vent stack of a hooded syrup concentrator-boiler. The preheater-condenser is an improvement over the state of the art because its vertical positioning, in conjunction with an inclined, ganged and multitubular heat exchanging array, presents a greater heat exchanger surface area to be exposed directly to the boiler exhaust, thus enhancing heat exchange efficiency. In addition to preheating the liquid which is to be concentrated to syrup, positioning above the hood (and away from the boiling and spattering base fluid) facilitates the use of the tubular array as a condenser by which to accumulate distilled water. An oblique (inclined) disposition of the tubular array aids the condensation and accumulation process, the latter being acquired in specially compartmented areas of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5038476
Abstract: A spoon with a bowl at one end, an internal duct from the bowl to the mouth end, and a widened lip at point of consumption. The bowl is shaped in the general form of a traditional spoon. The sipping spoon permits solid food or fluid to be carried in the bowl end of the spoon and transported to point of consumption; or, the spoon permits fluid being drawn through an internal conduit to the consumption point at the handle/mouth end of the spoon. The internal duct begins at the base/bowl of the spoon, extends up through the shaft, and ends at the lip of the spoon. An internal baffle eases continued draft by suction and prevents fluid flow when the baffle is in the quiescent state.

  • Patent number: 5018767
Abstract: A method and product, resulting from application of the method, for making images on a document that will not be replicated properly by electro-optical scanning and copying devices. Documents that cannot be replicated by known copying machines or other replicating devices are produced according to the invention method, as well as alternative methods. All of the methods disclosed herein are instructive for making the images and art work on such documents by forming lines into various patterns in a manner imitative of intaglio or gravure printing. The pitch of the lineations is deliberately selected so as to vary minutely from the pitch of the scanning trace of various copying machines such as photocopiers, video opticons, and the like. The variation in pitch may be obtained by deliberately manufacturing the document with the desired pitch or, subsequent to the image placement therein, altering the dimensions or geometry of the document so as to effectively skew the pitch parameter.

  • Patent number: 5019070
Abstract: A disposable and anatomically reversible undergarment shield for removable attachment to the inside of underpants. The undergarment shield is shaped like an hourglass and has a thick portion which is reversible between a front side and a rear side, depending upon whether the wearer is a girl or a body. Words, colors, or other appropriate symbols are placed upon the end borders of the shield to indicate which side forms the front for a girl and likewise for a body. For more rapid and effective absorption, a generally Y-shaped trough is formed in the thick side of the shield. Gathers at the periphery of the crotch region ensure a close fit, thereby preventing leaks. Adhesive strips are used to attach the shield to the undergarment.
