  • Patent number: 6278061
Abstract: A cable retaining mechanism has a hollow body containing a plurality of projections extending radially into the hollow cavity. The projections are spaced equidistantly from each other and have a resiliency such that each projection exerts equal retaining pressure on the cable passing through the hollow body. The equal pressure retains the cable in a central location within the hollow body. This allows for symmetrical application of a shrinkable protective layer to secure the cable and mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6278019
Abstract: The present invention is a method for acyloxylating an alkyl group substituted aromatic compound at the side chain, by letting the alkyl group substituted aromatic compound and a carboxylic acid and/or a carboxylic anhydride react with each other in the presence of an oxygen containing gas. In this case, if (1) a solid catalyst in which at least one selected from cobalt, cerium and manganese is supported on a solid material or (2) a catalyst containing at least one selected from cobalt oxides, cerium oxides and manganese oxides is used, an alkali group substituted aromatic compound and a carboxylic acid and/or a carboxylic anhydride can be caused to react with each other efficiently in the presence of an oxygen containing gas, and in addition the catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction solution. Furthermore, (3) a compound diacyloxylated at the side chains can be highly selectively produced if a cerium compound is used as a catalyst in the absence of a cobalt compound and a manganese compound.

  • Patent number: 6268712
Abstract: A method for determining the starting ability of the starter battery in a motor vehicle. The current and voltage of the storage battery are measured before starting is begun, shortly after starting is begun and at short intervals of time during the starting procedure. The current/voltage value pairs for each instant are used to calculate a resistance value and the quantity of charge drawn from the storage battery, and the rate of rise in the resistance values as a function of the quantity of charge drawn is used to derive a measure of the availability of the storage battery during the starting procedure. In particular, the gradient &Dgr;RQ of the internal resistance as a function of the quantity of charge drawn and the turn-on internal resistance RE are stored in an arithmetical memory as a field as a function of the charge state or of the equivalent no-load voltage (UR) and the battery temperature and are compared with already recorded values or typical normal values.
