  • Patent number: 6804625
Abstract: A method is provided for detecting and locating anomalies in soil subjacent to an existing structure. Electrodes are placed into the soil both outside the structure and through the structure's foundation. Electrical resistivity data is collected using these electrodes. This electrical resistivity data is analyzed to create an electrical resistivity map or model. Inspection of the map or model can allow the operator to detect and locate resistivity anomalies which may correspond to geological anomalies in the soil. In alternative embodiment, one or more soil samples are taken from the soil adjacent to the existing structure. Laboratory resistivity measurements are performed on the soil samples to provide a set of baseline resistivity data. A resistivity map or model is produced as described above. This resistivity map or model is compared to the baseline values provided by the laboratory resistivity measurements of the soil samples to detect and locate resistivity and geological anomalies.

  • Patent number: 6796113
Abstract: A guard and dolly for mounting a line trimming apparatus and maintaining the rotating spool or cutting element of the line trimming apparatus in a selected orientation with respect to the ground, in order to cut grass at a selected height above the ground regardless of the contour of the terrain, trim the grass adjacent to a structure such as a fence and edge along fixed structures such as a driveway or sidewalk. In a first embodiment a guard is provided with a tab-and-slot opening for receiving and mounting a corresponding motor coupling flange attached to the line trimming apparatus motor or frame. In a second embodiment, a universal dolly is characterized by a frame provided with front, rear and side wheel receptacles for receiving two or three wheels at selected receptacle locations and supporting the dolly frame in rolling relationship in a horizontal plane on a lawn for operation of the line trimmer in mowing, trimming and edging configurations.

  • Patent number: 6786517
Abstract: A novel concentric pipe joint restraint is disclosed. The restraint is specifically designed to resist axial movement of an inner spigot pipe relative to an outer socket pipe with which it has been joined. The restraint, which operates within the annulus, generally comprises a spigot wedge ring, a socket wedge ring, and one or more specially designed wedge housings. The spigot wedge ring features one or more spigot gripping protrusions which, upon contact, frictionally engage the spigot pipe. The socket wedge ring similarly features one or more socket gripping protrusions which, upon contact, frictionally engage the socket pipe. The wedge housings position the spigot wedge ring and/or the socket wedge ring so that the gripping protrusions grip the pipes, preventing axial movement (whether separation or compression).

  • Patent number: 6724861
Abstract: A method and apparatus for disseminating emergency warning information via a telecommunication network via a telecommunication network is disclosed. After a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) has decided to issue a warning regarding an impending emergency to a specific area, the LEPC dials a group emergency telephone number to issue a warning to any subscriber of the group emergency telephone number. The warning, which may be audio and/or visual, informs the subscriber of the impending emergency and/or the necessary actions that needs to be taken by the subscriber. By sending the warning via a telecommunication network, a large number of people can be contacted with specific details of the impending emergency within a short period of time.
