Abstract: A spark ignition timing control system for an automotive vehicle internal combustion engine utilizes a first sensor for detecting engine speed, a second sensor for detecting engine knocking and a third sensor for detecting transmission upshifting. The control system operates in response to the first, second and third signals to retard the spark advance angle to reduce knocking due to change in engine speed upon engine upshift.

Abstract: The upper retainer for retaining an upper portion of a valve spring is shaped like a perforated spinning top and is axially dividable into two identical elements which are coaxially disposed about the upper portion of the valve stem when assuming its operative condition. The retainer has, when assuming the operative position, a configuration which comprises a collar portion which is sized to be coaxially disposed within an upper portion of the valve spring, an annular flange portion extending radially outward from the upper end of the collar portion and engaging with the upper end of the valve spring, and means for achieving a spline connection between the central portion of the retainer and the upper portion of the valve stem.

Abstract: A screw press for extracting liquids from liquid-solid mixtures continuously and in a single operation. The press comprises a barrel divided into a feed section and a pin-barrel section. A rotatable screw is disposed in the barrel. Grooves are provided in the feed section to ensure a good feed input and hence an economical throughput, the pin-barrel section including radial pins extending into the barrel which, together with the rotation of the screw cause a high pressure to build up in the barrel thereby comminuting the mixture. The screw has helical flights formed thereon, the flights defining ridges, radial bores being formed in the ridges which communicate with an axial bore formed in the screw permitting the draining away the extracted liquid directly from the region in which it is extracted.
