Abstract: A process is disclosed for the production of a blended smectite clay with enhanced rheology, particle size restriction and reduced abrasion characteristics which is useful for the coating of paper. The process comprises slurrying of a predominantly sodium smectite clay, slurrying a predominantly calcium smectite clay, degritting of the clay slurries to remove coarse grained impurities, removing a substantial portion of the undesirable soluble salts from the clay slurries, fractionating the clay slurries to control particle size of the smectite clays in the slurry and blending together the predominantly sodium smectite clay slurry with the predominantly calcium smectite clay slurry to form a blended clay slurry.
Abstract: Positron annihilation radiation lineshapes from two-dimensional angular correlation and Doppler broadened spectrum measurements are used to monitor specific surface acidity (proton concentration per unit surface area) of catalytic materials with large internal surface areas. Annihilation gamma lineshape parameter increases with internal surface area and decreases with specific surface acidity as a result of oxidation of positronium atoms at the surface by protons. These results point to a new and effective method for specific surface acidity valuations.
Abstract: A magnetically actuated coupling and uncoupling system for model railroads comprised of a drawbar pivotally-mounted to one end of a railroad car, wherein the drawbar contains an integral leaf spring extending from the first end of the coupler to tend to center the drawbar, a coupler body with cantilever springs secured to the second end of the drawbar, a magnetically-actuated post pivotally-secured to the drawbar extending downward from the drawbar, and a pivotally-mounted coupler knuckle secured to the post and pivotally secured to the drawbar such that the pivotally-mounted coupler knuckle will interact with the cantilever spring.
Abstract: A guiding introducer for in the left atrium comprised of a first, second and third section wherein the first section is a generally elongated straight section wherein merged with the distal end of the first section is a second section which is curved in a compound curve, first curving upward in a first longitudinal curve and simultaneously curving to the right in a second longitudinal curve, wherein the second section merges with the third section wherein said third section is a third longitudinal curve wherein the plane of the third section is angled upward at an angle of approximately 25 to about 60 degrees from the plane of the first section and wherein substantially all of the third section is coplanar.

Abstract: A detergent additive for commercial detergents (softener agents) that contain fabric softeners is described. This additive is based on agglomerates of a smectic laminar silicate coated with divided particles. This detergent additive is characterized in that the agglomerates are at least partially coated with particles of a cation exchanger that will pass through a screen with a mesh of about 45 .mu.m and have an average particle size of less than about 10 .mu.m, where the amount of cation exchanger particles is about 2 to 30 wt % (based on the dry weight of the uncoated agglomerates). This detergent additive may be used in the conventional detergent formulations.
