Abstract: In a fluid-pressure operated anti-skid braking system operation of a brake-applying relay valve is controlled by control pressure in an application chamber. A memory chamber is connected to the application chamber through a one-way valve and an orifice permits pressure in the memory chamber to decay into the application chamber when the pressure in the application chamber reduces. Re-application of the brakes following a skid is controlled by closure of a latch valve which permits only a restricted flow of control pressure into the application chamber. This is sufficient to re-apply the brakes rapidly in a first stage until the pressure in the application chamber becomes equal to that of the decayed pressure in the memory chamber, whereafter brake re-application continues at a slower rate since the restricted flow of control pressure has also to increase the pressure in the memory chamber.

Abstract: In the casting of cosmetics, such as lipstick material into open-topped molds which may, be associated with or placed within inverted containers, the molds are, after casting, passed beneath downwardly directed jets of heated air which impinge on the surface of the cosmetic material to counteract piping and they may also be passed beneath downwardly directed jets of cooled air to hasten setting.
Abstract: In a reservoir assembly for a tandem master cylinder of a hydraulic braking system the container is separated into compartments by at least one baffle passages being provided for permitting limited communication between the compartments past the baffle. The arrangement is such that when the container is installed in a vehicle and the brakes are applied, the tendency of fluid to transfer from one compartment to another is resisted. The arrangement also ensures that even under the worst conditions of deceleration and altitude of the vehicle there will be a sufficient volume of fluid in the compartments to cover outlets to the master cylinder and thus sustain subsequent brake application.
Abstract: A slinger arrangement whereby the lubricating oil supplied to a bearing of a turbine shaft may be prevented from being sucked through one or more seal rings into a blower when the pressure in the blower becomes negative.According to one embodiment of the present invention, the slinger consists of a large- and small-diameter sections, and a first seal ring is fitted into a circumferential groove formed in the large diameter section and contacts the lower end of first and second air vent chamber casings which is remote from a fan wheel, the first and second casings being axially spaced apart from each other and cooperating to define an air vent chamber, while a second seal ring is fitted into a circumferential groove formed in the small-diameter section and contacts the lower end of the other air vent chamber casing which is closer to the fan wheel. A circumferential oil throwing groove may be formed in the large-diameter section between the first and second seal rings.
Abstract: In a can-like container for a cylindrical metal or ceramic substrate body for a catalyst for exhaust emission control, a locating element within the can at least at one end of the body has prongs which, on assembly of the can around the body, are forced into the end face of the body to prevent rotation of the body within the can during subsequent use.
Abstract: A vacuum carburizing furnace wherein the concentration of carburizing gas in the furnace atmosphere as well as the furnace pressure may be maintained within predetermined ranges for optimum carburization, and the carburizing atmosphere is forced to circulate by a fan within the heating chamber so that parts or articles may be uniformly carburized.
Abstract: A mounting device for attaching a decorative object to a support, said device comprising a U-shaped clamp carrying said decorative object, a pair of U-shaped packing members secured to the clamp within the opening thereof, said packing members embracing a support, and a U-shaped cover secured to said clamp.
Abstract: In a reservoir comprising a container for liquid at least one portion of the top wall of the container is depressed to form a window, the depressed portion and at least a part of the surrounding area being transparent or translucent so that the reservoir can be filled with a liquid until the liquid is in visible contact on the under surface of the window with the surrounding part untouched.
Abstract: An assembly of vertically stacked slabs is provided, any number of which are adapted to be placed beneath the low wheel of a camper trailer or other vehicle to level the vehicle. The slabs are separably connected to provide a portable unitary kit, and at one end of the kit each slab is tapered from its upper to its bottom surface, and the tapered surfaces of all of the slabs form an inclined ramp.

Abstract: The present specification describes and claims a method and apparatus for cutting elongate material into predetermined lengths. The apparatus comprises a cutting assembly including a cutter wheel having a number of spaced apart knife edges projecting radially outwardly in the region of its periphery. Winding means are provided for winding successive layers of material to be cut in contact with the knife and a pressure wheel forces the material onto the knife edges as the cutter wheel rotates. Press nip rollers are arranged to feed the material to the cutter wheel and both the cutter wheel and the press nip rollers are driven by the same motor.
Abstract: Disclosed is a hydraulic servomechanism including a control loop consisting of an input device, an adder-amplifier, a servovalve, a cylinder or actuator and a load operatively connected in the order named for controlling the position of the load, a position feedback loop and an acceleration feedback loop. In one embodiment of the invention, the hydraulic servomechanism further includes a feedback loop wherein an output from an accelerometer or pressure sensor for detecting a differential pressure across a piston in the cylinder and an error signal from the adder-amplifier are arithmetically processed and fed back to the adder-amplifier.
Abstract: In a container assembly for an exhaust emission control catalyst for internal combustion engines, of the kind comprising a cylindrical substrate body carrying the catalyst and mounted within a sheet metal casing with the interposition of a compressible cushioning layer of refractory material, an open-seam sheet metal shroud of variable circumference is used to enclose the compressible layer and to compress it prior to, or simultaneously with, endwise insertion into the casing. The shroud or the casing may have elongated ribs pressed in it, the ribs tapering at their ends to facilitate entry.
Abstract: A two-stage toilet flush mechanism is provided in which operation of the usual control lever to a yieldable manually-felt detent point produces a partial flush the duration of which is controlled by the position of first float with respect to the initial water level in the storage tank, and movement of the lever beyond the detent point produces a complete flush the duration of which is controlled by the position of a second float with respect to the initial water level.
Abstract: A sealing member for sealing an axially movable face seal member to an associated component comprises an annular body of graphite or other predominantly carbon-containing material of U-shape or C-shape in cross-section formed around a supporting annular core.
Abstract: The invention provides a pair of bodies with operative faces that can be brought face to face. The operative face of one body is formed with a row of circular openings of uniform diameter and spaced uniformly apart. The operative face of the other body has a row of locating formations which may also comprise a row of circular openings similar to those in said one body. The openings and formations are together such as to define a passageway for receiving and locating a helical wire of pitch equal to the spacing between the centers of the openings in said one body. The helical wire can be advanced axially relative to the bodies by rotating it about its own axis.
Abstract: In a fluid pressure-operated anti-skid braking system for vehicles, operating fluid from a supply is supplied to the wheel brake through a fluid-flow control valve interposed between the supply and the brake. A deceleration responsive device responsive to a skid signal is incorporated for operating the control valve to relieve the brake pressure of the fluid supplied to the brake when the deceleration of the wheel is excessive and exceeds a pre-determined value. A memory for storing a memory pressure dependant on the brake pressure at a skid is incorporated, and the memory pressure operates the control valve directly during a first stage of brake re-application, and provides a changeover point between first and second stages of brake re-application. The second stage comprises continued re-application but at a reduced rate of pressure increase.
