Abstract: To sight-In a gun—especially a rifle (10)—it has to be held in the same position while it is fired at least twice, the gunsight (14) being adjusted after the first shot so that the gun sight shows the gun aimed at the point of impact of the first shot on the target. Apparatus to hold the gun while sighting-in is performed has a base (16) on which an elogate support frame (40) is mounted. The support frame (40) carries a rear stock clamping arrangement, with which clamping members (21) firmly hold the rear stock (11) of the gun. A gun barrel (13) or front stock (12) locating arrangement (30,31,32,34,37,39), also carried by the support frame, ensures that the front stock (or barrel) of the gun can be repositioned (if it has not been clamped) in the same position after a shot has been fired. Mounting blocks (115, 116) clamped to the base (16) include means to make fine adjustments of the lateral pointing of the gun.
Abstract: A fluorescent agent accumulation concentration measuring apparatus is configured to include a single-wavelength LED to radiate excitation light to a test bottle loaded in the inside, a barrier filter to transmit only fluorescence from the test bottle, a photoreceptor to receive the fluorescence through the barrier filter and output an electric signal, a detection processing circuit to conduct signal processing of the electric signal from the photoreceptor and detect the fluorescence intensity, and an operation circuit 26 to compare the detection result from the detection processing circuit with an analytical pattern stored in a pattern storage portion and calculate the peak time of the accumulation concentration in a tissue of a sample in the test bottle.
Abstract: An interconnect structure including a gouging feature at the bottom of a via opening and a method of forming the same are provided. The method of the present invention does not disrupt the coverage of the deposited trench diffusion barrier in a line opening that is located atop the via opening, and/or does not introduce damages caused by creating a gouging feature at the bottom of the via opening by sputtering into the interconnect dielectric material that includes the via and line openings. Such an interconnect structure is achieved by providing a gouging feature in the bottom of the via opening by first forming the line opening within the interconnect dielectric, followed by forming the via opening and then the gouging feature.

Abstract: The present invention relates to computer-based systems and methods for visual signal extrapolation or interpolation based on statistic similarity estimation. Specifically, a first and a second reference pictures are provided, and motion estimation is conducted on the first and second reference pictures to generate motion vectors indicative of movement of at least one of the first and second reference pictures in relation to the other. Subsequently, an estimate picture is generated by extrapolation or interpolation from the first and/or the second reference picture using the motion vectors, followed by optional refinement of the estimate picture. Statistic similarity estimation is used either in motion estimation or in refining the estimate picture, or a combination of both, so as to provide improved visual signals.

Abstract: A semiconductor-containing heterostructure including, from bottom to top, a III-V compound semiconductor buffer layer, a III-V compound semiconductor channel layer, a III-V compound semiconductor barrier layer, and an optional, yet preferred, III-V compound semiconductor cap layer is provided. The barrier layer may be doped, or preferably undoped. The III-V compound semiconductor buffer layer and the III-V compound semiconductor barrier layer are comprised of materials that have a wider band gap than that of the III-V compound semiconductor channel layer. Since wide band gap materials are used for the buffer and barrier layer and a narrow band gap material is used for the channel layer, carriers are confined to the channel layer under certain gate bias range. The inventive heterostructure can be employed as a buried channel structure in a field effect transistor.

Abstract: There is provided a method of driving an ultrasonic motor configured so that two alternating voltages having a predetermined difference between respective phases and having predetermined drive frequencies are applied to a laminated piezoelectric body that has driving parts abutting a member to be driven, whereby simultaneous excitation of vertical and bending vibrations and hence excitation of an elliptical vibration occur in the piezoelectric body, and the driving parts receiving drive force from the elliptical vibration drive the driven member. The method includes performing wear particle removal drive at a fixed frequency during regular reciprocal drive so as to intermittently interrupt the regular drive, the regular drive being such that the driving parts repeatedly reciprocally drive the driven member within a predetermined range, and the wear particle removal drive being such that the driving parts reciprocally drive the driven member within a removal drive range wider than the predetermined range.

Abstract: Desired spectral characteristics are attained by making reflection films close enough. A variable spectroscopy device (1) has a pair of optical substrates (2, 3) opposing each other with an interval therebetween, two reflection films (5) opposing each other which are respectively disposed on opposing surfaces of the optical substrates (2, 3), two sensor electrodes (6) opposing each other which are disposed on the same surfaces as the reflection films (5) and which constitute an interval sensor for detecting an interval between the optical substrates (2, 3), and an actuator (4) which relatively moves the optical substrates (2, 3) and changes the interval between the optical substrates (2, 3). A distance between the opposing surfaces of the two sensor electrodes (6) is longer than a distance between the opposing surfaces of the two reflection films (5).
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved amorphization/templated recrystallization (ATR) method for fabricating low-defect-density hybrid orientation substrates. ATR methods for hybrid orientation substrate fabrication generally start with a Si layer having a first orientation bonded to a second Si layer or substrate having a second orientation. Selected regions of the first Si layer are amorphized and then recrystallized into the orientation of the second Si layer by using the second Si layer as a template. The process flow of the present invention solves two major difficulties not disclosed by prior art ATR methods: the creation of “corner defects” at the edges of amorphized Si regions bounded by trenches, and undesired orientation changes during a high temperature post-recrystallization defect-removal annealing of non-ATR'd regions not bounded by trenches.

Abstract: A hollow tissue inosculation apparatus is to inosculate two hollow tissues to each other with a staple having a plurality of elastically deformable bent staple pins. The hollow tissue inosculation apparatus includes a staple holder to hold the staple, a curvature control mechanism to control curvature of the staple pins of the staple held in the staple holder, and a gap control mechanism to control gaps of the hollow tissues with respect to the staple holder. The curvature control mechanism substantially straightens the staple pins. The gap control mechanism reduces the gaps to cause the substantially straightened staple pins to penetrate the hollow tissues. The curvature control mechanism and the gap control mechanism are independent from each other.
