The retaining means may include stiffening means wherein the support means releasably holds the stiffening means and the glove supported thereby. It is also preferred that the stiffening means includes a ring assembly (14) comprising two rings which fit closely one inside the other such that when the opening of the glove is fitted over the inner ring, the outer ring may be tightly engaged about the inner ring to clamp the opening of the glove between the two rings.

    Abstract: Blood samples are stabilized for methemoglobin determination with a buffer composition containing (a) carbon monoxide-containing water; (b) sodium tetraborate or potassium tetraborate; and (c) KCN or NaCN. The buffer composition preferably may also have an erythrocytolysis agent. The buffer fixes the valence state of heme iron at a concentration representative of the blood at the time of collection, and maintains that fixed state for an extended period of time preventing further methemoglobin formation. The buffer also prevents reduction of existing target analyte, i.e., methemoglobin (ferric hemoglobin, Fe3+ hemoglobin) to normal reduced hemoglobin (ferrous hemoglobin, Fe2+ hemoglobin).

    Abstract: An assembly for use with a compact fluorescent lamp includes a socket and an adapter. Provided on the top surface are a plurality of spaced apart holes, each hole being positioned to receive one of the terminal pins of the fluorescent lamp. The adapter is designed to connect the compact fluorescent lamps having different types of base configurations with the socket. The adapter includes a base from which a starter housing and a plurality of terminal pins extend downward. The starter housing is positioned to be telescopically received by the recess of the socket. The starter housing is surrounded by the terminal pins that are positioned away from one another in order to be inserted in the spaced apart holes of the socket.

Additional amounts of vinylidene fluoride and initiator are fed to the reaction medium to continue polymerization of the vinylidene fluoride monomer until from about 50% to about 90% of the total weight of the vinylidene fluoride monomer utilized in the process has been added to the reaction medium.

    Abstract: The invention includes a method of phosphorylating a serine containing substrate by incubating the substrate with ATP and an enzyme that is hsRec2 or muRec2 or a derivative thereof. The natural substrates of the kinase activity of Rec2 are the cell cycle control proteins such as p53 and cyclin E. The over expression of Rec2 is known to cause cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis and the invention discloses that these effects are kinase mediated. Accordingly, the invention provides a method of assessing antagonists and agonists of Rec2, which antagonists and agonists would have pharmacological activity. The invention further discloses that there is specific binding between hsRec2 and at least three cell cycle control proteins: p53, PCNA and cdc2.
