  • Patent number: 6168053
Abstract: Apparatus and method accomplishes the precision pouring of a liquid from a vessel to a predetermined position with a controlled rate of flow. Independently controllable horizontal and vertical translation of the vessel is accomplished by using two rotational elements lying in substantially parallel planes, with the rotational axis of the second element passing through the first element, and having offset first and second axes of rotation. Independently controlled tilting of the vessel about a third axis of rotation that passes through the second element maintains a desired pour rate and aim point for the pour stream. The apparatus is particularly useful when the vessel and the receptacle that receives the liquid are inside a sealed chamber.

  • Patent number: 6157752
Abstract: The present invention provides a fiber optic link utilizing asymmetric homodyne modulation and balanced detection to achieve a very high dynamic range. The link uses a Mach Zehnder Modulator to generate a double-sideband suppressed-carrier signal from a laser light signal of a carrier frequency and a modulating signal at a modulating frequency. The laser light signal is phase shifted and injected into the double-sideband suppressed-carrier signal. Two signals are generated wherein the fundamental components are out-of-phase. The two signals are input to a balanced receiver wherein the one signal is subtracted from the other, resulting in the fundamental components adding, thereby providing an improved fundamental signal.

  • Patent number: 6143719
Abstract: Thrombin-induced and ADP-induced platelet and other cell activation is inhibited without affecting thrombin's other proteolytic activity by administration of a bradykinin sequence related analogous peptide. Bradykinin analogs are peptides to which substitutions, additions or deletions have been made to the first four amino acids of the amino acid sequence of native bradykinin. The bradykinin analogs described inhibit .alpha.-thrombin-induced and ADP-induced platelet activation and secretion, inhibit .alpha.-thrombin-induced calcium mobilization, and prevent .alpha.-thrombin from cleaving its platelet receptor. The bradykinin analogs may comprise single- or multiple-chain peptides.
