  • Patent number: 6632330
Abstract: A process for the recovery of substantially pure alkyl alkanoate, such as ethyl acetate, from an impure feedstock. The impure feedstock is contacted with a selective hydrogenation catalyst in the presence of hydrogen in a selective hydrogenation zone maintained under selective hydrogenation conditions effective for selective hydrogenation of impurities containing reactive carbonyl groups thereby to hydrogenate the impurities to the corresponding alcohols. After recovery from the selective hydrogenation zone of a selectively hydrogenated reaction product mixture including the alkyl alkanoate and the corresponding alcohols, this is distilled in one or more distillation zones so as to produce substantially pure alkyl alkanoate therefrom which is recovered.

  • Patent number: 6632950
Abstract: Novel processes and intermediates are provided for the synthesis of derivatives of 4-amino-3-hydroxypyrrole-2-carboxylic acids that are useful as monomers for polyamides capable of binding dsDNA. According to one preferred reaction scheme, an alkyl alkoxymethylene nitroacetate (Formula VIII) is prepared by reaction of a trialkyl orthoformate or orthoacetate with a nitroacetate ester in the presence of a carboxylic anhydride. The compound of Formula VIII is condensed with an N-substituted glycine to yield an N-substituted (2-nitro-2-alkoxycarbonyl)vinyl glycinate ester (Formula VII). Ring closure in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide yields a 4-nitro-3-hydroxypyrrole-2-carboxylic ester (Formula V). After blocking of the 3-hydroxy group to produce a further intermediate (Formula IV), the 4-nitro group is reduced to a 4-amino group (Formula III), and the 4-amino group is then blocked by reaction with a dicarbonate diester to produce the fully blocked intermediate (Formula II).

  • Patent number: 6631877
Abstract: A surveying equipment support leg used with a support for supporting surveying equipment and the like is capable of mounting alternate ground engaging structures without removal of an existing foot on the leg. Attachment of the alternate structure is made rigidly at two points of connection on the foot. Other accessories such as weights to hold down the support can be attached. In particular, a spike may be attached to deeply penetrate the ground for use in certain soil conditions. The foot is molded and accurately adhered to the leg. As used together with other legs in a support, the foot is capable of attaching the legs together in a collapsed position for storage and transport of the support. The leg is connected to a head of the support in a sealed hinge which prevents damage to the hinge resulting in loss of rigid stability to the support.

  • Patent number: 6633794
Abstract: A software program for analyzing an embroidery design of stitches which design will be used by an embroidery machine to create an embroidered fabric. Grid software divides the embroidery design to be analyzed into a plurality of grid sections. Identifying software identifies each grid section having a stitch which is partially or completely underlying another stitch. Modification software removes underlying stitches or a portion thereof in each identified grid section. The size of each grid section may be increased or decreased in proportion to a stretch of the thread to be used to create the embroidered fabric.

  • Patent number: 6621051
Abstract: A MIG welding torch reconditioning apparatus has a pneumatic supply line, vent means and a mechanical transmission shaft. The pneumatic supply line supplies air to the vent means for venting a directed debris-scattering air-flow against the transmission shaft proximal to exposed seals thereon. In another aspect, the apparatus has an in-line, direct-drive arrangement of a motor, a mechanical transmission shaft, and chuck means for receiving a reaming tool. Pneumatic lift means lifts the direct-drive arrangement into reaming tool engagement with the gas shield of a torch wherein the tool is operable to remove at least some of any back-splash deposits laid down on interior surfaces of the gas shield. A clamp is also provided for engaging a cylindrical body, such as a torch. The clamp includes a pair of generally orthogonally-offset faces of a “V”-block and respective gripping surfaces on gripping surface members of a pair of opposed jaws.

  • Patent number: 6618688
Abstract: A process and device for determining absolute position by means of two coupled individual sensors which in the measuring range generate saw tooth-shaped output signals with a number of periods (k1 and k2) varying by “1,” and use of a third sensor, which in the measuring range also generates a saw tooth-shaped output signal with a third number of periods (k3) in which k3 differs from k1 and k2 by the absolute value ½. If the first or second sensor fails, a differential signal is generated between the output signal of the remaining functional sensor and the third sensor.
