  • Patent number: 5448836
Abstract: Apparatus for placing a mark on the spine of a tape cassette at a location therealong corresponding to the length of the selection on the tape in which cassettes successively loaded with the selection from a pancake tape having the same selection recorded thereon a plurality of times are passed to a marking station at which a marking device is moved from a home position to a second position spaced therefrom by a distance equal to the length of the selection in response to the loading of a selection into an empty cassette. The marking device is actuated in response to movement of a cassette into the marking station with its spine extending in a direction from the home position toward the second position of the marking device. The exhausting of the pancake tape is sensed to return the marking device to its home position.

  • Patent number: 5440798
Abstract: A method of making a concave aspheric mold insert by electroplating nickel over a silver release agent coating on an aspheric surface formed in a copper substrate to form a master having a convex surface which is a negative image of the aspheric surface. After the master has been separated from the substrate its convex surface is coated with a silver release agent and electroplated with nickel to form an element having a concave surface which is a replication of the aspheric surface and the opposite surface of which is convex. After the convex surface of the element has been trued to spherical shape, a slightly oversize spherical D-seg is formed in the aspheric surface. The aspheric surface is then trued to reduce the D-seg to final size to produce the insert. A number of elements are formed from the master and are provided with D-segs of different radii.

  • Patent number: 5433590
Abstract: In a cooling device for a rotary piston compressor, in particular a screw-type compressor, which is part of a refrigerant circuit together with a condenser and an evaporator, coolant of the refrigeration system and oil serving to lubricate bearings as well as to cool and seal the screw-type compressor are injected into the screw-type compressor. In order to cool the oil serving to lubricate the compressor bearings separately and to thereby achieve a more economical functioning of the entire cooling device, it is suggested that only the part of the oil serving to lubricate the bearings of the compressor is cooled as a function of the oil temperature sensed behind the bearings and that a branched stream of coolant is used for this, the stream on its part subsequently being fed to the compressor again.

  • Patent number: 5421997
Abstract: A sleeve filter centrifuge comprises between the closed end wall of a centrifugal drum and a base portion movable relative to this end wall a flexible, extendible dividing wall, for example in the form of a bellows or a folded membrane. This dividing wall provides a seal between a displacing shaft bearing the base portion and the inner chamber of the centrifugal drum accommodating the suspension and prevents any exchange of substances, which, for example, impairs sterilization, between the process area of the centrifugal drum and the machine frame side of the sleeve filter centrifuge.

  • Patent number: 5402895
Abstract: A system for facing currency notes of a stack of notes, each of which is printed with magnetic ink on only the face thereof in which notes from the stack are moved one by one along a path past an examining location at which magnetic heads examine the respective sides of a note for the presence of magnetic material to produce first and second signals which are integrated over the period of time for which a note is at the location. The integrated first and second signals are compared to produce a facing signal which directs the notes to one or the other of two output trays in accordance with the disposition of the note faces toward one or the other of the path sides.

  • Patent number: 5396661
Abstract: A helmet visor operating mechanism in which springs urge the rolling elements of respective pairs of rolling elements toward relatively smaller radial dimension spaces between a brake ring carried by the visor and an axle carried by the helmet shell to lock the visor against movement toward its raised position and against movement toward its lowered position. Respective actuators mounted for rotary movement on the axle have pairs of tangs extending into the space between the axle and the ring and between the rolling elements of the respective pairs. Outwardly extending tabs can be squeezed together to cause the tangs to move the rolling elements of the pairs away from each other against the action of the springs to unlock the visor and permit it to be raised or lowered by subsequent movement of the tabs in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 5341408
Abstract: A currency counter for counting currency notes withdrawn from a supply and advancing the notes one by one along a path past a density detector and a magnetic material detector to a stacker at a delivery location upon energization of a common drive motor in which an amplifier responsive to the density detector is automatically calibrated each time the counter starts and in which density and motor current signals are combined for doubles detection. The motor speed is adjusted for document length to provide a predetermined number of counts per minute. An adaptive counterfeit check is made. The motor is deenergized at the end of a batch count and momentarily reenergized to ensure that the last note of the batch is stacked.
