Abstract: Process for smoothing the eye of a needle during maufacture using high power density radiation from a laser to melt the surfaces of the eye area and subsequently permitting the melted surfaces to solidify giving smoother surfacing.

Abstract: A telephone office is provided with a dedicated trunk modified to transmit to subscribers lines connected to the same office the multifrequency tones from an out-going sender used to identify the calling party. Provision is made for connecting a subscriber's line pair to the dedicated trunk on provision across the pair of a special access code of pulsed or dialled digits. The dedicated trunk is designed to provide the necessary signals to cause the out-going sender to perform its functions. A test set is provided for connection to a subscriber's line pair to dial the special access code. The test set first tests for line conditions before dialling. After dialling the test set detects the information in the multi-frequency tones originating with the outgoing sender. At the telephone office an outgoing sender is preferably modified to send, in addition to the number of the calling party, the line location address of his pair of lines. The test set also detects this information.

Abstract: A winding apparatus for winding wire onto bobbins including a support member for first and second bobbins and means for rotating the support about an axis parallel to that of the bobbin for moving the bobbins into alignment with the bobbin shaft, and means for laterally moving the bobbins from the carrier onto the bobbin shaft as well as from the shaft onto the carrier, so that a full bobbin may be removed from the bobbin shaft, the carrier member rotated so as to bring an empty bobbin into alignment with the bobbin shaft and then for moving the empty bobbin onto the bobbin shaft so that it may be wound with wire.

Abstract: A portable universal apparatus for use in pressure testing engine cylinder heads and blocks. Sealing members are placed over all surface openings of an engine cylinder head or block leading to the cooling jacket. Retaining bars are placed over the sealing members and extend longitudinally of the engine part. A plurality of clamping units are attached directly to the engine part and apply pressure to the clamping bars in a direction to effect airtight engagement of the sealing members with the surface openings of the cooling jacket.

Abstract: A visual aid and display device is disclosed in which a central axis has mounted thereon a nest of vanes of varying length which are sheet-like members longer in length than width and concaved toward the central axis and each of which is connected to the axis at both of its ends. The vanes may be any of a number of geometrical shapes and may carry a limitless variety of visual displays on their surfaces.

Abstract: A mine safety inspection indicator including a plurality of rotatable wheels having indicia printed on one side thereof and attached to a panel having windows therein so that the indicia is selectively visible through the windows, and further including slideable indicators whose position is correlated with indicia for giving further information, the wheels and slideable indicators including printing members cooperable with recording paper and a pressure member so as to provide a permanent record of a mine safety inspection; the device also includes a slideable warning panel which may be moved to a position out of view or moved to a visible position for giving a warning of a dangerous condition in a mine.

Abstract: This invention is an attachment for a standard storage battery attachment providing a liquid reservoir which is in communication with the individual cells of the battery for automatically maintaining a predetermined electrolytic level within the individual cells while simultaneously allowing gas buildup to be released. A valve is located between each cell and the reservoir, which valve opens and closes in response to the electrolytic level within the cell to automatically maintain the electrolyte at a predetermined level. The attachment is provided with a cover having one or more openings for adding liquid to the reservoir.

Abstract: The invention is a building structure of material which uses a water-activated binder, such as cement-mortar or concrete, and of a form having one thickness dimension much smaller than the other two dimensions perpendicular thereto. The structure includes a substrate sheet extending along a surface substantially perpendicular to the thickness dimension and a layer of the water activated binder material having a multiplicity of short metal wire reinforcing elements distributed therein.

Abstract: A retaining clip for attachment to a slip sheet used in the stacking and transportation of containers by forklift trucks or the like. A portion of the clip is attached to an edge of the slip sheet tab, and another portion thereof is inserted between, and grippingly engages, adjacent containers on a slip sheet so that the tab of the slip sheet is held up in position to be grasped by the forklift truck.

Abstract: A T-shaped batt of insulation with a U-shaped vapor barrier covering the lower surface of the batt. The vapor barrier, which extends beyond the ends of the batt is used to connect consecutive batts. The T-shaped batts are installed by rolling them between parallel structural members so that the horizontal flange sections of the T-shaped batts overlap atop the structural members.

Abstract: The invention relates to a valve assembly adapted in conjunction with a valve actuator to provide positive control of the stroke of hydraulic cylinders. The valve is attached to a pressure port on the cylinder and the actuator assembly is positioned on the side of the cylinder and held by means of clamps. The stroke of the cylinder is limited when the actuator arm is clamped on the piston shaft at a distance shorter than the full stroke of the cylinder. In this condition as the shaft moves into the cylinder, the actuator arm contacts closure means within the valve thereby closing off the valve and preventing further retraction of the cylinder. The apparatus of the invention is adapted to be supplied in the kit form and can be readily attached, externally to any existing hydraulic actuator.

Abstract: A bogie slide for re-positioning the rear wheels of a tractor trailer unit includes a carriage movably mounted on tracks for movement between stops. The trailer is backed onto the carriage, i.e. the rear wheels of the trailer are positioned on the carriage against a pair of wheel chocks, the pins holding the rear wheel bogies of the trailer are removed, and the trailer is moved with the carriage against one of the stops. As the trailer continues to move rearwardly, the wheels, bogies and carriage remain stationary, so that the wheels and bogie are moved forwardly along the base of the trailer.

Abstract: A device for recovering water from ambient air is disclosed having two chambers in one of which a pressurized air stream is heated and in the other of which another pressurized air stream is cooled after which the two air streams are mixed resulting in condensation of the moisture contained in the air streams which is then collected and put to use.

The instrument rests on the base and is held in a vertical position by the button-shaped top. The peg has a weakened point which will fail if the instrument is subjected to excessive force, thereby protecting the instrument from being damaged. The button-shaped top has specially tapered corners which facilitate placement on and removal from the stand of the instrument.

Abstract: Game apparatus comprising a basketlike target held by a support in spaced relation to the ground, a ball, and a bat having a flat ball-engaging surface for employing the ball towards the target when the ball is thrown into the air and struck thereby. The bat is of one or two piece construction. When made of one piece construction, one end of the tubular piece of material is swaged to form a handle and the other end thereof is flattened to provide a ball-engaging surface. When made of two pieces, an elongated flat piece of material is fixed to a tubular piece of material, a portion of the latter extending beyond the flat piece of material to provide a handle.
