Abstract: A one-piece collet for use in machine tools, which collet comprises a rear portion which is cold worked to provide a bore of smaller diameter than the bore of the central portion of the collet, which reduced bore is threaded. The cold working of the rear portion produces a transitional area between the different sized bores of the rear and central portions which is characterized by a smooth, uniform grain flow, with unbroken flow lines, resulting in increased tensile strength and longer fatigue life of the collet. The front portion of the collet may also be cold worked to provide a similar transitional area between the central portion of the collet and the reduced bore of the front portion of the collet.
Abstract: A support plate for a mine roof including a substantially flat body engageable with the mine roof, the body having an enlarged central opening through which are passed one end of a roof bolt on which is threaded an expansion shell which is inserted into a mine roof opening. Ribs extend longitudinally of the flat body on both sides of the central opening for additional strength. The ribs are spaced a predetermined distance apart on opposite sides of the central opening. Centering members are provided on the body portion intermediate the ribs on opposite sides of the central opening, the centering members and ribs serving to center the washer and bolt portion of the bolt assembly.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for conditioning air in an enclosure wherein the air is passed through a heat exchanger where the air is heated or cooled by a primary gas in the heat exchanger; the primary gas flows through a conditioning power circuit wherein the primary gas is compressed thereby heating the same; the compressed primary gas is then either passed through the heat exchanger to heat the air or is further compressed, cooled and allowed to expand to cool the primary gas which then passes through the heat exchanger to cool the air.
Abstract: A structural element system comprising substantially L-shaped longitudinal elements arranged in multi-level relationship having a horizontally extending base plate portion and an upwardly extending parapet element, and sectional support elements acting as vertical spacers for the longitudinal elements extending perpendicular to the direction of the longitudinal elements, the sectional supports having upper and lower mounting surfaces and adopted for engagement by the base plate portions of the longitudinal elements to provide a wall capable of dividing shearing forces acting on the wall vertically and longitudinally so that the wall stands erect, retaining a slope surface and provides areas for the accommodation of plants, small foliage or the like.
Abstract: A steel cord reinforcement for elastomers and elastomeric articles comprising a steel cord crimped in a zig-zag fashion used in the warp direction of the reinforcing fabric; the crimps of adjacent warped cords lie in phase, and the wave length p of the crimp and the amplitude c of the crimp are related such that 0.02 p.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.0.07 p; to achieve optimal properties of cord elongation and cord deformation, the relationship S=k p.sup.2 wherein 0.7.ltoreq.k.ltoreq.3, and the stiffness S=10.sup.4 N [.SIGMA.(D.sub.i.sup.4 .times.n.sub.i)] wherein D.sub.i represents the diameter of wire filament "i" in the cord, n.sub.i is the number of wires "i" per warp cord, and N is the number of warp cords per mm width of the fabric.
Abstract: A feedstuff supplement comprising urea or a derivative thereof as a source of nutritive nitrogen and a compound selected from the group consisting of orotic acid and derivatives of orotic acid of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, glucosyl or ribosyl, in a minor proportion for increasing the assimilation of urea by herbivorous animals, and a vegetable based feedstuff containing the supplement.

Abstract: A photographic support is produced by heat consolidating paper made wholly of thermoplastic synthetic fibres. The consolidation is carried out in such a way as to produce a homogeneous surface film having a desired surface finish for receiving a photographic coating, a fully bonded but still fibrous layer adjacent the film, and a lightly bonded fibrous layer adjacent the fully bonded fibrous layer. The homogeneous surface film is produced in such a manner that its surface is substantially free of pits. This may be achieved by consolidating the web by heating it on one surface while cooling it on the other surface.
