  • Patent number: 6481797
Abstract: An armchair (10) comprises a support frame (11, 12) to which a base seat (14) and a back (16) are fastened, which elements are movable between a first and a second position through power-driven movement means (21). The base seat (14) is pivotally mounted, at the front, to the support frame according to a first transverse axis (15). The back (16) is pivotally mounted to the base seat, at the rear thereof, according to a second transverse axis (17) for rotation of the back itself. The back (16) has extensions (18) extending downwardly past said second axis (17) and having ends constrained to slide longitudinally of the armchair. In this manner, on rotation of the back about said second axis (17), the base seat rotates in the same way about said first axis (15).

  • Patent number: 6477737
Abstract: A hinge for furniture comprises a bowl (11) adapted to be fastened to a door (12) of a piece of furniture and a wing (13) designed to be fixed to the piece of furniture. The wing has an end (15) which is pivotally mounted to the bowl for rotation relative to the bowl and a spring (17) is received in the bowl, the thrust end (19) of the spring exerting pressure on cam means (20) placed on the wing to move the wing towards a near steady position corresponding to the open or closed hinge position. The spring has a reaction end (21) reacting on the bowl at a rest surface (22) keeping said reaction end (21) oriented in a direction non-parallel to the bowl bottom. Advantageously, the spring reaction end is directed opposite to the bowl bottom and the rest surface (22) is a side wall of the bowl.

  • Patent number: 6456485
Abstract: A generally rigid, plastic housing has therein a pair of chambers, one of which is larger than the other, and each of which opens at one end thereof on the front of the housing and is closed at its opposite end by an integral back wall of the housing which is secured by a pair of plastic bolts to the plane surface of a rather rigid, laminated bus bar. Secured in each of a pair of spaced socket recesses in the housing back wall is a female socket terminal, one of which extends into its associated recess from a conductor in the bus bar, and the other of which is connected to another, male terminal which is housed in the other chamber. Each of the two socket recesses opens on the larger chamber, and the sockets therein are disposed to accommodate a pair of male terminals which project from a circuit breaker releasably housed in the larger chamber. • Patent number: 6409919
Abstract: Two perforated metal sleeves are secured in radially spaced coaxial relation one within the other between a pair of rigid end caps that are releasably secured to opposite ends of a plurality of rods which support the caps removably and sealingly over opposite ends, respectively, of the sleeves. An annular filter cartridge is releasably secured in the radial space between the sleeves with resilient annular end caps on opposite ends of the cartridge disposed in releasable, sealing engagement with the rigid end caps. Fluid that is to be filtered is delivered to the radial space separating two annular filter elements in the filter cartridge. When one or the other of the end caps is removed from the support rods the cartridge can be removed from between the sleeves and replaced without having to destroy the sleeves or the rigid end caps.

  • Patent number: 6409161
Abstract: The housing of a two station machining device has thereon a stationary jaw and two movable jaws reciprocable between open and closed positions relative to the stationary jaw by a pair of spaced slides that are reciprocable in a recess in the housing beneath the work surface. A piston in the recess has one end thereof secured to one of the slides and has its other end slidable sealingly in an axial bore and counterbore in the other slide. Normally the slides and the piston are retained resiliently in first limit positions in which the movable jaws are disposed in their open positions. Hydraulic fluid under pressure is supplied to the bore in the other slide beneath the head of the piston initially to move the piston and the one slide into second limit positions in which the jaw connected to the one slide is moved to its closed position, and then to move the other slide to a second limit position and its associated jaw to be moved to its closed position.

  • Patent number: 6378969
Abstract: A guide for drawers comprises two elongated metal parts, mutually slidable along each other. One of said two parts has a wall conveniently bent to define a raceway (15) with play for a wheel (13) rotatably fastened to the other part. In the raceway (15) a wall region (17) is deformed to define a passage (d) having a predetermined interference for the wheel. A method of manufacturing the guide comprises the steps of bending a wall of a first one of said two parts to define the raceway (15) with play for the wheel (13), inserting a gauged template (21) into a predetermined raceway region, deforming the raceway from the outside against the template to obtain the passage with a predetermined interference for the wheel in the predetermined region (17). Also described is a guide manufacturing machine.

  • Patent number: 6374493
Abstract: A two-piece tire rim is prepared from a molded, one-piece wheel casting which is generally cup-shaped in configuration. The casting, which is open at one end and closed at its opposite end, has an inner annular recess formed coaxially in the inner surface of its closed end, and has formed coaxially in its outer peripheral surface an external annular recess radially spaced from, and in axial registry with an internal annular recess. The casting is separated into two separate sections by cutting through the casting in a circular path extending from the external annular recess to the internal annular recess, thereby producing a generally annular shaped inner rim section, and a generally disc-shaped outer rim section. The two rim sections are then machined to final form, and are secured together to form the desired two-piece tire rim.

  • Patent number: 6362882
Abstract: The reticle of a single magnification reticle projector mechanism of a multiple magnification video inspection apparatus may comprise a liquid crystal display (LCD) module the pixels of which are selectively energized by a conventional plug-in video card that forms part of a CPU. As the magnification setting of the apparatus is changed, the CPU causes a corresponding change in the size and spacing of the pixels that are energized. The energized pixels form clear or transparent dots on the reticle, while the remaining, unenergized pixels cause corresponding areas of the reticle to remain opaque. Alternatively the reticle is provided with a plurality of viewing areas or fields of different size, each area comprising a plurality of spaced openings or transparencies of equal size, and progressively larger fields having progressively larger openings.

  • Patent number: 6360800
Abstract: A circular tire rim has intermediate its ends an annular drop-center section, and coaxially on opposite ends thereof enlarged diameter, circumferential flange sections engageable with the beads of a tubeless tire to support the tire on the rim. Adjacent one end thereof the drop-center section has projecting from its outer peripheral surface a pair of projections angularly spaced 180° from each other about the axis of the rim. Removably secured coaxially on the drop-center section of the rim is an annular runflat device the outer peripheral surface of which normally is radially spaced from the inner peripheral surface of the properly inflated tire on the rim, but engageable by and slidably supporting the inner peripheral surface of the tire when the latter is operated in a runflat mode. The two projections on the drop-center section of the rim seat in registering recesses formed in the inner peripheral surface of the runflat device to prevent any relative movement between the device and the rim.

  • Patent number: 6351928
Abstract: A packaging device is provided with a feed unit for a highly stretchable polyethylene-based plastic film which during use is able to generate and maintain a high number of electric charges on its surface. A vertically movable head having on its lower end a gripping surface with a very smooth, mirror-like gripping surface, is then lowered to have its gripping surface engaged with the leading end of the film which overlies and is supported on a planar supporting surface. The smooth gripping surface of the head adheres cohesively by electrostatic molecular attraction to the film, which is then moved by the head over the upper end of a package containing food, or the like, which is to be covered by the film. The head then descends severing the film from the supply thereof and securing the edge of the film to the edge of the container.
