Abstract: A method for displaying a plurality of windows on a display screen is described. The method includes steps of associating a first window with at least one second window, the at least one second window being independent of and external to the first window, and combining the first window and the at least one second window into a common window on a display screen, the first window and the at least one second window being configured to share a common window frame. An indicator may appear on the display as a target region when a user desires to associate the first and second windows. Subsequent operations performed on the common window are performed automatically on any underlying window. For example, when a user chooses to save the contents of the common window, the contents of all of the windows of the common window may be saved.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide ways to update and permit third-party advertising content of a webpage developed using Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (“AJAX”) techniques. An illustrative method includes registering a set of possible triggering events that can invoke an advertisement-update process, registering advertisement containers (portions of the webpage that can present the advertisements), receiving an indication that a triggering event has occurred, identifying (in some cases) advertisement containers whose advertisement content is to be updated, accessing third-party advertisement data that is stored outside of the domain of the webpage to receive the fresh advertising content, and presenting the fresh advertising content in the one or more advertisement containers.

Abstract: This invention is related to systems and methods of providing sensory ability data from one or more remote locations to a central location. One embodiment of the present invention includes a method comprising the steps of testing the sensory ability of a subject to produce testing data thereof, the testing being administered at one or more remote locations; collecting the testing data in an electronic format; and electronically providing the formatted testing data to the central location from the remote location. After being transferred, the testing data may be analyzed at the central location, and a sensory training plan may be developed for the individual. Further embodiments may automatically collect the testing data, transfer the data from the remote location to the central location, and/or analyze the data at the central location.

Abstract: A freeform selection tool for a computer system with a graphical user interface allows a user to draw a freeform selection path so as to select one or more graphical objects. The user is provided with the freedom to input selection ink, in any orientation, and using any desired selection path size provided by the select tool. The selecting tool may change the visual appearance of any graphical object once selected. The selecting tool provides the ability to select ink or graphical object with a particular property to be used for the selection. The selecting tool can recognize various selection gestures coordinated with a semantic relationship of the ink so that the number of selection ink strokes can be minimized. The selecting tool may change for different selection modes depending on the type of graphical object encountered and change of the context for a particular selection.

Abstract: An on-line approach to coordinating intradepartmental anatomic pathology consultations, including coordinating access to physical case materials and/or electronic case materials, is provided. In accordance with one method in a clinical computing environment, a command to initiate a share event for an anatomic pathology case is received. One or more share recipients are determined manually and/or automatically for the share event. In addition, whether any physical case materials and/or electronic case materials are associated with the anatomic pathology case is determined. If any physical case materials and/or electronic case materials are associated with the anatomic pathology case, share recipient access to the materials is coordinated. After each share recipient reviews the case, the share recipient may enter comments.

Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a system and process that controls a group of networked electronic components using a multimodal integration scheme in which inputs from a speech recognition subsystem, gesture recognition subsystem employing a wireless pointing device and pointing analysis subsystem also employing the pointing device, are combined to determine what component a user wants to control and what control action is desired. In this multimodal integration scheme, the desired action concerning an electronic component is decomposed into a command and a referent pair. The referent can be identified using the pointing device to identify the component by pointing at the component or an object associated with it, by using speech recognition, or both. The command may be specified by pressing a button on the pointing device, by a gesture performed with the pointing device, by a speech recognition event, or by any combination of these inputs.

Abstract: Methods, computer-readable media, and systems for populating an electronic clinical document capable of receiving multiple types of data are provided. In one embodiment, dictation audio input is embedded directly into one or more sections of an electronic clinical document along with other data types, such as structured user input, free-text input, or system-generated input. An electronic clinical document having embedded dictation audio and other data types can receive transcribed text corresponding to the embedded dictation audio.

Abstract: User interfaces are provided that allow for the display of a target element that may be used to adjust a gamma value of a display device. The target element includes three layers. A bottom static layer is alternating light and dark lines, which in one instance may be black and white lines of equal height. A gray static layer is solid gray, and overlays some or all of the bottom static layer. A progressive layer gradually changes from a fully transparent are to an opaque area, and overlays some or all of the gray static layer. Additionally, a manipulation area is provided, which may be a sliding mechanism. The user may adjust the gamma to a higher value when the fully transparent area appears lighter than the opaque area, and may adjust the gamma to a lower value when the fully transparent area appears darker than the opaque area.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and medium are provided for providing a custom view of a set of user-interface elements (UI elements) to a requesting component. The method includes representing the UI elements as a raw tree structure composed of a set of nodes, which correspond to the UI elements; identifying a subset of the nodes that satisfy the condition(s); and communicating to the requesting component a representation of all or some of the identified nodes. The apparatus includes a request-transmission component for submitting to an interface component instructions and a transmission-reception component for receiving from the interface component the information associated with one or more UI elements that satisfy the one or more conditions.

Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for searching multiple search services in parallel and utilizing multiple search providers in a computer system. Multiple search providers are installed onto a browser application of a user computer system. Upon receipt of a user search query and a user designated search provider, an instant answer is automatically displayed without any user interaction. Other aggregated results are displayed together in a combined window pane. One section displays results of any recent searches that match the search query entry. Another section displays search suggestions provided by the designated search provider. Another section displays results of any previously visited sites in which results of the previously visited site match the search entry. Additional searches of different designated search providers can also be made. These multiple searches of multiple search providers are conducted from the same browser window as the initial search.

Abstract: Architecture that facilitates validation of a data mapping of data from a data source to a data target. There is included a signature generation component that generates a source signature of all or a portion of the data source and a target signature of all or a corresponding portion of the data target, and a sampling component that obtains a sample of the source data a corresponding sample of the target data. The data signatures and data samples are compared respectively and processed with a processing component to determine the status of the validation process.

Abstract: Computer-readable media, systems, and methods for model-based data center management. In embodiments, a request to perform a management operation on a device in a data center is received and available paths to the device are determined. The paths are determined based on an artifact storing a topology of the data center. Further, a current favored path that is one of the available paths is determined based on a policy and the device is bound for performance of the management operation using the current favored path. In embodiments, the model-based data center management is configured to provide a generic description of the data center architecture and a generic description for one or more devices in the data center. The generic description provides for dynamic runtime data center configuration.

Abstract: A method for simultaneously displaying a procedure documentation form and pediatric cardiology z-scores for a patient is provided. Documentation data for the patient is received and a database including pediatric cardiology data for a computerized z-score graph appropriate for a patient is accessed. The pediatric cardiology data and documentation data are utilized to calculate one or more z-scores for the patient. The one or more z-scores are displayed on a computerized graph simultaneously with the procedure documentation form.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for providing documents related to a search request. The search request may include a search query of one or more keywords, or the search request may be a demographic search query including one or more demographic attributes. An index containing data crawled from publisher's websites, demographic information of registered users, along with the search history of the registered users can be created. Once a search request is received, the search request can be compared to the information stored in the index, and one or more documents related to the request can be provided.

Abstract: Sharing of search histories is facilitated with a computer based system and method that allow a searcher to share search results generated without prior authentication of an identity with a search engine. Sharing and collaboration are further facilitated by allowing search history items to be shared with a minimum of additional searcher input. Context for the search history items is provided by associating a search query with an accessed document link without requiring separate tagging of the link by the searcher.

Abstract: Systems and methods for manipulating toolbar dimensions are provided. Each toolbar includes a number of toolbar components each having a first and second representation and the toolbar is associated with a reference value. As the toolbar dimensions are adjusted, if the reference value for the toolbar is between a first and second size thresholds, the toolbar is adjusted and displayed relative to the reference value while maintaining the relative position of the toolbar components displaying a first representation to each other. Alternatively, if the reference value for the toolbar is not between the first and second size thresholds, the toolbar is adjusted and displayed relative to the reference value while maintaining the relative position of the toolbar components displaying a second representation to each other.

Abstract: A sanitizing apparatus is provided for automatically sanitizing writing utensils. The sanitizing apparatus transfers disinfectant solution to the writing utensil as the writing utensil is conveyed through a sanitizing chamber on a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt absorbs disinfectant solution when it passes through a basin containing the disinfectant solution and then transfers it to the writing utensil. Once sanitized, the writing utensil is discharged into a retrieval basin where it can be removed by a person wanting to use the writing utensil.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for aggregating schema data from two or more schemas are provided. Embodiments of the present invention include receiving schema definitions for two or more schemas. An aggregated property description for an individual property that is common to the two or more schemas may be created. The aggregated property description includes property attribute values that are the same for the property description in both schemas. Where the attribute values are different, rules may be applied to determine which attribute value to include in the aggregated property description. In one embodiment, the less capable of the two different attribute values is included in the aggregated property description.
