  • Patent number: 5924353
Abstract: A durable oil well pump having fitted ceramic cylinders. Two metal retainers are fitted at two ends of the ceramic liner barrels. A cement or adhesive, which is resistant to pressure and temperature is placed in the annular clearance among the liner barrels, the retainers and an outer tube. There are multiple segmented plunger skirt and ceramic barrels to be fitted around a plunger inner tube. The valve seat outer ring is shrunk on to the ceramic inner ring. The valve ball is also made of ceramic. This pump has resistance to corrosion, temperature and magnetic fields. This pump can prevent liner barrel displacement, increase the period between repair, improve oil production, and reduce the cost of production.

  • Patent number: 5923689
Abstract: This invention is a new type of GaInP/AlGaInP for a visible separate-confinement-heterostructure strained quantum well(SCH-S-QW) laser with passive wave guides in the cladding layers. By using this structure, we can significantly improve the transverse beam divergence with only a slight increase of the threshold current. With proper choice of parameters, the transverse beam divergence as narrow as 18.degree.. FWHM can be achieved while the threshold current only becomes 1.12 factor than the lasers without the passive waveguide structure. This type of structure has three advantages:(1) It increases the spectrum dissolution rate between the laser and its optic element to increase the efficiency in actual operation.(2) Smaller oval ratio makes the light beams appears circular, and avoids the problem of non-paralleled focusing in optical instruments. It also eliminates cumbersome non-paralleled focusing in traditional GaInP/AlGaInP, and is more cost efficient.

  • Patent number: 5919445
Abstract: Green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene was transplanted into baculovirus. The baculovirus was used to infect pests of vegetable crops. Three to five days after infection, the infected insects were found to emit strong fluorescence when exposed to a portable UV light. Therefore the spreading of baculovirus infection and disease progression can be effectively detected in the field. In addition, the GFP reduced UV damage to the baculovirus. As a result, GFP can increase the retention time of the virus as a pesticide in the field.

  • Patent number: 5918702
Abstract: A grease gun device includes a cock body having a piston cylinder and a slot joint. The piston cylinder also includes a seal washer opening and an outlet opening spatially disposed from the seal washer opening. A piston is reciprocatingly engaged in the piston cylinder for moving grease from the slot joint to the outlet opening, wherein a valve mechanism selectively allows grease from the piston cylinder to pass through the outlet opening. A grease supply barrel having a grease opening is engaged with the cock body to supply grease to the piston cylinder, and a sealed piston closes the other end of the grease supply barrel. A jacket is mounted about the grease barrel and connected with the cock body, wherein the diameter of an outermost periphery of the grease barrel is less than an inside diameter of the jacket, such that the grease barrel does not overlap the jacket. A rear cover engages the far end of the jacket.

  • Patent number: 5919430
Abstract: Microporous and mesoporous metal silicates are prepared by the hydrothermal reaction of a silicon and metal source in the presence of a template. The choice of raw materials influences the purity and hence the catalytic activity of the products. A pyrogenic mixed oxide is used as the silicon and metal source. Prepared products have the composition (SiO.sub.2).sub.1-x (A.sub.m O.sub.n).sub.x, where A is Ti, Al, B, V or Zr and x is 0.005 to 0.1. Shaped objects of the microporous and mesoporous metal silicates are obtained directly by using a shaped object of the pyrogenic mixed oxide. The products obtained are used as oxidation catalysts.

  • Patent number: 5918973
Abstract: A head lamp device of a vehicle comprising a passing beam lamp unit, a driving beam lamp unit, and optical fibers connecting them together. A discharge lamp serves as a light source of the passing beam lamp unit. A reflecting mirror disposed ahead of the discharge lamp reflects directly forwardly emitted light from the discharge lamp, and concentrates the light into a condensing portion. The optical fibers guide the light concentrated into the condensing portion to the driving beam lamp unit. The light guided by the optical fibers is used as a light source of the driving beam lamp unit. A shutter mechanism shuts off the light guided by the optical fibers at the time of switching to passing beam, and passes the light guided by the optical fibers at the time of switching to driving beam. The head lamp device using a discharge lamp as a light source completely eliminates the disadvantage of a discharge lamp type head lamp, a very high cost.

  • Patent number: 5913123
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a deep-submicron P-type metal-oxide semiconductor shallow junction utilizes an electron terminal structure with a base covered by a layer containing boron, germanium, and silicon. This layer containing boron, germanium, and silicon ("B--Ge--Si") is used as a shield during ion implanting and as an impurity ion source to form a high diffusion ion concentration at a shallow junction of the semiconductor base or substrate. The B--Ge--Si layer can be thoroughly removed using selective corrosive erosion. Due to the simplicity of this invention's manufacturing process, it can be used for deep-submicron PMOS component production, and thus, it has great practical value.
