  • Patent number: 3955315
Abstract: An article for use as a novelty to provide amusement and interest in the movement of magnets supported therein, which includes an upper magnet suspended by a line from the upper portion of a frame and magnetized so that opposite faces define poles of opposite polarity, and a lower magnet connected by a line to the lower portion of the frame and magnetized so that opposite faces define poles of opposite polarity, which lower magnet is oriented with respect to the upper magnet so that the poles of the upper and lower magnets which are facing each other are of opposite polarity so that the upper and lower magnets attract each other when the lower magnet is positioned proximate to the upper magnet, and which line connecting the lower magnet to the frame is of a length such that the lower magnet is restrained from contacting the upper magnet when the line is fully extended upon positioning the lower magnet proximate to the upper magnet.

  • Patent number: 3952335
Abstract: A laryngeal prosthesis for a post-laryngectomy patient includes a control valve, a fitting, and a conduit operatively communicating the control valve and fitting. The control valve has a housing defining a chamber therewithin. The housing is provided with a tracheal opening adapted to communicate with the patient's trachea through a tracheal fistula, a diversion opening, and a control opening surrounded by an internal seat. A flapper is arranged within the housing to move toward and away from the seat. The fitting includes an inlet opening and an outlet opening adapted to communicate with the patient's hypopharynx through a hypopharyngeal fistula. The conduit communicates the diversion opening with the fitting inlet opening. The prosthesis enables the patient to inhale, exhale and cough through the control opening, and to speak alaryngeally by selectively diverting exhaled air from the tracheal fistula to the hypopharyngeal fistula.

  • Patent number: 3941250
Abstract: A foldable support, adapted to be mounted on a vertical wall, includes an elongated vertical housing, and an arm having an end portion pivotally mounted on a lower portion of the housing and adapted to be selectively moved between a raised position at which the arm is concealed within the housing, and a lowered position at which the arm projects horizontally outwardly therefrom. The housing has a channel-shaped transverse cross-section formed by a pair of transversely-spaced vertical flanges separated by an intermediate vertical web. The pivoted end portion of the arm has a U-shaped cross-section provided with a pair of trunnions which are journalled in a pair of bearing openings provided in the housing. When the arm is moved to the lowered position, an object, such as a clothes hanger, may be hung therefrom.

  • Patent number: 3940725
Abstract: An apparatus for switching an alarm-signalling device which is connectable to a protective circuit so as to signal an alarm when a door or the like is displaced from its closed position in a jamb or the like by an intruder, in which the switching apparatus is mounted in the door and jamb or the like. The switching apparatus includes a switch which is connectable to the protective circuit, which is mounted in a housing which is installable so as to be recessed in the jamb, and a magnet which is magnetized such that opposite faces thereof define poles of opposite polarity, which is mounted in a housing which is installable so as to be recessed in the side of the door and disposed opposite the switch when the door is closed in the jamb.

  • Patent number: 3933650
Abstract: An apparatus for filtering fluids to remove solid discard particles therefrom, in which the apparatus includes a housing having a filter chamber, an inlet-side sealing chamber, and a discharge-side sealing chamber, a movable fluid inlet member which is movable into and out of the housing and which includes inlet-side and discharge-side bearing surfaces, and flexible sealing members which cooperate with the bearing surfaces in the sealing chambers to seal the filter chamber, a movable length of filter medium, and means for displacing the bearing surfaces and the movable length of filter medium, and which is operated by displacing the discharge-side movable bearing surface so that the movable length of filter medium may pass clear thereof, and displacing the movable length of filter medium clear of the discharge-side movable bearing surface to provide synchronized removal of the used length of filter medium from the filter chamber with discard particles associated therewith which are embedded therein and collec
