  • Patent number: 5526651
Abstract: A process and apparatus for open cycle desiccant cooling wherein the process stream and regeneration stream are divided into a plurality of radial stream segments by non-parallel partitions forming unequal face segments in the desiccant wheel and the heat wheel for the same stream segment. The unequal face segments in the desiccant wheel and the heat wheel provide differing temperature profiles at the face of each wheel and allow obtaining desired temperature profiles for heat exchange and moisture adsorption. The process of this invention results in reduction of the radial speed of the heat wheel to less than 4 providing high effectiveness of the heat wheel increasing the capacity and the COP of the system.

  • Patent number: 5527344
Abstract: A method and an implantable apparatus for automatically delivering a defibrillating drug to a patient upon detection of the onset of atrial fibrillation. Atrial activity of a heart is detected and monitored. A delivery time is continuously computed and a delivery signal is emitted as a function of the monitored level of the atrial activity. When the delivery signal is emitted, an infusion pump discharges a defibrillating drug into the bloodstream of the patient. The atrial activity is also continuously monitored for computing a pacing time at which a pacing signal is emitted as a second function of the monitored level of atrial activity. When the pacing signal is emitted a pacer paces the atrium of the heart.

  • Patent number: 5526947
Abstract: A closure for a container, comprising a lower closure part and a screw cap. The lower closure part has a pouring spout and can be connected with a container opening by a base element. The screw cap comprises a cap bottom and a cap shell having an interior thread. The screw cap can be screw-fastened and unfastened from the pouring spout, which is provided with an exterior thread. The screw cap is secured against being unfastened by engaged connections. The screw cap can be released for being unfastened by releasing the engaged connections. A child safety device is provided by a special design of the engaged connections between the screw cap and the lower closure part, so the body of the container is no longer a part of the child safety device and therefore can be optimally adjusted to its specific function.

  • Patent number: 5526561
Abstract: A jaw-like cylindrical tool for producing a strong electromagnetic field for causing a Curie point heater to be energized having a curved cross-section that brings the two edges of the jaw-like structure into contact. Closely spaced conductors lie along the inner surface of the structure transverse to its axis while widely spaced conductors lie transverse to said axis along the outer surface of the structure. The inner surface of the structure has a plurality of axially extending ferrite rods lying immediately adjacent the inner surface conductors. The inner and outer surface conductors are connected so that the currents flow in opposite directions, the outer conductors reducing electromagnetic radiation while the ferrites and inner conductor spacing produce a strong central magnetic field irrespective of the field created by the opposing field produced by the outer conductors.

  • Patent number: 5524821
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a high-pressure fluid jet which preferably draws a material, such as an additive, into the fluid jet. A working pressure of the fluid is increased to generate a high-pressure fluid. The high-pressure fluid is stored within a high-pressure chamber of an accumulator. The stored high-pressure fluid is discharged through a discharge port of the accumulator. The pressure of the high-pressure fluid within the high-pressure chamber is maintained by decreasing the volume of the high-pressure gas chamber as the fluid passes through the discharge port. The high-pressure fluid is then transported into an injection nozzle for forming a high-pressure fluid jet. Within the injection nozzle, a material is combined with the high-pressure fluid jet. The combined fluid and material jet is then discharged from the injection nozzle.

Abstract: A hinge comprising two hinge parts rotatably connected to each other by support walls, on each of which a support arm of a suspension device for a control device or the like is disposed. The hinge axis extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the support arms. Simplified assembly of the hinge and the simple installation of cables or the like is achieved where the hinge parts, which respectively are at right angles to each other, have a support arm fastening wall and a support wall, both of which are provided with a cable passage. The support arm fastening wall and the support wall of one hinge part are connected to each other in one piece by lateral walls which terminate even with the free end of the support arm fastening wall and the free end of the support wall and form an assembly chamber behind the support arm fastening wall and the support wall which is accessible through an opening.

  • Patent number: 5520165
Abstract: A hybrid direct/indirect liquid heater and a process for heating a liquid in which an unheated liquid is introduced into a direct contact chamber of a hybrid direct/indirect liquid heater where it is directly contacted with hot flue gases exhausted from a cyclonic combustor-heat exchanger. The unheated liquid in the direct contact chamber condenses any moisture in the hot flue gases, forming contaminated liquid droplets and the contaminated liquid droplets are introduced into an indirect heating chamber of the hybrid direct/indirect liquid heater where they are indirectly heated by contact with the exterior of the combustor-heat exchanger, forming heated contaminated liquid. Gaseous contaminants are separated from the heated contaminated liquid, forming decontaminated liquid which is accumulated in a hot liquid storage.

  • Patent number: 5513759
Abstract: A rack frame having two front and two rear supports, which can be closed off by means of wall elements, except for the front, and into which structural units can be built. Holders, on which the structural units can be fastened, are attachable to both front supports. Wall elements can be simply attached at arbitrary heights. Structural units with different installation depths can be attached so that they terminate flush with each other either in the front or the rear. This is accomplished by perpendicular longitudinal slots for receiving beveled edges of the wall elements that are formed in the exteriors of the rear supports. The rear supports have fastening strips, which extend spaced apart and parallel to the wall elements. Adjustable U-shaped fastening elements can be attached to the fastening strips, and are used to fix the wall elements.

  • Patent number: 5509542
Abstract: An apparatus for retaining mounted garment hangers or other hook-shaped members on a hanger rod. A housing is mounted with respect to the hanger bar. The housing has a bore within which a pin is slidably mounted. A retaining rod is secured with respect to the pin so that the retaining rod follows sliding movement of the pin with respect to the housing. A bias force urges the pin into a normally open position. A lock member is mounted within another bore within the housing, so that the lock member slides with respect to the housing. The pin and the lock member preferably engage with each other to actuate the pins between an open position and a locked position. In the locked position of the pin, the retaining bar forces the garment hangers or other hook-shaped members against the hanger rod.
