  • Patent number: 5838680
Abstract: An ATM cell switch has a cell multiplexer connected by a shared bus to a cell demultiplexer. In a first aspect of the invention, writing of cell data in the cell multiplexer is staggered to even out current consumption. In a second aspect, the cell multiplexer has input processors enabling it to receive cell data from input ports with different data rates, and the cell demultiplexer has output processors enabling it to send cell data to output ports with different data rates. In a third aspect, the multiplexing sequence on the shared bus is periodically altered to avoid favoring any one input port. In a fourth aspect, test pattern data are placed on the shared bus to monitor bus integrity. In a fifth aspect, the cell demultiplexer is divided into master and slave demultiplexer modules, which are coupled to different, parts of the shared bus.

  • Patent number: 5836540
Abstract: A projectile having a longitudinal axis, a sensor disposed in the substantially pointed front end of the projectile for detecting a respective target, and electronics connected to the output of the sensor for igniting a correction charge to effect a correction of the flight path of the projectile by a predetermined angle (.delta..sub.0). In order to install the apparatus for flight-path correction into the respective projectile completely and in a space-saving manner, so that, unlike in known projectiles, corresponding evaluation and signal-transmission units in the respective weapon carrier can be omitted and complicated gyroscopic systems in the projectile can be omitted, the sensor determines the angle (.delta.) between the longitudinal axis of the projectile and the line (target line) connecting the projectile and the target, and when an angle (.delta..sub.0) is reached that is identical in size/magnitude to the deviation caused by the respective correction charge, the electronics ignite this charge.

  • Patent number: 5838802
Abstract: An apparatus for cancelling vibrations includes a reference signal representative of the vibrations to be cancelled, an adaptive control filter producing an output signal based on the reference signal, and an actuator responsive to the output signal to produce vibrations which destructively interfere with the vibrations to be cancelled. The adaptive control filter comprises a circuit for transforming the reference signal into its frequency components, a processor for applying weights to these frequency components, and another circuit for combining the weighted frequency components to provide the output signal of the adaptive control filter. The circuit for transforming utilizes N integer updates of the reference signal to resolve the reference signal into its frequency components. Further, the circuit for transforming is updated n times between successive transformations of the reference signal into its frequency components, where 1<n<N.

  • Patent number: 5835120
Abstract: Light emitted from an array of light-emitting elements in an electrophotographic printer is transmitted through a birefringent plate that deflects light polarized in a first plane but does not deflect light polarized in a second plane perpendicular to the first plane, and through a polarization switching device that is controlled by an electrical signal so as to selectably transmit light polarized in either the first plane or the second plane. The transmitted light illuminates a photosensitive medium. Each light-emitting element can illuminate two dots on the photosensitive medium, depending on the state of the polarization switching device, thereby doubling the dot resolution.
