  • Patent number: 5462640
Abstract: An etching solution for etching away a metal layer from a substrate includes a hydrogen-containing compound that dissolves the metal layer while developing hydrogen; and a nitrosubstituted organic compound having a nitro group which is easily hydratable and which has at least a 1/3 nitro group equivalent per mole of the hydrogen developed by reaction between the hydrogen-containing compound and the metal layer until the metal layer is dissolved completely. A method for etching employs the etching solution into which the substrate is immersed. The process of preventing the release of hydrogen gas during the etching away of a metal layer from a substrate is taught and includes employing an etching solution containing one of an acid or a highly basic metal hydroxide; and adding to the etching solution an organic nitro compound which is soluble in water and which is easily hydratable.

  • Patent number: 5459914
Abstract: A method of closing the forward portion or region (u) of a cylindrical sleeve body (3) of a practice cartridge (1), wherein a predetermined number of inside and outside radial folds (8, 7, respectively) are created in the forward region (4) of the sleeve body (3) in two work cycles, and wherein circular arc-shaped inside folds (8) of predetermined depth are created during the first work cycle by the application of radial pressure using correspondingly shaped profiling tools. To achieve secure closing of the sleeve body (3) through folding in a simple and cost-effective manner and without predetermined fracture points resulting in the region of the inside folds (8) during closing, the inside folds (8) are created in the forward region of the projectile body (3) during the first work cycle so that a first, central opening having a diameter of at least 2 mm remains between the inside folds (8) after completion of this work cycle.

  • Patent number: 5460709
Abstract: An electrophoresis apparatus for automatically performing medical assays includes an electrophoresis platform which cooperates with a gantry assembly. The electrophoresis platform and the gantry assembly are movable along paths that are perpendicular to each other. An applicator assembly includes pipettes which transfer fluid samples from a specimen tray to an electrophoresis plate mounted on the electrophoresis platform. The electrophoresis platform then moves to a position into the gantry assembly, where electrophoresis is conducted to separate the samples into different fractions. The electrophoresis platform then moves beneath a reagent pouring station where a reagent is applied to make the separated fractions fluoresce under ultraviolet light. The electrophoresis platform is then moved beneath the gantry assembly again, and an air knife in the gantry assembly spreads the reagent.

  • Patent number: 5461523
Abstract: A disc unit includes a control circuit board engaged with a base body of the disc unit, and a shield cover for noise shielding. The shield cover is also used for preventing the separation of mounting tabs extending from the circuit board and the base body by pressing them to hold the circuit board on the base body. Furthermore the shield cover is used as reinforcement for preventing the base body from distorting. With such a structure, the control circuit board is held on the base body by pressure of the shield cover so that multiple fixing members such as screws for fixing the control circuit board can be omitted. Further, since the base body is reinforced by the shield cover, the prevention of distortion of the base body is performed without increasing the thickness of the unit. The disc unit also includes a direct drive motor having a rotor yoke which receives the disc, which rotates a spindle shaft that engages the central opening of the disc.
