  • Patent number: 5832799
Abstract: A device is provided for trimming an edge of printed products which are fed continuously at regular distances to a conveying arrangement. The conveying arrangement includes circulating, pocket-like conveying units that are loaded from above with printed products. The edges of the printed products project at the conveying units so that the edges extend through a cutting arrangement laterally disposed at the conveying arrangement and including a blade. A support arrangement includes a shoulder disposed on a rear side of the printed product relative to the blade. The support arrangement is set back from the projecting edge of the printed product and is disposed opposite the blade during the cutting process. The support arrangement is movable into position at least approximately over a length of a cut by the blade and is driven in the same direction and at the same cadence as the printed products that are fed to the cutting arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5831789
Abstract: A magnetic disc recording and/or reproducing apparatus in which a magnetic disc cassette containing a magnetic disc provided with a center hub is loaded so that the center hub engages with a rotary shaft of a disc rotating motor to rotate the magnetic disc. A cam for displacing a magnetic head is fitted to the outer periphery of a boss supporting a bearing which supports rotatably the rotary shaft, so that the force from the cam can be transmitted to the magnetic head through a bearing utilizing the rotational movement having a high transmission efficiency. As a result, a pulse motor for displacing the magnetic head can be made compact in size and light in weight and the power consumption of the pulse motor can be reduced. The cam is interposed between the level of the magnetic head and the chassis and the rotary shaft of the disc rotating motor is used also as the rotation center for the cam via a bearing mechanism, so that the magnetic head can access any position.

  • Patent number: 5831568
Abstract: A process for the analog/digital conversion of an electric signal as well as a device for implementing the process is described. The process according to the invention provides that the time (T.sub.H, T.sub.L) be determined, which, starting from a voltage (U.sub.X) to be converted is necessary to charge up a RC component (10, 12) to a predetermined reference voltage, for example a switching threshold (S.sub.H, S.sub.L) of a comparator (14) or to discharge it. The device according to the invention provides that a selector switch (13), the comparator (14) as well as a time detector (15) are components of a microprocessor (17), which is wired with the RC component (10, 12) as well as with an input resistor (11) if necessary. The process according to the invention as well as the device according to the invention are particularly easy to realize and are suitable for use especially with a microprocessor (17) which does not have an integrated analog/digital converter.

  • Patent number: 5831204
Abstract: A propellant igniter assembly includes a housing having ignition channels for the passage of an ignition flame through the housing; an igniter part accommodated in the housing; and a booster part accommodated in the housing and frontally adjoining the igniter part. The booster part has a booster charge which includes a first partial booster charge adjoining the igniter part and composed of a readily ignitable substance and a second partial booster charge adjoining the first partial booster charge and being separated thereby from the igniter part. The second partial booster charge entirely obturates all the ignition channels. The second partial booster charge has a burning behavior and a mechanical stability such that the ignition channels remain obturated for a short duration even after ignition of the second partial booster charge, whereby a firing impact is first retained in the booster part and is subsequently abruptly released in a concentrated form through the ignition channels.

  • Patent number: 5827658
Abstract: A method of analyzing an amplified gene, including determining its copy number, involves subtractive hybridization of two cDNA libraries, one from the tissue of interest and the other containing biotinylated cDNA from normal tissue, where the annealed cDNA is removed by means of magnetic beads coated with streptavidin or avidin. The cDNA isolated after subtractive hybridization represents amplified DNA, and it is analyzed to determine what gene(s) were amplified. Furthermore, the copy number of the gene(s) can be estimated. The copy number thus determined can be correlated to the severity of a pathogenic state, to its prognosis, or to treatment efficacy.
