  • Patent number: 4358771
Abstract: A number of planar diplexers which intersect a beam radiated from a primary projector at respectively predetermined angles, which are separated from the projector and from each other, are provided with respectively predetermined conductor patterns. The diplexers are arranged successively in a frame together with the primary projector, whereby various radiation patterns can be formed by different combinations of a number of beams which are reflected respectively by the planar diplexers at respectively predetermined rates. As a result, a power distribution type antenna having a small and simple structure adapted for multipurpose and multifunction applications, particularly for installation on a communication satellite, based on the portability and the ease of assembling thereof, can be realized.

  • Patent number: 4358609
Abstract: A process for the recovery of carboxylic acids from mixtures containing glycol esters derived from these acids. The process comprises reacting these mixtures at boiling with water to form carboxylic acid and entraining the carboxylic acid formed by means of the water by azeotropic distillation, so as to separate off a mixture of carboxylic acid and water. This mixture is subjected to extractive distillation by means of an organic solvent which is insoluble in water and in which water is insoluble. A mixture of water and organic solvent is thereby separated from a solution of carboxylic acid in the organic solvent.

  • Patent number: 4356426
Abstract: The invention concerns thyratrons and in particular thyratrons which are required to be able to conduct protectively in a reverse direction. In order to assist in such reverse conduction an electrode which at such times acts as a cathode e.g. a conventional anode is formed or includes material of low work function such as tungsten impregnated with barium aluminate. Where the electrode in question is a plate anode the disc or plate is itself formed of the low work function material. Where the anode is a so-called hollow anode material of low work function may be introduced within the interior of the hollow anode. Where the anode electrode is in the well known form of an inverted cup material of low work function may be provided as a layer on the surface thereof facing the cathode.

  • Patent number: 4355815
Abstract: A cross-sectionally U-shaped radially inwardly open piston ring for a piston slidably received in a cylinder and dividing the cylinder into a high-pressure side and a low-pressure side. The piston ring includes first and second radially inwardly projecting, circumferentially extending legs for being received in respective grooves of the piston, while straddling a radially outwardly projecting, circumferentially extending web forming part of the piston. That leg which is closer to the high-pressure side than the other leg when the piston ring is in place on the piston, is resiliently deformable in a direction parallel to the axis of the piston in response to pressures prevailing at the high-pressure side, whereby the leg is circumferentially pressed against the web forming part of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4354589
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for grouping flat items in stacks, particularly cookies which are advanced to a grouping device in at least three mutually parallel channels. The grouping device forms mixed groups of the items such that each group contains at least one item taken from each channel. For the purpose of compensating for an undersupply of items in at least one channel, the quantity of items which is normally taken from such an undersupplied channel is decreased by a first quantity and the quantity of items which is normally taken from the other, normally supplied channels is increased by a second quantity such that as the cadenced removal of items from the channels progresses, the number of items in the obtained mixed groups remains constant.

  • Patent number: 4354954
Abstract: Method for solidifying high and medium radioactivity and/or actinide containing aqueous waste concentrates or fine-grained solid wastes suspended in water for final noncontaminating storage. The waste concentrates or suspensions are set, by evaporation, to a water content in the range between 40 and 80 percent by weight, and a solid content whose metal ion and/or metal oxide component lies between 10 and 30 percent by weight of the evaporate being formed. The pH of the evaporate is set to between 5 and 10. The resulting evaporate is then pelletized with the aid of a clay-like substance. The pellets are then heat treated, including drying at temperatures between room temperature and about 150.degree. C., then calcining at room temperatures up to about 800.degree. C. and subsequently firing at temperatures between 800.degree. C. and 1400.degree. C. to form practically undissolvable mineral phases. The pellets are then enclosed on all sides in a dense, continuous ceramic or metallic matrix.

  • Patent number: 4354212
Abstract: A magnetic head and a production method therefore in which permanent magnet films for applying a DC bias magnetic field Hd h to a magnetoresistive effect element film (MR element film) is arranged on both sides of the thickness dimension of the MR element film through at least a non-magnetic film therebetween. In making the MR element film thicker in order to reduce distortion, the DC bias magnetic field Hd b to be applied to the MR element film is also required to be increased. Unlike the prior art in which the above-mentioned requirement is met by increasing the thickness of the permanent magnet film under the thickness of the MR element film resulting in the problem of breakage of a film member above or under the thickness of the permanent magnet film, the invention further comprises a second permanent magnet film above the thickness of the MR element film without increasing the thickness of the first permanent magnet film.

  • Patent number: 4353148
Abstract: An electric pressure switch for use with textile machines and the like has a U-shaped tube filled with a liquid. One of the legs is above the liquid level in communication with a source of variable fluid pressure, for example a fiber feeding chute of a textile machine and this same leg, with the other leg, is provided with two or more vertically spaced detecting arrangements which detect changes in the position of the liquid level which occur as the fluid pressure fluctuates, and such detections are converted into electrical signals which can control various functions, such as the drive for fiber feeding devices or the like.
