  • Patent number: 5457714
Abstract: A delta modulator automatically adjusting the slewing rate is disclosed. In the absence of a transition in the output data of a delta modulator, a parameter used for the integrator of the delta modulator is increased. When the comparator of the modulator indicates that the feedback signal of the modulator has overshot the input signal, the parameter is decreased or reversed until the two signals are approximately equal as signalled by a 50% duty cycle.

  • Patent number: 5457729
Abstract: A communication network signalling system couples a signal transfer point to a plurality of channel banks through links which include link monitor and test units. The link monitor and test units, which monitor the links in a passive, non-obtrusive manner and which at the same time are capable of being serially coupled into the link so as to insert signals in series with the link and to otherwise accomplish in-depth link testing and analysis, each include a pair of channel units coupled to opposite portions of an associated link and which are coupled together through a metallic through connection in the form of a normally unenergized relay. The metallic through connection provided by the relay maintains the signal path through the link during a variety of fault conditions, while at the same time permitting electronic portions of the channel units to be cross-connected to accomplish monitoring and testing functions.

  • Patent number: 5457282
Abstract: An accompaniment apparatus has a first memory for memorizing a plurality of original accompaniment patterns corresponding to various accompaniment styles, each original accompaniment pattern being composed of a set of parallel part patterns. An editor is operated for designating different ones of the original accompaniment patterns and collecting therefrom a set of desired part patterns to define a free accompaniment pattern which is different than the original accompaniment patterns. A second memory memorizes designated and collected results by the editor for use in reproduction of the free accompaniment pattern. During the reproduction, a pattern length difference or a meter difference among the set of the collected parallel part patterns can be corrected to maintain a consistent progression of the automatic free accompaniment.

Abstract: A retainer for securing a nose pad on an eyeglasses frame, the retainer being composed of a flat, one-piece pad arm having a receiving opening in the form of an elongated hole, and a retaining element of plastic secured to the nose pad, the retaining element having a constriction and being receivable in the receiving opening of the pad arm to be locked in the receiving opening by engagement of the constriction in the opening. The pad arm is a bilaterally symmetrical structure having a first end in which the opening is formed, is made of material which extends continuously around the opening and is substantially inelastic around the opening. The opening cross section of the elongated hole is selected and the retaining element is formed such that when the constriction engages in the receiving opening, a transition surface of the retaining element is engageable with the pad arm for allowing the retaining element and the nose pad to be pivotable and tiltable relative to the pad arm.

  • Patent number: 5454662
Abstract: A pipe corral connector consisting of a pair of bolts having corresponding hingedly coupled first ends, and second, threaded ends. The second end of one of the bolts is provided with a right hand thread while the second end of the other bolt is provided with a left hand thread. The threaded ends of the bolts are brought together with a nut that is internally threaded halfway with a right hand thread and halfway with a left hand thread. The nut provides a turnbuckle-like effect in bringing the two bolts together and tightly joining intersecting or parallel pipes of a pipe corral. The connector eliminates all sharp edges which might otherwise injure a corralled horse. The inside surface of the connector bolts may be serrated or notched to provide increased friction at the point of pipe connection. The nut and one of the bolts may be marked to identify matching thread sense to facilitate determination of the correct orientation of the nut.

  • Patent number: 5452614
Abstract: Phase delay, amplitude and the like of sinusoidal strain (stress) are detected with high precision, and also adverse influences caused by expansion, shrinkage, stress relaxation, and creep of a sample are removed by a simple correction term by way of a mathematical method, utilizing Fourier transformation processing. A digital-to-analog converter is used for converting a signal of a detector for detecting sample strain, or displacement of the sample, a memory is connected for storing a digital output signal from the analog-to-digital converter, and a calculator is used for performing a Fourier transformation calculation on the signal values stored in the memory. Complex elastic modulus M* and loss tangent tan .delta. corresponding to the basic physical amount in dynamic viscoelasticity can be obtained with high precision by processing a response signal derived from the sample by Fourier transformation processing. Also, the measuring range of the elastic modulus can be expanded.
