  • Patent number: 4505664
Abstract: A machine particularly useful for the blow molding of large thermoplastic articles such as cylindrical drums comprises a plurality of stations through which mold cavities are successively advanced. At a first station, containing a cart-mounted blow assembly an article is blow molded to substantially its final form in a cavity with the blow medium being introduced via a blow pin assembly operatively associated with the cavity after the blow assembly has been operatively engaged with the blow pin assembly. After the blowing operation has been completed, the blow assembly is operatively disengaged from the blow pin assembly and the cavity with the blown article is transported in a second station, the blow pin assembly traveling with the cavity. At the second station, an auxiliary blow assembly is operatively engaged with the blow pin assembly to circulate medium through the interior of the article.

  • Patent number: 4501947
Abstract: An unbalance correction system is disclosed for balancing a workpiece while it rotates in a conventional balancing machine. Stock removal occurs simultaneously with unbalance measurement. State of balance is continuously monitored while correction proceeds. The trial and error aspect in conventional methods of alternating between measurement and correction operations is eliminated, resulting in a higher precision balance in reduced procedure time. Stock is removed by discharging capacitors across a gap formed between the spinning workpiece and stationary electrodes. The momentary high-current arc melts and vaporizes material during only a portion of a total revolution. The discharge is triggered by a vibration induced signal from the balancing machine when the heavy spot is adjacent the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4496042
Abstract: An improved arrangement for mounting the lift bar of a humper type conveyor in which the lift bar is mounted on the conveyor frame structure by means of support arm structure. The support arm structure is disposed generally parallel to the path of travel of conveyed articles and a mount is provided for mounting one end of the support arm structure on the conveyor frame and another mount for mounting the lift bar on the other end of the support arm structure. The preferred construction for the support arm structure comprises a pair of spaced apart fiberglass elements which are separated at their ends by spacers. An eccentric is disposed to operate through the second-mentioned mount to impart displacement to the lift bar, the fiberglass support arm elements resiliently flexing in the process.

  • Patent number: 4494809
Abstract: A security attachment for an electrical plug is effective to prevent unauthorized use but to readily permit authorized use. It comprises a pair of adapter elements which are mutually plugged together between the electrical plug and a wall receptacle. One adapter is plugged together with the electrical plug and the two are connected together such that they cannot become unplugged if an attempt is made to unplug them. When unauthorized use is to be prevented, the other adapter is removed to expose prongs of the first adapter which prevent the first adapter from being plugged into the wall receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4495394
Abstract: An electronic depth controller is associated with EDM apparatus for controlling the depth of holes which are machined in workpieces by the EDM apparatus. The electronic depth controller comprises its own microprocessor which acts upon selectable input data from a control panel to provide signals relating to hole depth control to the main control system of the EDM apparatus. The electronic depth controller is selectively operable to one or the other or both of two operating modes. Data relating to each mode is input to the system via switches on the control panel.

  • Patent number: 4494258
Abstract: A sofa bed mechanism comprising a foldable bed frame having side and end rails and a back support slat extending between the side rails across the width of the bed frame at a position corresponding to the upper back area of a user in a sleeping position. The back support slat is bowed upwardly in its natural state and moves downwardly under load to yieldably resist the load and exert an outwardly directed force on the side rails. The slat has a top surface of substantial width so that it adds firmness to the bed without interfering with sleeper comfort. The invention further includes legs of semicircular cross section supporting the bed frame on the floor.

  • Patent number: 4493238
Abstract: The combination of a violin bow and a weight mounted on the rod section of the bow so that both the magnitude of the weight and the position of the weight relative to the tip of the bow are adjustable. This structure enables tuning of the bow with respect to its bounce characteristics so that the bow will bounce on the violin strings with a speed and force considered desirable by the artist handling the bow.

  • Patent number: 4489519
Abstract: An edge guard of generally U-shaped cross section for fitting onto an edge comprises an insert having a cross section corresponding to the general U-shaped cross section of the edge guard and non-metallic material encapsulating said insert. The insert is an extrusion, either metal or plastic, and the non-metallic encapsulating material is a plastic, preferably a co-extrusion co-extruded onto the insert. The insert has a sculptured, or fluted, form throughout. Various sculptured forms are disclosed. The non-metallic encapsulating material may be colored as desired to impart a desired color to the edge guard.

  • Patent number: 4483641
Abstract: A waste disposal landfill comprises a layer of porous material such as stone or crushed concrete applied over the waste before the final cover. Conduits extend from the layer through the cover to atmosphere and terminate in self-aligning airscoops. Ventilation through the porous layer occurs in response to ambient winds to remove water from the landfill especially that intercepted and temporarily retained by the porous layer and thus inhibit leachate formation.

  • Patent number: 4480967
Abstract: In a motor-driven pump unit for a high-pressure cleaning apparatus, where the cleaning fluid supplied by the high-pressure pump is conveyed through the housing of the motor so as to cool the motor, in order to improve the cooling characteristics and in order to reduce the dimensions of the motor-driven pump unit it is proposed that a fan wheel, which is driven by the motor and which directs a cooling air stream towards the motor housing, be disposed at the end of the motor opposite the pump, and that the fan wheel and the cooling surfaces of the motor be designed in such a way that an adequate cooling of the motor is achieved by the air stream cooling alone when the pump is not conveying any cleaning fluid to the cleaning apparatus or, in other words, is pumping the cleaning fluid only in circulation.

  • Patent number: 4480388
Abstract: A holder for use in a three-wire measurement of thread pitch diameter comprises a pair of holder elements for holding respective ones of the three wires. The holder elements are generally rectangular in shape and are relatively movable toward and away from each other in a straight line in the direction of the diameter across which the measurement is being taken. The holder elements support measuring wires in parallel planes diametrically on opposite sides of the thread. Each holder element is provided with a central aperture providing access to the wires at their points of contact with the thread so that a micrometer measurement across the three wires is obtained. The pitch diameter is calculated from the micrometer measurement and the diameter of the wires.
