  • Patent number: 8331421
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for a delay-locked loop for closely spaced multipath may include determining a difference signal computed from one or more early energies and one or more late energies associated with one or more channel taps selected from a plurality of channel taps. A fat finger timing may be adjusted based on the difference signal, the fat finger comprising the plurality of channel taps that are spaced contiguously at chip period intervals. The one or more early energies and the one or more late energies may be determined based on an offset of Tc/2 or 3Tc/8, where Tc denotes the chip period interval. The offset may be measured from an energy peak associated with a multipath component that may be associated with the fat finger.

  • Patent number: 8331281
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system are provided for computing link supportability in a WCDMA communications system. For example, the method can be used to calculate link supportability of a transponder in satellite communications system (e.g. MUOS) in a user-to-base direction. This method can include expressing a carrier signal to noise ratio spectral density for a communication link of interest in terms of a transponder input power of the communication link of interest, a spectral overlap factor representative of one or more interfering communication links, and a transponder input power of the one or more interfering communication links. Assumptions and approximations can be made to simplify the spectral density expression in order to reduce a dimensionality of terms used in the computation of the expression. As such, in reducing dimensionality, the expression becomes a manageable computation for WCDMA communication systems to evaluate.

  • Patent number: 8331469
Abstract: In wireless systems, a method and system for pre-equalization in a single weight (SW) single channel (SC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system are provided. A first receive antenna and at least one additional receive antenna may receive a plurality of SC communication signals transmitted from at least two transmit antennas. Estimates of the propagation channels between transmit and receive antennas may be performed concurrently and may be determined from baseband combined channel estimates. Channel weights may be determined to modify the signals received by the additional receive antennas. Pre-equalization weight parameters may be determined to modify subsequent signals transmitted from the transmit antennas. The pre-equalization weight parameters may be based on the propagation channel estimates and may be determined by LMS, RLS, DMI, or by minimizing a cost function. Closed loop transmit diversity may also be supported.

  • Patent number: 8329366
Abstract: A method is described for alignment of a substrate during a double patterning process. A first resist layer containing at least one alignment mark is formed on the substrate. After the first resist layer is developed, a second resist layer is deposited over the first resist layer, leaving a planar top surface (i.e., without topography). By baking the second resist layer appropriately, a symmetric alignment mark is formed in the second resist layer with little or no offset error from the alignment mark in the first resist layer. The symmetry of the alignment mark formed in the second resist can be enhanced by appropriate adjustments of the respective thicknesses of the first and second resist layers, the coating process parameters, and the baking process parameters.
