Abstract: Method and apparatus for computing a noise power estimate in a wideband CDMA (WCDMA) network are disclosed and may include calculating a noise power estimate for a downlink channel based on an orthogonal sequence generated for a transmitted signal. The orthogonal sequence may be generated based on a slot number of the transmitted signal and/or a transmit diversity mode used for the transmitted signal. A portion of a plurality of dedicated physical channel (DPCH) pilot bits for the downlink channel may be summed to generate an in-phase (I) component and a quadrature (Q) component. The generated I component and the generated Q component may be multiplied by the orthogonal sequence to generate at least one noise I component and at least one noise Q component.

Abstract: An active splitter circuit arrangement includes a first amplification module having a number of first input ports and first output ports. The first amplification module is configured to provide first stage amplification to a received input signal and produce from the amplified input signal a number of output signals, each substantially matching the input signal. Also included is a first gain control device having a number of gain input ports respectively coupled to the first output ports and a gain output port coupled to at least one of the first input ports. The first gain control device is configured to control a gain of the first amplification module. Next, a number of second amplification modules corresponding to the number of output signals has a number of second input ports respectively coupled to the first output ports.

Abstract: A high-resolution image device that is used to receive images in a variable depth of field environment may include a color image sensor, a panchromatic image sensor, and a measuring device. The color image sensor may be configured to receive a color image of an object. Similarly, a synchronous panchromatic image may be received by the panchromatic image sensor. To generate a fine spatial color image with higher resolution than the image received by the color image sensor, the image device may be configured to replace a luminance component from the original color image with a luminance component from the panchromatic image. However, due to a spatial difference between apertures of the color and panchromatic image sensors, parallax error may occur due to a perceived shift of the imaged object against a reference background in the color and panchromatic images.

Abstract: Methods and systems for loop-through for multi-band TV tuners and set-top box and/or TV set applications are disclosed and may include generating master and slave output signals from one or more low-noise amplifiers including master and slave stages. The master and slave stages may include parallel-coupled gain paths. Gate terminals and source terminals of input transistors for the master and slave stages may be directly coupled. The input transistors for the master and slave stages may share an inductor coupled to the source terminals and to ground. The master and slave stages may include cascode stages. VHF and UHF signals may be amplified in the multi-band receiver. The generated master output signal may be processed in the multi-band receiver, and may be utilized to generate I and Q output signals. A plurality of the slave output signals may be summed and communicated to a receiver external to the multi-band receiver.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for providing an interoperable communications system including a plurality of otherwise disjunct communication systems each including at least one communications device. The system includes a plurality of system interface controllers each coupled to one of the communication systems and a common network for connecting the communication system and associated communications devices to the common network. A controller is coupled to each of the system interface controllers. The system interface controller being operable in response to commands from an authorized controller wherein the connection between each of the communication systems and the common network is controlled by a controller associated with, and authorized to control each communication system.

Abstract: A method and system for communicating data in an xDSL data retransmission mode is disclosed. A data transmission unit (DTU) is defined. The DTU is sent in an xDSL data stream. A retransmit container is further defined a as a time slot that corresponds to a sent DTU. A copy of the sent DTUs and an index of corresponding retransmit containers is maintained. The DTUs are transmitted the in the xDSL data stream. A determination is made on whether a transmitted DTU was corrupted during transmission. Each corrupted DTU is identified by its corresponding retransmit container. An uncorrupted copy of the DTU is then retransmitted as identified by the corresponding retransmit container.

Abstract: A method for controlling a user station configured for communications with a multiplicity of independently-operated data sources via a non-proprietary network includes steps for providing a user interface to enable a user at the user station to select multiple ones of the multiplicity of independently-operated data object sources to be polled; automatically polling each of the selected data object sources in order to determine availability of desired data at each of the selected data object sources; and automatically transporting desired data determined to be available from each of the selected data object sources to the user station. Software and a user station for implementing the method are also described.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for sorting a set of records in a sort run. As the records are sorted, metadata regarding the sort run is gathered, and subsequently used to determine bounds of two or more disjoint subsets of the sort run. This enables the parallelization of several tasks over the sort run data using efficient, dynamic bounds determination, such as the outputting of sorted data from the disjoint subsets in parallel.

Abstract: A micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) device includes a substrate, a first beam, a second beam, and a third beam. The first beam includes first and second portions separated by an isolation joint. The first and second portions each comprise a semiconductor and a first dielectric layer. An electrically conductive trace is mechanically coupled to the first beam and electrically coupled to the second portion's semiconductor but not the first portion's semiconductor. The second beam includes a second dielectric layer. The profile of each of the first second, and third beams has been formed by a dry etch. A cavity separates a surface of the substrate from the first, second, and third beams. The cavity has been formed by a dry etch. A side wall of each of the first, second, and third beams has substantially no dielectric layer disposed thereon, and the dielectric layer has been removed by a vapor-phase etch.

Abstract: Methods and systems for generating playlists of media items with audio data are disclosed. Based on two received feature sets, media items corresponding to each feature set are identified. Transition characteristics are also received. Based on the identified media items and transition characteristics, a dynamic playlist is generated that transitions from media items having characteristics of the first feature set to media items having characteristics of the second feature set. Each time the playlist is generated, it may include a different set of media items.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to methods of increasing the efficiency of producing a bioproduct. In some embodiments, the method increases the quantity of a bioproduct produced, or decreases bioproduct production time, in a bioreactor cell culture producing the bioproduct, the method comprising, (a) intermittently or continuously analyzing the concentration of one or more nutrients in the bioreactor cell culture; and (b) adding to the bioreactor cell culture additional nutrient media when the concentration of the one or more nutrients is lower than a target value.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates sharing gadgets. The system allows a sender to specify a gadget to share with a recipient and how a set of configuration parameters are to be shared with the recipient. The system further receives an identifier for the recipient. The system also communicates the gadget to the recipient, thereby allowing the recipient to use the gadget in accordance with the configuration parameters.

Steps for creating a secondary enumeration when necessary and utilizing the secondary enumeration to improve query operations by processing enumeration values of the secondary enumeration instead of data represented by the enumeration values are disclosed.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a method for distributed discussion collaboration is provided. The computer-implemented method includes selecting a featured discussion item for each of one or more collaborators based on information associated with each respective collaborator. The method also includes providing selected featured discussion items for display to respective one or more collaborators. The method further includes receiving voting information for the featured discussion items displayed to the respective one or more collaborators. In another embodiment, a system for distributed discussion collaboration includes a selection module configured to select a featured discussion item for each of one or more collaborators based on information associated with each respective collaborator. The system also includes a view controller and a voting module.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for enabling the selective updating of web pages provided to a mobile client using, for example, AJAX technology. The system, method, and computer program product are optionally further extended to harmonize synchronization of data retrieved by other methods with data updated using AJAX. The use of AJAX technology is disclosed within the context of additional technology suites which may be substituted to achieve the same function. Additionally, the use of queuing AJAX updates is discussed.
