Patent number: 5711475Abstract: A container fixant applicator configured to complement target fixing zones of a container. Caulk is introduced into a container, over portions of the container intended to be fixed. The caulk is activated, flowing between the target surfaces. The caulk cures, fixing the container. The wafer substantially retains its configuration during the fixing of the container. The wafer is configured so that it may not pass through the pour spout of a gable top-type container. Methods for producing and applying the container fixant applicator are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1996Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventor: Richard A. Tedford, Jr.

Patent number: 5693373Abstract: A method of improving heat-seals for polyolefin polymers which are coated onto a paperboard substrate. The method obviates the need for use of a curable bonding agent. The materials are exposed to high energy radiation prior to formation of the heat seal to induce crosslinking of the poller and thereby increase the average molecular weight of same.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1996Date of Patent: December 2, 1997Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventor: Joe L. Kinsey, Jr.

Patent number: 5691022Abstract: A release liner based stock for use as a carrier web including a paper substrate having an upper surface and a lower surface. A release agent is coating on the top of the upper surface. The unique soap-based acrylic layer discourages curling of the base stock release liner, fiber pick-off contamination from the uncoated side of the paper substrate, and maintains a consistent peel off force required for removing a label from the release liner and deploying it on a target object.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1996Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventor: Gary H. Patent number: 5532298Abstract: A degradable agricultural ground cover which is composed of high density polyethylene polymer fiber and cellulose pulp which is 100% photo and biodegradable for use in weed control and moisture retention in soil. The unique agricultural mat or cover lasts 8-12 weeks before serious photo and biodegradability occurs, while allowing crop plants sufficient time to mature and produce. The sheet totally disappears with plowing and tilling, becoming a soil extender until complete degradation occurs.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1995Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: International PaperInventors: Stephen H. Patent number: 5481965Abstract: A rack and screen assembly for converting gas grilles into charcoal and/or wood burning stations. The assembly is fabricated from high temperature stainless steel, so that the assembly, when heated to its cooking temperature, retains such elevated temperature for an extended period of time. The rack includes an open frame with runner legs at its lower end, that sit atop the cylindrical tubes of conventional gas grilles. Braces extend transversely across the open frame to reinforce same, and ledges are defined at the upper ends of the open frame. The perforated metal screen is inserted into the upper end of the frame until the screen rests upon the ledges. When the screen is damaged, or wears out, the damaged screen is lifted out of the frame and replaced, manually, in a simple fashion and without resort to manual tools.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1995Date of Patent: January 9, 1996Assignee: Natural Grilling & Fuel Systems, Inc.Inventor: Leonard Kronman

Patent number: 5439707Abstract: Coating formulations, unique methods for their production and use, which have high drying capacity, maintain high levels of brightness, even after the application of a wax coating onto the printed substrate. Precipitated amorphous silicates, titanium dioxide, and other fillers are combined and coated onto heavyweight linerboard to facilitate ink drying and minimize brightness loss associated with wax dipped cartons.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1994Date of Patent: August 8, 1995Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventors: Leo M. Nelli, Eitan Avni, Lori Slovik, Kevin Ellis

Patent number: 5409537Abstract: This invention embodies the process and apparatus for applying a fluorocarbon coating or film to a metal or other material surface of a substrate, and particularly for applying such coating to the hull of a ship, or to other objects to be submerged in fresh or saltwater, to protect their surfaces from corrosion, and/or from fouling by marine organisms, and to improve the aqueous slip of a vessel during the period the object will be exposed to either aqueous, atmospheric, or other environments; and to protect virtually any substrate surface from virtually any environmental or man-made hazard. This process utilizes a laser that generates an infrared laser beam, such as, but not limited to a carbon derived gas type laser, to assist in the preparation for and attachment of a film or coating to a prepared substrate surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1993Date of Patent: April 25, 1995Assignee: Dunfries Investments, Ltd.Inventors: Mark P. Poullos, Edmund M. Williams

Patent number: 5287685Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for harvesting seed which includes a frame and a housing defining a seed box and having a rotary brush mounted on a forward portion thereof which is connected to link bars which are in turn connected to the frame. Corresponding pairs of link bars are attached between the frame and housing on opposite sides of the apparatus, the link bars on each side being substantially parallel to each other. Means are provided for varying the angle of the link bars to the frame, the link bars operationally functioning as a parallelogram to raise or lower the housing at a constant angle relative to the frame. A draw bar is pivotably connected to the front of the frame and tilt angle adjustment means are provided to vary the angle between the frame and the draw bar thereby providing an independent means for varying the angle of attack of the rotary brush to the plants from which seed is being collected.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1992Date of Patent: February 22, 1994Assignee: Hoechst Canada Inc.Inventor: John P. Morgan

Patent number: 5052138Abstract: Several embodiments of ammunition supply indicating systems for firearms are disclosed. Each system (1) counts, either automatically or manually, the number of rounds in a magazine introduced into the firearm, (2) detects the movement of a reciprocally movable slide in the firearm to increment a count of "one" for the round entering the firing chamber, and (3) electronically combines the two digits, and (4) displays same on a display panel. The display panel is situated in a thin housing secured to the firearm along the line of sight of the user. A running total of the number of rounds remaining in the firearm is visible to the user. Slide movement may be detected by magnetic, mechanical, optical, or electrical devices, while the number of rounds remaining in the magazine may be monitored by position switches operated by the follower within the magazine.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1989Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Inventor: Philip Crain

Patent number: 5002833Abstract: A dual ovenable paperboard based structure which contains a food contact resin layer. The resin layer in direct contact with the ovenable food product exhibits superior food release properties, grease and oil resistance, and resistance to warpage even after extended periods of time following oven heating. The unique laminate is formed via coextrusion coating techniques on conventional coextrusion equipment at conventional temperatures. The resulting product has a high degree of adhesion between the paperboard and the polymethylpentene food contact layer, and is capable of being utilized for forming pressed or locked corner food trays which can be subjected to oven cooking temperatures.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1990Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventors: Joe L.
