Abstract: Compounds are disclosed of the general formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a group of the formula IIR.sub.3 --X-- IIwherein R.sub.3 is alkyl; phenyl; phenyl substituted with halogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy, lower alkoxy, or phenoxy; phenyl-lower alkyl in which the phenyl group may be substituted with halogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy, lower alkoxy, or phenoxy; phenyl-lower alkenyl in which the phenyl group may be substituted with halogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy, lower alkoxy or phenoxy; and X is oxygen or sulfur; or R.sub.1 is a group of the formula III ##STR2## wherein R.sub.4 has the same meaning as R.sub.3 as defined above; or R.sub.4 is a group of the formula IV ##STR3## wherein R.sub.7 has the same meaning as R.sub.3 as defined above; or R.sub.7 is an aromatic 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring containing one or two heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur; and wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are the same or different and each represent hydrogen or have the same meaning as R.

Abstract: In the method disclosed, cloth to be faded is brought into dry contact with pumice granules that are impregnated with a chemical bleaching agent such as a hypochlorite; the action takes place in a conventional process machine, the drum of which is rotated for a preset duration.

Abstract: A mannequin for the display of clothing is disclosed. Mannequin comprises a body portion and a means on the body portion, such as a hook, for suspending a garment hanger on the mannequin. The suspending means is positioned on the mannequin such that when the hanger, together with the garment to be displayed, is suspended on the mannequin, the mannequin appears to be wearing the garment.

Abstract: An air deodorizer, and a method for deodorizing rooms therewith, utilizing an aerosol of a solution containing from 2-25% by weight of non-toxic, non-oxidizing, deodorizing agent, said solution constituting liquid droplets having a weight average droplet size of less than 50 microns, more than 90% of said droplets having a size, by count, of less than 10 microns.

Abstract: An encoder (500) encodes a TTL type of R,G,B,I video drive signal into a common multilevel grey scale digitally encoded composite video signal which is transmitted over a single coaxial cable (302). The incoming R,G,B,I bits, such as provided from a color computer (304, 306, 308, 310), are buffered and translated (50a, 50b) from TTL to ECL and fed to a common video digital-to-analog converter (100) along with translated composite sync information (312, 314, 10, 324). A white reference level signal is dynamically derived from the translated sync information (200, 202) and provided to the full height input of the video D/A converter (324, 100) which converts the translated R,G,B,I input into a 16 level multibit grey scale code in a linear function from full intensity white to black, with a seventeenth level being provided in the digitally encoded composite video signal to represent sync information.

Abstract: A new process for preparing a pyrone-3-carboxamide compound of the formula (IV): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is aryl or heterocyclic group optionally substituted, R.sub.2 is alkyl, aralkyl or like group, comprising reacting a compound of the formula (I) or (I'): ##STR2## wherein R.sub.3 is dialkylamino group and n is 0 to 6, and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as above,with a compound of the formula (II): ##STR3## wherein R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are hydrogen atom, alkyl or like group, or reacting a compound of the formula (III): ##STR4## wherein R.sub.6 is alkyl, aryl or like group, and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as above,with a compound of the formula (II) or diketene in the presence of a tertiary organic base.

Abstract: A decoder apparatus (200) provides an R,G,B,I video drive signal in a TTL type of format from a received composite video input signal which comprises sync information and displayable information, such as conventional black and white video or a digitally encoded color video signal comprising a sixteen level code for providing sixteen possible color combinations of R,G,B, and I, without loss of bandwidth. The decoder (200) includes means for receiving the composite video input signal (202,10) and restoring it into separate DC restored sync (20a, 20b) and black and white or color video display information (30, 40, 50), both of which may be displayed on the same RGB monitor (107). White reference level signals are dynamically provided from the sampled video information and are used by a flash converter (100) in converting grey scale digitally encoded color video information into the TTL format R,G,B,I type of video signal (60, 70, 80a, 80b, 82a, 82b, 82c) which recovers the origianl R,G,B,I color signal.

Abstract: Apparatus capable of measuring either changes in the refractive index, or, if desired, the absolute refractive index, of a gas is provided which comprises a differential plane mirror interferometer to produce a pair of measurement beams and a pair of reference beams; and a gas-tight refractive index cell means (78) comprised, most preferably, of a window (70) affixed to the end of a cylindrical tube (73) closest to the interferometer and a mirror (75) affixed to the other end of the tube (73), the cell (78) being aligned to the interferometer so that the reference beams pass inside of the tube (73) in a sealed volume and the measurement beams pass outside of the tube (73), such as in ambient air, for the measurement of changes in the refractive index of the gas surrounding the gas-tight cell (78).

Abstract: An interferometric profiler capable of accurately measuring the topography of a surface under test (48) employs a laser source (10), with the surface under test (48) ultimately being imaged onto the photosensitive elements (58) of a solid state array camera (56) by an objective lens (34). In accomplishing this, the input beam (12) is transformed by a lens (14) into a spherically converging wavefront (16) which is focused onto a rotating diffuser disk (18) to significantly reduce the spatial coherence of the resultant spherically diverging wavefront (22) which is transformed by a lens (26) into a spherically converging wavefront (28) which is totally reflected by a polarizing beamsplitter (30) to produce a diverging wavefront (32). This wavefront (32) is transformed into a collimated wavefront (36) by the lens (34) and enters a quarter-wave phase retardation plate (38) which has an antireflection coating on this surface (40) with the other surface (42) being a flat reference surface.

Abstract: The multichannel loudspeaker enclosure of the invention comprises an inner part which is realized taking into account only the mechanical and electroacoustical performance of the sound reproduction elements and which consists of a metal framework defining one cell per channel, with a single module being arranged in each cell an being elastically attached to said framework, each module being suspended in its cell by means of two cables in such manner that said module can move like a pendulum in the direction of the axis of the loudspeaker contained in said module.

Abstract: A universal fuel quantity indicator apparatus (100,102) includes a digital fuel quantity indicator (100) having an internal microprocessor control unit (104) and a removably connectable digital calibration trim unit interface (102) which enables the fuel quantity indicator (100) to be reconfigured for different fuel tanks by varying selectable fuel tank parameters, such as constants associated with a fuel quantity determination based on calculations of capacitance of a tank capacitor array (110) and a compensator capacitor (112).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a driving apparatus for the optical systems of a photocopier comprising 1st and 2nd optical systems, 1st and 2nd wires stretched out facing with each other through the wire-fixed ends of the 1st optical system, moving pulleys of the 2nd optical system, fixed pulleys of both systems and a common wire drum for both wires. The common wire drum has two wire drum bodies with a shallow and smooth dented portion, and a screw for pressing and fixing the approximate center of the wires against the bottom surface and/or side surface of the dented portion.

Abstract: A thin film EL device having a double-insulated structure and comprising an emitting layer made of an alkaline-earth sulfide as its host material and doped with Eu.sup.2+ for providing luminescent centers. The emitting layer has a Eu concentration of 0.15 to 0.75 atm. % and a controlled thickness of at least 1.3 .mu.m to impart hysteresis to the brightness vs. applied voltage characteristics of the device.

Abstract: A process for concentrating gold and/or uranium minerals by rendering the nonmagnetic minerals magnetic or weakly magnetic by causing a coating to form on the surfaces of the minerals. The gold and/or uranium are concentrated by use of a gravity-magnetic separator or a suitable high intensity magnetic separator.

Abstract: A process for preparing trichloromelamine starting from chlorine and melamine, with intermediate formation of an aqueous suspension of hexachloromelamine, characterized in that hexachloromelamine is solubilized by addition of a water-immiscible solvent, the aqueous phase is separated and the hexachloromelamine solution is brought into contact, in the presence of an activator, with a number of melamine moles which is equal to or lower than the number of moles of the remaining hexachloromelamine.

Abstract: A modular trowel assembly (10) comprises a resilient substantially planar blade member (12) and a handle member (14) slidably mountable thereon. The blade member (12) contains an aperture (16) defined by a pair of spaced apart longitudinally extending integral resilient tangs (20, 22). The handle member (14) slidably receives the tangs (20, 22) therein in slots which serve to resiliently bias the tang (20, 22) when it is inserted for rigidly securing the mounted handle (14) to the blade (12) in the complete assembly (10). The blade member aperature (16) further comprises an integral resilient locking tab (30) disposed at each end for cooperating in permanently securing the mounted handle (14) to the blade 12, with the mounted handle (14) in cooperation with the resilient tangs (20, 22) reinforcing the rigidity of the blade (12) in the assembly (10).

Abstract: Novel pyridinecarboxamide compounds having the general formula (I) ##STR1## or salts thereof wherein R is alkoxy group, aralkyloxy group or a group of --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --R.sub.1 wherein n is an integer from 1 to 3 and R.sub.1 is hydroxy group, lower alkoxy group, mercapto group, lower alkylthio group, amino group, di-lower alkylamino group, C.sub.3-11 alkyl group, lower alkenyl group, lower alkynyl group, cycloalkyl group, 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group, or aryl group substituted by one or two substituents of halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 bond at the 3,4 or 5 position of benzene ring and are, the same or different, hydrogen atom, halogen atom, cyano group, nitro group, amino group, lower alkyl group, halogenated lower alkyl group, hydroxy group, lower alkoxy group, aryloxy group, carboxy group or lower alkoxycarbonyl group, which possess plant growth inhibitory activities and also antiinflammatory activity.
