  • Patent number: 7877305
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, a server system stores a plurality of textual scripts in a database server in association with a plurality of contractor actions. Each of the textual scripts comprises an alert notifying the contractor of an obligation to perform the associated contractor action. The server system generates a plurality of deadlines by which the contractor is required to perform the contractor actions, and provides a user interface that allows a user to submit a plurality of notices of completion for the contractor actions. If a particular notice of completion is not submitted by the deadline for the contractor action, the server system selects the textual script associated with the contractor action, converts the textual script to a voice message, and initiates transmission of the voice message to the contractor via a telephone network.

  • Patent number: 7854789
Abstract: A system and method for controlling pollutant emissions in a cement manufacturing facility. The system comprises first and second particulate control devices in series and a sorbent supply provided downstream of the first particulate control device. Exhaust process gas from the pyroprocessing unit of the cement manufacturing facility is conveyed through the first particulate control device in order to remove at least a portion of the kiln dust within the exhaust process gas to form a de-dusted exhaust process gas. The kiln dust removed from the exhaust process gas may then be recycled back to the pyroprocessing unit for use in the kiln feed. The sorbent supply injects a sorbent for capturing pollutants into the de-dusted exhaust process gas upstream of the second particulate control device to form a treated gas. The spent sorbent containing the captured pollutants is removed from the treated gas within the second particulate control device to form a cleansed exhaust process gas.

  • Patent number: 7837910
Abstract: A method of forming a hardened skin on a surface of a molded article. In an exemplary method, a formable material is mixed with a blowing agent to form a foam material. The foam material is placed in a flow molding apparatus such that the top surface of the foam material is in contact with the top mold of the apparatus and the bottom surface of the foam material is in contact with the bottom mold of the apparatus. In operation, an alternating dielectric field is applied across the foam material to form the molded article. At the end of the molding cycle, the bottom surface of the foam material remains under the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent so as to form a hardened skin on the molded article.

  • Patent number: 7807403
Abstract: A method for determining whether a microorganism produces an AmpC ?-lactamase is disclosed in which a culture of a microorganism suspected of producing a ?-lactamase that inactivates a ?-lactam-containing antibiotic is admixed with an effective amount of each of i) a ?-lactam-containing antibiotic, ii) a ?-lactamase inhibitor to which AmpC ?-lactamase is resistant, and iii) a permeabilizing agent for the microorganism present in a non-growth-inhibiting microorganism-permeabilizing amount to form an assay culture. That assay culture in maintained under appropriate culture conditions and for a time period sufficient to determine the interaction of the microorganism with the AmpC ?-lactamase resistant inhibitor and antibacterial compound, and thereby determine the presence of an AmpC ?-lactamase, wherein a positive test indicates the presence of an AmpC ?-lactamase.

  • Patent number: 7795450
Abstract: This invention provides a class of therapeutic compounds and methods for the treatment of mammals with physiological disorders, such as for example a frequently occurring type of essential hypertension, which are critically associated with the decreased binding of magnesium to the plasma membranes of their cells. These methods consist of administering to a mammal in need of such treatment a compound selected from a series of disubstituted trans, trans 1,3-butadienes, 1,3-disubstituted perhydrobutadienes, 1,2-disubstituted trans ethylenes and 1,2 disubstituted ethanes and disubstituted propanes, each of which embodies, in common, the unique structural feature essential for the biological activity of these compounds. This invention also provides for pharmaceutical formulations that employ these novel compounds.
