  • Patent number: 7247221
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sputter deposition in which both a pulsed DC power supply and an RF power supply apply power to the target in the sputter deposition equipment. The pulsed DC power supply provides an on cycle where power is applied to the target, and an off cycle, in which a reverse polarity is applied to the target. The application of the reverse polarity has the effect of removing any charge that may have built up on the surface of the target. This reduces the likelihood of arcing occurring on the surface of the target, which can degrade the quality of the film being deposited on the substrate. By applying RF power simultaneously with the pulsed DC power to the target, the ionization efficiency on the target surface is increased. This results in a greater amount of material being removed from the target surface more quickly.

  • Patent number: 7181993
Abstract: A rotating cutting apparatus comprising a cutting blade holder with at least one hole on the outside diameter of the cutting blade holder into which cutting blades are inserted and bonded to the cutting blade holder. The cutting blade holder encloses a center hole, so that the rotating cutting apparatus can be mounted to a drive shaft of machinery or secured to a cup that can be mounted to the drive shaft of machinery and driven by the machinery. The cutting blade holder can be made of a less expensive material, with only the cutting blade being made of higher-grade materials that maintains its cutting edge well. Additionally, in some arrangements of the present invention, the cutting blade may be sharpened on two sides so that the rotating cutting apparatus can be used for longer periods of time.

  • Patent number: 7178699
Abstract: The present invention provides a faucet for tapping a liquid stored under pressure of a gas in a container that has less moving parts subject to wear or breakage, and has a housing made of multiple parts which can be disassembled so the faucet mechanism can be easily cleaned, repaired, or replaced. The faucet mechanism contains a piece of flexible tubing and an arrangement of a pinch valve mechanism that compresses the flexible tubing to shut off flow of liquid through the tubing. In one arrangement of the present invention, since the housing does not move and does not come in contact with the beverage being poured the housing is made of a non-metallic material, such as a plastic or petroleum-based material, which is less expensive than the previous brass or stainless steel housing.

  • Patent number: 7165696
Abstract: A stay-on-tab container closure suitable for use on beverage cans and the like, said closure including an center panel with an downwardly displaceable tear panel, which, in one aspect, has a smooth upper surface having no visually perceptible contour features, and which, in another aspect, has low-relief contour features on its upper surface. Closures according to the invention have reduced stresses across the score defining the tear panel, thereby reducing the likelihood of stress-induced fatigue cracking which can lead to score failure when the container closure is joined to a can body and the resulting can is internally pressurized.

  • Patent number: 7154931
Abstract: A chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL) comprises an oxygen generator and a nozzle for accelerating generated oxygen to a high or supersonic velocity. A laser cavity is coupled to the nozzle, wherein the accelerated fluid, with injected iodine, is employed as a laser gain medium. A Brayton cycle outlet pump employs the accelerated oxygen and iodine as a component of a process fluid in a Brayton cycle to raise the static pressure of the accelerated fluid to ambient conditions. The Brayton cycle pump comprises a compressor having an inlet and an outlet, the inlet being coupled to the laser cavity to receive and compress accelerated oxygen. A combustor is coupled to the outlet of the compressor to receive compressed oxygen and ignite and combust it A turbine is coupled to the outlet of the combustor to expand the ignited and combusted gas, wherein the turbine powers the compressor. Multiple reheat stages may be used and regeneration and intercooling may also be used.

  • Patent number: 7140448
Abstract: The present invention addresses this need in the art by providing a cutter insert comprising a plug section and a cutter pedestal. The cutter insert is preferably formed of tungsten carbide, except for two exterior surfaces covered with PDC. The plug section may be circular or oval in cross section perpendicular to the axis of the insert. The plug section and the pedestal each defines a shoulder which is coated with a PDC layer. In this way, two cutting surfaces are applied to the formation, enhancing the cutting ability of the insert.

  • Patent number: 7134545
Abstract: In the meat processing industry, maintaining a clean and efficient environment can be important. Over the years, modular conveyor belts have become a commonplace component of meat processing operations. To provide an efficient and long lasting conveyor system, sprocket driven modules are provided with improved configurations which result in improved belt tracking and reduce incidents of mechanical failure. Specifically, these improvements include a conveyor module having a central drive bar having alternating crest pairs and troughs along its top, connected by shoulders that enable improved driving and tracking while being structurally strong and easy to clean.

  • Patent number: 7117618
Abstract: An excavating machine, representatively a tracked excavator has a boom stick portion on which both an excavating bucket and a hydraulic breaker are mounted for hydraulically driven pivotal movement between first and second limit positions. The bucket may be operated independently of the breaker for digging operations. Similarly, the breaker may be operated independently of the bucket for refusal material-breaking operations. The same excavating machine may now use the bucket and breaker in a rapid and continuous exchange to permit frequent removal of small quantities of broken refuse material with the bucket, exposing the bucket and breaker to fresh refuse material. A lubricatable attachment system is disclosed for improved breaker system connectivity that permits quick installation and removal of the breaker. An alternative deployment system is disclosed having a rotary actuator for efficient and rapid deployment without the need for an additional hydraulic cylinder.

  • Patent number: 7116696
Abstract: An improved singlet delta oxygen generator (SOG) and method of its use are disclosed. The improved SOG is compact and scalable, capable of operating in a zero-gravity or low gravity environment, requires no gaseous diluent or buffer gas, and is capable of operating at pressures as high as one atmosphere. The improved SOG also efficiently utilizes the reactants and produces a O2(1?) stream that is largely free of chlorine and water vapor contamination and therefore does not require a BHP regeneration system or a water vapor trap. When used as part of a COIL system, the SOG may be part of a plenum that directly feeds the laser's nozzle. The close proximity of the SOG to the laser cavity allows operation of the SOG at higher pressures without significant depletion of available O2(1?) through collisional deactivation.

  • Patent number: 7114584
Abstract: A hollow auger head assembly for penetrating geological formations that utilizes drill bit assemblies to which both blades and finger bits are attached. The method of securing the individual drill bit assemblies to the auger head reduces incidents of the drill bit assembly becoming detached from the auger head during drilling operations. Additionally, a rust-resistant attachment mechanism is used attach the drill bit assemblies to the auger head, which makes the drill bit assemblies easier to remove and replace. The configuration and arrangement of the bits improves cutting efficiency, increases wear life and reduces the likelihood of the bits breaking during operation.
